I don't think you could ever forgive a club for dropping you on the eve of a Granny, then the team wins by a record margin.. If he enters the PSD he takes the risk of never playing in a GF at all... IMO he'll stay unless he can get to a team in or around the 2007 top 8:thumbsdown:

If blakey goes, it shows the character of the man. The individual is never bigger then the club. Blakey get on with it, chin up, come back bigger and better, and prove to the selceter why you should be there.:thumbsu:

Graham got drop last year after playing the whole year I think or only missed 1 or 2 games, however he understood why he got dropped so I think Blake just needs to get on with it. Blake wasn't playing his best which is why I believe he was dropped, Graham was in pretty good form but he isn't chucking a hissy fit.
If he wants to leave for missing out on a grand final for a better player then he doesn't deserve to play at Geelong.

Re: If Mark Blake wants to leave....

i think these comments from many it would be a "slight on his personality" if he chose to leave the club - due to the hurt of being dropped for a grand final - is extremely harsh:(

how would you feel?

you played 20 of 22 senior games for the season - and for long periods of the season - you were absolutely championed about for your performance. i remember many of articles and talk back about how blake's performace in being a 2nd ruckman free'd up a lot of the pressure on ottens and made him be able to be moved forward and around the ground so much easier - and was a massive weapon in geelongs change in fortunes - especially early on whe that incredible momentum was just developing

early on - he was a massive part of the "ressurgence"

he also then plays the two lead in finals - having a poor match in the last one - and miss the Grand Final because because a guy who had played 5 senior games - takes your place because the only weakness you guys showed in the collingwood Prelim was that when ottens went off - collingwood dominated the ruck - it was a massive call by thompson - it would have hurt like hell - and been a massive kick in the guts to the "belief" he felt his coach had in him to perform in a big match.

to say it is a slight on him personally if he chose to leave is incredibly unfair. he missed out on a place in geelongs history when he missed that game - a club his father represented.

was it a slight on shane bond and derrick kicketts character that they left their clubs after similar things happened to them? i never thought so - it shows there passion and will to be part of the side was massive - and to be left out of such an occassion, sucked the life right out of them - really on the back of one poor performance in the game prior - that would hurt.

would it be a slight on brad ottens for leaving richmond when they were down? but after a couple of average years after he did leave - he showed a lot of character and strength to perfrom very well in a year in which meant a lot to geelongs history - and :thumbsu:'s up to him

to choose to leave gave Brad and would also give mark blake a chance to prove a lot to himself and his former team - and after the year you guys have had (which was magnificient ) - how much you guys enjoyed it all - and enjoed that day - how he would have felt missing it after being such a great contributor for the entire part of it - EXCEPT that day - would shake the foundations of what you think of the club - and also what you thought the club thought of you.

i also thought that thompson made a poor decision to not mention and thank he and egan when they were presented with the cup on the field - the only flaw i could possibly bring to your club as to how great you guys handled winning the grand final - personally, the thought of geelong winning a grand final had always made me sick because of the way i always expected people to act - but geelong the club and geelong the city really surprised me with how well MOST of your supporters handled winning the cup - compared to the west coast eagles last year - you guys were all stars at BEING champions.

if he choose's to leave - i think your club would be very disappointed - not because he showed a slight of character for the decision - but because they know they will be losing a quality player and a quality person - whose love and passion for the geelong footy club was so large - it killed his spirit to not be able to "prove the critics wrong" for the poor game against collingwood.

don't bag this kids character for wanting to leave guys - thats just horrible considering the circumstance's:eek:

Re: If Mark Blake wants to leave....

Blake won't leave, relax, he has too much going for him at Geelong. To pack it all in and go to another club, one that will be very expecting of him and critical would be tough for him.

His old man played for the cats, he is loved at the cats and everyone rates him as a footballer at the cats. He does need to develop still, he is not in the same class as King and wouldn't have done as well against Lade or Brogan. However, Blake is a quality tap ruckman, and when he gets more confidence with his ability to Mark and Kick he will be a very serviceable player - still, i doubt he will ever be in the same class as King or Ottens at their best.

I hope he goes away, puts his head down and really pushes for that second ruck spot next year - the more competition for places the better Geelong will perform next year.

Richmond chasing Blake

From theage.com

Meanwhile, Miller said the Tigers were interested in young Geelong ruckman Mark Blake, who was dropped by the Cats ahead of their grand final win over Port Adelaide, after playing 22 games for the season.
"We haven't spoken to (Blake's manager) Anthony McConville as yet, but we certainly will chase that up," Miller said.

Blake is one of several ruckmen expected to be a subject of negotiation, with the Western Bulldogs confident of snaring Adelaide's Ben Hudson and Melbourne expected to recruit Crows' youngster John Meesen.

Re: If Mark Blake wants to leave....

Lets put it in perspective:
- He played 22 of 25 games which is a massive improvement on last year.
- If he was at another club he would not have played much more than 20 H&A games.
- He is particularly less likely to have had the opportunity to play 2 finals at other clubs.
- If he goes to another club he will have less chance of playing in a GF in the future.
- He was replaced by a player in better form, it was not harsh, that's reality
- He is 21 years old and would have exceeded his own expectations this year
- He knows he has a place in the team in 2008 with King winding down.

Could be worse after last weeks talk.

Dont think he's worth it but better him than Byrnes.

You don't think he is worth what exactly? Nothing has been offered except an intention to talk to him.

He is young and already proven to be a good player in a team which stood out as the best team this year. Yet a supporter of the team who was the standout worst in the AFL does think he s worth it?

I wouldnt want to trade for him for what I feel the Cats would want, what pick do you think he would demand?

I also wasnt saying he's a dud. He's a good tap ruckman who barely kicks and I dont think we need to trade to get one.

I'd rather pick a player in the draft and continue developing our ruckman rookie Angus Graham.

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

No surpise that Richmond are after him.

But the question is, why would he want to leave the Cats, who are in their premiership window for the next 2-3 years, and where he will at least at some point in those years get a regular spot in the 22 (with West still a couple of years off), to go to a side that will not challenge for a number of years, if ever?

I would imagine the tigers are trying to get him in the PSD

Ah yes, I forgot his contract expired.

Well for free you wouldn't say no but I'd hope for a better PSD first pick. Reality of late shows I'm not living in reality though by recent number 1 PSD picks. :(

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

He's soft, they can have him.
even though he has really come on as a tap ruckman this year, i would have to agree. his a bit of a "Sally"

its no good just being a tap ruckman, we had a simlar player in peter street, pesonally i belive peters skills were better and he was 208cm.

how has trent west been developing?

personally i want kingy to play another year just to show the footy world the true domination of king and otto!

Wests around the ground capabilities far outweigh Blakeys and he could be one to look out for next season IMO.
