Future picks involved.
Weller & Freo's 2nd rnd(next year)
for
Both our 1st rnds(2015,16)
Whoa ease up turbo. 2 first round picks for a guy who hasn't played AFL level yet and a likely late second round pick. Nooohohohoho thank you. Straight swap for our first rounder should be enough considering the circumstances.

Nope, this years first all that is required. He was pick 13 last year and we should have a pick very close to that and his value hasn't increased (decreased if anything).

So say Carlton finish last this year and trade their first pick next year to the Suns for Ablett (know this wouldn't happen but just for argument's sake). The next 2 years they finish last so the Suns can't access the picks, but the third year they finish 1st and have Pick 18. Does that mean the Blues end up trading Pick 18 for Ablett?
Yes but GC probably wouldn't agree to protection on the picks.

The info I know is solid, because its the same person who has given me all of my info at the club.

Whether it works out for Richmond or not (i.e whether Freo are interested in dealing this early) is a seperate issue, but I can guarantee its in the works at the club.

I know it sounds as if Im having a bet each way, but Ive been a contributer on this 'rival' board for a while now and hopefully I have enough credits in the bank so that you all don't run me out of town :)
Yeah I wasn't sceptical on your info or source as such, more looking at it from a Richmond/Freo perspective and how they view the young talent in the draft this year/how deep into talks they are as you said.

Keep it up, love your work around these parts :thumbsu:

You are our boy don't worry.

Wonder if this is part of the reason we are one of the clubs apparently pushing hard for the introduction of future draft picks, to be able to get Weller and still go after a Treloar/Motlop

Yeah first rounder is enough. For A proven player sure but not a WAFL player. :p

No one would give us that deal for C.Ellis who was taken a pick earlier and played decent afl footy. Maybe if we pretended it was for Brandon and did a switcheroo at the last minute. :D

Problem is with a future pick it would be difficult to predict pick 35 for a future draft.
That pick 35 is for this year, not for a future year. Its hard enough for this year to predict things, we generally know how deep a draft is. That is also a consideration, for the second 1st rounder as well.

The post said future 2nd. Personally I just wouldn't do it. 1st rounder is plenty for a kid who hasn't played. Our pick will be roughly what Freo paid last year. If they reject then try again next year.

Better, but still unnecessary I reckon. I know he's contracted but that means jack all these days. If he requested a trade to us, our first would get it done no problem.
It all comes down to how re rate him, and what deal we can do. We would only go on 2 1st's if we can either get another pick/player back ie crozier/Hannath etc or its an out and out gun ie Sheil. Either way im sure the club has it figured out.

My mistake I took it for this year. The I agree its too far out to figure out, but I did hear its a bumper draft next year.

If passed I imagine that future picks will mostly be for the following year, with the odd exception of a club trading a pick a couple of years away from being active. Just too risky to bet with uncertainty both regarding how the team will look in 24-36 months and how a draft will look.

Will also be interesting to see how aggressive teams are. Like NBA teams have little care for future picks as outside the top 5 players there is little guarantee of finding a very good player, whilst second rounders mean absolutely nothing and are no certainties of receiving a contract whereas in the AFL a pick in the 30's is still a pretty good slot.

Teams are going to have to be very careful. Personally wouldn't want to see Richmond trade future top picks unless we were trying to contend like we are now. Doing it from a Carlton/Druggendon position could end in massive tears. Especially if you overrate yourself like the druggies. :D

I s'pose, unless there's some sort of reverse protection. But yeah, the Suns wouldn't agree to protection in that case.

Too much.

At most, our two first rounders for Weller and Crozier.

For sure if they accept a first. I wouldn't be upgrading a pick next year roughly 20 places for him though. I'd happily upgrade later picks with them this year if they finish a few spots above us. But that's about it.

My source told me some Tiger related 'behind the scenes' list management news tonight involving a target they are actively pursuing ... but its so unbelievable that I don't want to go too early with it just yet! I'll get some confirmation tomorrow to back it up!

Watch this space! (Sorry not trying to come across as a tease!)
If it's Bootsma I'm gunna go full Jake King on your board

Some good reading to wake up to. Thanks for the info C4.
I really wanted Weller at our club purely for the reason he wanted to be here as hes a massive Tigers fan. Something about recruiting our own really pleases me as I just feel in a good environment they will always recommit for unders.

With the prices being thrown around for Treloar I almost prefer Weller, sure he doesn't have the runs on the board but at a cheaper wage and lower trade value it allows us to target another very good player.

If next seasons draft picks come into play an off season of Weller and Motlop is far better than Treloar on his own.
