Re: Blake Bray (rookie)

You need to lay off Blake.. It only takes a few words with him to work out how timid this kid is. Young, new state, shy and under pressure from people expecting too much from him. He's not even eligible to play this year so he's got time to settle in without all the ridiculous pressure. Look at the size difference between him and Mitchell.. He's probably intimidated (even I'm mildly intimidated standing next to Mitchell :p) training with grown men opposed to the last lot he was training with.

Re: Blake Bray (rookie)

I'm not taking a pot shot, but I'd be surprised if he was retained for next year, he just doesn't seem to have the ability. It's going on limited viewing, but I don't see why Kooley should get shot down for posting such an opinion.

Of course he might just take a bit more time, but for now he reminds me of a Tiller with less tricks.

Re: Blake Bray (rookie)

Well I was kinda impressed with the couple of things he done during the game... basically on the wing where I was sitting...

Took a good mark on the wing and disposed of it good... then a few minutes later, got free, received the ball and delivered to Walker deep inside 50 which resulted into a goal...

He also got the wind knocked out of him by joseph of the ball...

I see something there

I agree with this, I saw something.

He is a good size, obviously needs to put on a lot of weight but his frame is good for the role he plays. His first kick was an absolute shocker and his style is flawed with his high ball drop so he needs to work on that.

There is something there but he needs time and at this stage he isn't really taking a spot in the list so we can at least give him this year.

He's a scholarship player who's not even eligible to play until next year?! The club obviously know a lot about him and believe he'll develop into a good player. What happened to all the people saying how much longer KPF's take to develop. And he's being written off a couple of months into his career?! Get a grip!

Haven't you heard? If a scholarship player has a poor training session in the first few months after moving to a new state & new environment, he's finished.

That's just the way it goes, I guess. Bray, a scholarship holder, moved here from NSW and was over-awed in the first couple of months at Carlton. He's finished.

Which is why I posted BB25's photograph.

Bray looks like he will fill out.

Intra club match reports from another site said Bray moves well and has a low centre of gravity.

Worst pick 78 in the rookie draft ever.

A good start didn't save Josh Donaldson.

Re: Blake Bray (rookie)

He certainly moved well, it's his disposal that I am worried about that should improve with time. His a prospect, so give him time.

Didn't see this sort of outcry when Donaldson got the chop! :p

No one is saying he's finished before he has even started, just casually mentioning that from our personal observations he seems a bit below scratch.

I still can't fathom why expressing any sort of negativity is taboo on this forum. Neither Kooley or myself were scathing.

Re: Blake Bray (rookie)

I saw him in the city with Joseph maybe a month ago, he is an interesting size and looked to be putting on a bit of mass.
Going to be good to see how he goes next year.

Re: 2011 Player Review - BF wants you!

#48-Blake Bray

A Little bit about Blake
Four years ago Carlton spotted Blake Bray’s potential and signed him to an AFL-funded scholarship. At the end of last year he was named as Carlton’s NSW Scholarship rookie and was picked up with the club’s fifth selection and pick 78 overall. He was unavailable for senior selection in 2011 but trained with the Club on a full-time basis and played for the Northern Bullants. His Bio on the AFL website described Blake as a tall forward who can take a good grab. He has immense power and speed for someone of his build.

Season 2011 for Blake
Blake played a total of 10 games throughout season 2011. He played 9 games in the VFL reserves kicking 9 goals and he played one game for the VFL seniors in which he kicked a goal. He can take a mark in the forward line and has the pace to push up the ground a bit. He showed some promising signs for the future. Blake spent the mid part of the season on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in late May.

Where to from here?
Blake is a shy kid who moved interstate at the end of last year at the age of 18. He is quite skinny so will need to spend some time in the gym bulking up. His 2011 season was a sneak preview for fans. If he continues to bulk up and work on his game he could be a real long term prospect for us. As we all know KPP players take time and that is exactly what we he needs. Blake needs time to get his body right, develop his game further and gain confidence in his ability.
Keep working hard Blake. All the best for 2012.
