Wouldn't surprise that we were into him but wouldn't take much from what the carlton board says because they would like to think we will take their players for inflated prices due to our history with them. Similar to ours and Adelaide's trade history but the opposite way around. Although you never know one of their members may have an inside source but unlikely.

Lennon and Menadue are outside, McIntosh and Ellis should develop into better inside players but are no bulls at this stage, Martin plays more of an outside role as a receiver and Vlastuin is stuck in the backline. Looks good on paper but it's not really a big tall tough midfield when you compare it to say Freo
Point was we were actually pretty decent size wise. Martin needs to go back to an inside gun. Vlastuin will come out of tbe backline soon enough. Our list isnt in a bad spit just needs some fine tuning.

What history with them? The only trades I can recall with them are:

Pick 32 for Hampson (they won)
Andy Collins for Shaun Grigg (we won)

Port have a history of bending us over in player movements, but Carlton don't.

My point is that we aren't big where it counts (;)) which is around the contest, where we are relying on Cotch/Miles/Conca/Edwards etc who are all medium/small mids. They come up against Fyfe/Mundy/Barlow and they can get bullied around a bit. Vlastuin will help in that regard, and I totally agree that Dusty needs to go back to being an inside machine, for his attitude more than anything, make him go earn his kicks not get given them.

I agree the list isn't in a bad place but think we still haven't replaced Tuck and Jacko as big inside mids, no coincidence that cotch was playing elite footy when these two were in the middle giving him a bit of support

We lost both deals sadly IMO Barry
Grigg has cost us developing kids and he's really a pea heart for the coin he's on
Should have been delisted years ago bc he will never play in a flag for us due to his effort attitude and commitment

Just on your last paragraph I completely agree. Whats your opinion on targeting selwood from wce via fa? I think hed help ease the load on cotch and he would be valuable for his leadership qualities too

The point was that the club wouldn't, a disgruntled player is far worse than a sook. That's why no club has ever matched a restricted free agency offer and trade players who request trade around 75% of the time. Gws were never going to keep boyd and dogs were never going to keep griffin. This is all hypothetical at the moment anyway.
True but there is plenty of eg's where players requests trades, but return and stay at the club.

If your talking about the Nth game on the wing. Happened right in front of me (virtually). Rance didn't take the ball. Not sure if the replay shows it as I haven't watched it. The Nth player put the ball into Rances hands, but I think the Umpire was screened off from it. Very clever(sneaky) by the Nth player.....
Rance definitely slapped the ball out of his hands. Just foolish.

I rate Selwood, if we could get him via FA and get Shiel via a trade, then add Dusty and Vlas as inside players, our midfield suddenly looks pretty potent

Shiel- 1st round pick (5-7?)
Yarran- Vickery and 2-3 round pick
Selwood- FA

B: Castagna, Astbury, Batchelor
HB: Houli, Rance, Yarran
C: B.Ellis, Selwood, McIntosh
HF: Deledio, Griffiths, C.Ellis
F: Martin, Reiwoldt, Edwards
R: Maric, Cotchin, Shiel
I: Miles, Vlastuin, Lennon, Conca

He's an alright footballer, which is exactly the type we have picked up over the last few years. Don't want us to bring anyone in unless they clearly improve our best 22
No team is ever made entirely of stars, you need your fair share of grunts who do the heavy lifting. Watching the Saints, Weller is that grunts type who does the things to allow Stevens & Armitage to shine. One of the big issues with us at the moment is that we don't have a grunt like that because Jackson left. As a result we're using Cotchin & Martin to fill both roles, grunt work on the inside and then asking them to also do the hard running on the outside.

say we're lucky enough to finish 8th
that = 11,29,47,65,83 draft picks
S.Selwood - via FA
Trade Vickery to Brisbane for ~ #20
Trade Conca + #20 to West Coast for ~ #8 [note:WC will have another 1st round pick for Selwood's departure anyway]
Trade #11 + #47 for to Melbourne for J.Howe + ~ #23 [similar to Trengove deal last year]
Trade #29 + #65 to Hawthorn for J.Anderson + ~ #35
= 8,23,35,83 [3 picks in top 35! 83 will be Castagna upgrade]
$1.5 million split between Selwood, Howe, Anderson should allow us to resign Rance, Dusty n Co. next year.
Out: Vickery, Conca, Petterd, Thomas, Arnot, Dea (re-rookie), Newman (ret), Foley (ret)
In: Selwood, Howe, Anderson, #8, #23, #35, Castagna

If only it was this easy!!!

All sounds great. But...this will mean we will rely on cotch and dusty to become the A graders they're threatening to be...id love Howe or henderson (as our swingman) selwood as our junkyard dog. But then i still think we need an A Grader (sloan danger shiel whe). Getting an A grader will allow lids cotch titch or dusty to play more time fwd eleviating the small fwd problem but not weakening the midfield

I will always prefer a taller bigger mid over smaller but the idea that they are essential is way overstated.

Hawks have one mid 187+ Langford

Sydney have one mid 187+ Kennedy

Port have two Wines and Ebert.

Roos have one Ziebell

Cats have two Duncan and Stevie J... Maybe Bartel at a pinch. You could say bilcavs too but he is a freak.

We have deledio, grigg, Macintosh, dusty and eventually Lennon. Probably a bigger key is playing them as inside mids more often not pushing them out to flanks like dimma has

Not a fan of this to be honest.

With all of that trading we do not bring in one A grader and it only furthers our issues of being a middle tier side. We either need to make a decision to add quality early to mid 20 players now or bottom out a bit again.

Vickery to Brisbane for pick 20 - Not sure we will get a pick 20 for Vickery. If we did I would run with it.

Conca and 20 to WC for 8 - To be honest I would prefer to keep Conca and pick 20 than just get pick 8. Conca cost us pick 6 and although he has been inconsistent this has mainly been due to injuries. Would much prefer to back this kid in as he is one of our more important mids. His best footy I think justified his draft selection he just needs a consistent run to show it. He hasn't had a decent run of games since twanging his hammy in the elimination final

Howe Trade - Don't rate Howe much as a footballer. He takes a great hanger but he is hardly worth a pick downgrade. Just brings in another average footballer that clogs our development.

Anderson - Don't think he is that good. Think he looks good at Hawthorn but who doesn't. Would prefer to keep pick 35.

Selwood as a FA isn't bad. Again another Vanilla type but decent enough. Would be trying for Dangerfield first or even Luenburger/Kruezer if they pass medicals.

If we lose Rance my strategy would be throw caution to the wind. That would free up 700-800k plus our war chest. Plus cleaning out fringe players who would be taking up more cap room than they should: Newman, Petterd, Knights, Dea, Hampson ect. Get the Shiel trade done and then give Danger more money than he can refuse. Finally make a splash on this competition.

Dangerfireld, Cotchin, Shiel, Martin, Deledio, Brandon Ellis, Edwards, Conca, Vlaustin, Corey Ellis

COME AT US BRO!
