He's been impressive the last coupla weeks. He, Colyer and Conca are always going to be the Whipping Boy Crew when they play poorly - the onus on them is to not!! Every team needs different role players to be successful. Even Richmond don't have 22 Harley Bennells running around with audacious skill and limitless flair!! You need a balance and Acres is finding consistency in his role as each week rolls out. I hope he continues on as I do the others. As players return from injury, competition for spots ramps up and that's a good thing for your squad - everyone has to perform strongly to retain their place.

I've been happy with him the last few weeks but he's gotta back it up. Back himself in! Right now, compared to B.Hill he's proving the better outcome of that part of the trade. Keep it going Blake! 😉

Agree that he is currently performing better than Hill but they both are playing in a position that relies on others to perform well. Colyer the same. Conca has kept some very good small/medium forwards under control this year. Prior to being our preferred, and most successful, small lock down defender he was given credit by Fyfe for his importance at stoppages during his last Brownlow season.

Many on here watch a game and see the things that reinforce their already entrenched opinions, but at the moment those three are looking like our best options for their positions.

Anyone got any idea what Acres did to earn the fine? It's a Misconduct charge, which means its outside of the acceptable "unacceptables" such as whacking a 19 year old in the guts with your elbow. Did he insult someone's aunty or something?

I'm guessing it is for his dangerous tackle, can't recall correctly when in the game it was but deserves it for not realising the ball had left the players hands and he had won the free already, was very unnecessary.

Called the ump an ignoramus. Apparently.

I think that would be Rough Conduct. Umpire abuse seems more likely, though he's never looked to me the type to get in the face of an umpire.

I have to say I didn’t actually agree with the fine for the whack. The umpire missed the free kick, but you don’t make up for that with a fine.

I agree. He was about to get someone HTB. Nicholls blew the whistle then after he slung the bloke it was paid the Adelaide players way.

People are quick to forget that after he came back from the Geelong horror show, he was in our top 5 players to end last year. The issue is not whether he can play, it's whether he can be consistent. We still don't really know.

Normally I would agree but did you see Hill in the game this week. God it was embarrassing for him.

You realise that this is what he does?

He'll drag you back in with some above mediocre performances and then spud it up after a few weeks.

He did this all the time for the Aints. Why do you think they were so frustrated with him?

We'll worry about that when it happens.

When? That's been his whole career, INCLUDING AT FREMANTLE!
Ha ha
He has been good the last couple of weeks. The problem with guys that play this well at times is that the coaching staff start thinking "We know what he can do" and keep playing him when he starts to become grossly inconsistent. When it happens regularly, drop them I say. So they know that those sort of wild swings in form are not acceptable.I won't hold my breadth though.

Conca should not be in the “whipping boy” list. Very underrated player, obviously his body of work is flying under a lot of people’s radar.

Acres is improving, but needs to do it consistently.

Agree completely. Conca is essential, one of the top lock-down defenders in the comp. Plus now he's stopped trying to do too much outside of giving it to one of the better distributors around him, I no longer get the heebee jeebees when he's in possession

He's taken at least one kick-out this year though. I'm all like, why?

Strange, if that's the case, as dangerous tackle normally leads to a Rough Conduct charge:

3. Rough Conduct (Dangerous Tackles)
The application of a tackle may be considered Rough Conduct which is unreasonable in the circumstances.

Misconduct charges are laid against "unsportsmanlike" acts:

Misconduct has a wide meaning and generally is any conduct which would be reasonably regarded as unacceptable or unsportsmanlike or where it had the effect or potential to prejudice the reputation of any person, club or the AFL or to bring the game of football into disrepute

E.g. Mundy was charged with Misconduct (pushing Robbie Gray in the path of an umpire) in 2019.

There's no qualifying description of the Acres charge in the MRO statement, though, other than that it was against Paul Seedsman, so not umpire abuse either. Was the dangerous tackle against Seedsman?

Ok. Must of been something different l thought it was Rowe who got tackled but could be wrong...?

To be honest I think he is a solid contributor in freos best 22....

Saying that, he had 3 solid games at the end of 2020 getting 22, 24 and 23 disposals.

He has been solid in the last 2 weeks....

The bloke is a B-grade midfielder. You expect him to average 20 disposals a game. He will have games where he will be average and get 15 or so disposals. there will be other games where he will get 25 odd disposals and 2 or 3 goals.

I have posted this about him before. I hope he gets back to his 2017 form at the saints at the worst. He got 366 disposals from 18 games or 20 disposals a game. He then had 30 disposal games vs West coast and North. Saints won both games.

I would love to see him produce a 30 disposal game and win off the back off it this season. It would be good.

Saying that......I dont care if he produces a 12 disposal game one week then he has 2 or 3 20-25 disposal games in a row and freo wins.

I would think most teams where the wing is getting 30 disposals are going to walk away winners.
