Chaplin is a very solid key back. He provides an elite, yes elite, intercept game and has very tidy skills to go with it. We don't need him to be a gorilla defender considering we have Rance, Astbury and and Batchelor available to do a lock down role. His leadership is extremely valuable down back too.

We need more depth in the midfield and an X factor forward.
Go after Elliot and Danger.

Is Danger not already an X factor up forward?

Now I know Danger is a midfielder by trade but if he were to come here then how often would our three midfielders around the ball consist of Danger, Martin and Cotch. Rarely would be my guess and most likely one would always be up forward therefore less need for an Elliot. Make no mistake Elliot is a big upgrade on what we currently have but for how much he would cost in terms of assets then I think we could use them more wisely if we landed Danger.

So essentially what i'm saying is Danger and Shiel would be a lot better use of assets then Danger and Elliot.

Batch is shorter than Chappy and not that I think Chappy is a key position player I think he's a great third tall up. I just hope they don't play Batch at Fullback when he goes back to the reserves .

Batch can play on most opposition's third tall. Batch is about 190 cm so there isn't much of a disadvantage with his height. Can't see why he'd go back to the reserves. He plays his role well and spreads quickly on counter-attack.

Elliot is a bona-fide, x-factor forward. Something we don't have at Richmond and are in desperate need of considering the shambles our forward line are in at the moment. Danger's ability as a forward is simply another aspect which makes him one of the premium midfielders of the competition. He provides further depth to our midfield, and gives us another rotation up forward. Regardless of how many times those three players would be around the ball, having Danger means that we'll have quality footballers around the ball for longer periods of time.

There is no way we could land both Shiel and Dangerfield. A) We are not aggressive enough. B) They would cost us an arm and a leg and would probably ruin us in five years. Elliot fills a desperate need and wouldn't cost as much as Shiel. We have greater depth in our midfield then our forward line. Bringing in two A grade midfielders, whilst would be nice, is not as tactical as bringing in an A grade forward and an A grade midfielder.

You might be right about us not being aggressive enough, although maybe we have kept our powder dry for an assault like this. Our interest in both players is well-documented.

Other than that, I disagree. I'd love to have Elliott, but would far prefer the other two.

I don't see it ruining us. Danger would cost the combined salaries of Newman, Foley and whoever we trade with our first pick for Shiel.

That's a top-10 player in the league and an absolute gun young mid. Trade our second pick for Crozier if we can, for the small forward. Otherwise, draft a couple more to add to Butler, Short and Drummond.

We need to do something big. Danger plus Shiel would be quantum. That's what we should be aiming for.

Love to get Elliot but he wont leave the pies. As to Danger, I would prefer Shiel to be honest but **** it, why not both :p

We need a big midfielder to replace Jackson.
All of the in-form midfielders so far this season are talls: Fyfe, Mundy, Bontempelli, Cripps, Pendlebury, JPK, Mundy, Vandenberg.
I don't think Lennon (190cm) or McIntosh (192cm) will dominate contested possessions. Are there any tall midfielders at other clubs that can't get a run?

You say a lot of shit that makes me cringe, but I've got to admit this idea of yours you've been hammering home has me interested. He would be an absolute beast of a ball winner. The only problem is, we'd be screwed sideways down back with Astbury and Chaplin holding the KP posts. The only way this could work is if Elton becomes a gun KPD or we recruit another.

I agree but not even Sydney has been able to lure 2 big names in 1 year.

I can see us possibly landing Shiel which would be awesome.

Big $, 1st round pick and Vickery.

If by some amazing chance we happen to get both I'd forgive the club for all the fu*kups of the last 30 years.

Let me dream for a minute....

Midfield of Cotchin, Dangerfield, Shiel, Martin, Conca, Eliis x 2, Vlaustin, Miles, Maric.

Deledio, Edwards & Roo permanent forwards. Griff CHF, Martin and Dangerfield to spend time forward.

Rance FB, Astbury CHB.

Wings - McIntosh, Lennon.

Bit role players/flankers - Houli, Grigg, Hunt, Grimes

That's a pretty good 22, need a good small defender but I had better stop dreaming.

Alex played a bit in the mid on the wing for WA, didn't have the skill set to do it at AFL level in his first years and looked like a massive draft turd. Not to say he might be better at it now.

Brisbane got Beams and Christensen this year. Not quite the same, but close. Hawthorn got Burgoyne and Gibson in 2009. In 2013, GWS got Mumford and Shaw, and Carlton got Daisy and Docherty.

It can be done. What have we been saving up for?

Exactly and what do you do if there is a chance that Rance doesn't sign ? Get games into the guy that will take his spot while Chappy is there as a third tall to help him and give him experience .

In his early years Rance wanted to be a mid. If we don't start improving id bring in elton for a run and give alex a few games on ball. Not sure he would have the time and vision but who knows. Hes come along way since being drafted and if elton can come on could be a win

The prospect of Rance being Chaplin and Elton being Rance has been around for a while this year. If it was to happen, Chaplin would become depth, we won't need a long term contract any longer and a temporary salary savings.

If Rance shoots thru, we will need Chaplin to wingman a CHB...we have 2 inhouse potentials...Elton and Griffiths. Any genuine KPD replacement will have to be FA...they don't get bartered out

If Rance stays, it's his job ultimately to run the backline and be the wingman for the others.

Had a think about the Rance situation last night. And I'm going to agree with Rusty...play him in the middle...unless he wants to play next year.

Seems he is playing for either the RFC or GOD next year. He is not doing a Chip Frawley and filling time, you can see he loves playing for us. But if he is going...

Then we can't go get anyone until the end of the year to replace him...no point developing a backline with him..so go stick Elton there, Chaplin mentor him...and let Rance run around the ground doing his thing.
