Acres.Officially my boy. So pumped about this kid. Pretty much Fyfe with better disposals. Clunks marks, impacts the contest, doesnt have any major weaknesses and is a nice size. Many say top 5 if it weren't for injuries.

Think overall we have done exceptionally well in the draft, especially getting Blake Acres at 19. IMO reckon he could turn out to be an absolute star. Now all we need to do is give him number 27, from one Blake to another Blake.

Snoop: Pick 15 (Sydney)
Cotters: Pick 11 (West Coast)
Chris25: Pick 7 (Brisbane)

how many of our WA boys want to return home. black and cripps are the only ones i can think. black was a drop kick so ditto. cripps had his own personal reasons as well apparently, not to mention the dodginess the eagles pulled back then

he'll be fine i reckon

Heath Black suffered from depression. A condition he discovered much later in life. :thumbsu:

I'm wrapt we got acres! From everything I'd seen and read I thought we were only a slight chance of getting him at 18. Damn that's a great pickup imo. All the attributes of a gun tall midfielder and def willing to punt injury wise!

I hate other teams!

I loved the little discussion at our table when our pick 19 was called. I imagine they were all over Billy Hartung, then couldn't believe their luck when Acres was still available, and thus chose him instead!

I swear I saw Pelchan smile a little when it came to our picks, knowing Acres was there. I reckon they tripped out a bit whether to chose him first over Dunstan, there was a bit of a Pause. They then took 10 seconds for pick 19 but the convo was very quick! Acres it is.

"We were very surprised he got through. We anticipated one of the West Australian clubs would select Blake. He has had an injured shoulder this year and didn't play all the games in the championships but we think he's the prototype of the modern-day AFL footballer. Blake is 190cm, he's got both speed and endurance and so for us to have a player who can come in and play a number of positions – in a similar mould to Brendon Goddard – I think complemented our three selections nicely. Ideally, we'll have him play between half-back and half-forward, through the midfield." - Chris Pelchen
I was concerned when we came to this pick and had to discuss it. Damn I was thinking, did somebody else pick the guy we wanted. Maybe it was the other way around, we did not expect him to be free and needed to discuss if we should alter our pick.

I think they were just taking a moment to discuss how good they are and who's buying the first round of beers after the draft.

So Freo chose a beanpole from Victoria instead of a more highly rated midfielder from WA?

Did anyone watch the broadcast ... was it just Lyon at Freo's table?
I'm in shock at what freo did. That curve ball from GWS really shocked them IMO. Didn't recover

You could see RL's influence in the draft. They were plugging holes instead of selecting best available. They were taking a tall forward (and ruck option) no matter what.

From all the rumours we'd gone cold on Hartung. I reckon we had another mid or two in mind but Acres being there took us by surprise. He was probably top 10-15 on our rankings.
