And you think he was training full tilt with stitches in place? Seriously?

The talk that "clubs are desperate for Kp's was raised when defending the Thursfield pricing, mcguanes trade value, and even why Cleve Hughes would get us a pick

The reality is clubs do pay a premium for KP's, but they pay unders for risk

He played 17 games in 2010, then 5, then 2, then 5, then 8, and now 4

This has risk written all over it
Since 2010 Astbury has played:
18, 10, 11, 14, 9 & 9* games in the AFL/VFL combined, so while he has been in and out of the AFL side he has still played a reasonable amount of footy for someone who has had 2 rather serious knee injuries. Having said that, I'm of the opinion that if we did move him on we wouldn't be landing someone like James Aish/Steve Motlop/Chris Yarran/Lewis Jetta for him not without something like our second round pick being thrown in on top. A KPD like Astbury whose knees have both been the result of no contact will have clubs extremely wary of picking him up.

If we were going to trade him to the Lions I wouldn't mind us asking about Mitch Golby as the player to swap for him. Now Golby isn't exactly a star but he is a serviceable player who would fill a role if called upon. For those not aware of Golby:

24 years old at seasons end, played 56 career games.

Career averages per game:
16.7 disposals
4.3 marks
2.9 tackles
Career 73.4% disposal efficiency
2.4 R50s
2.3 1% acts
1.4 I50s

IMO he could help us with moving Vlastuin into the midfield by taking a spot on half back and adding some more run to the back 6. In fact I'd go as far as to say that he is the perfect Hartley recruit i.e. undervalued promising type with potential.

Don't disagree with much of that, put it only increases is playing time from 25% of afl to 50% of vfl/afl

I think anyone arguing injuries won't lower his value (not you btw) is kidding themselves

I'm not sure i want Vlassy out of the back 6 anytime soon. Killing it back there.
Agree been very good in the back line, but in the midfield he'd give us a harder edge around the packs and his bigger body would be helpful in taking some heat off of Cotchin & Miles

I see the potential benefit, but I'm not sure we wouldn't be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

What is max gawns contract status?
We still desperately need another ruckman.
Yes Hampson played well last week but we need continues improvement.
We need to target an under 25yo ruckman
Out of contract this year, would be a great pickup if we could get him
He'd want a #1 ruck spot though

Comparing trading of draft picks from year to year is irrelevant.
It all depends on whether the team rates the draft.
Yes we traded a 2nd round pick for Hampson but could of we drafted a better player at that pick?
That's what the clubs weigh up
Before Friday I would have said we could have thrown darts at a dartboard and come up with something better than Hammer in the 2nd round. :D

Or Rohan Bewick?

What about Daniel Currie at NM? He can't get a look in with Goldstein dominating.
26 years old, 2.00m, 97kgs. Hasn't had much of a go, worth sounding out?

Until, that means it wasn't complete

Issues like falling on a fence post or slipping in the shower are random, but they all impact on preseasons and the ability for the body to be conditioned

Doesn't matter it was caused by a stinger, it was yet another major injury his already battered body has had to cope and recover from

THAT is why no one will pay for his potential, just like they didn't for Thursfield, or McGuane, or Post, and so on
It was recovery from a nab cup game where he got stung he git through the vast majority of the preseason and cant get back into the firm backline of the comp.
