Re: Richmond chasing Blake

No surpise that Richmond are after him.

But the question is, why would he want to leave the Cats, who are in their premiership window for the next 2-3 years, and where he will at least at some point in those years get a regular spot in the 22 (with West still a couple of years off), to go to a side that will not challenge for a number of years, if ever?
Not to mention King is more likely to go down as often as Thai hooker so he will get plenty of game time next season.

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

Dont think Blake will leave. Why would he? Will be our number one ruckman in 2 years, and will then have 8 years in front of him in a premiership winning team.

'Hi Mr.Blake, I am Greg Miller from Richmond. Here at the Richmond Football Club we have quality......errrrrmmmm.....quality.....ummmmmm...... Sorry.'

Cant say leaving GFC for the worst club in the AFL would be an incentive to 'better one's position' after being dropped for the GF. It is akin to drinking bleach in lieu of beer.

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

I hope that we keep both. But Blake may be still hurting from not being picked for the Grand Final. If Richmond is interested, I have a deal. We could trade Blake, Charlie Gardiner and Henry Playfair to Richmond for their number 2 pick, if Richmond don't end up using No. 2 in the Judd deal or they miss out on getting Kruzer. Richmond will get a ruckman, a tall defender (Playfair) and another forward option (Gardiner) for No. 2 in the draft, who Geelong can then use to pick Scott Selwood, the brother of Joel, who I heard is the best of the four brothers. I mean, if he is BETTER than Joel, then he will be the next Chris Judd.

If we trade Steven King, then we can ask for more, because King is a more experienced player, who is a VFL and AFL Premiership player, and former All-Australian, so he demands more currency. Either way, we should try to use them to get as low a pick as we can to get Scott Selwood. Having the two brothers there will just make us even more powerful.

1. There is no way even Richmond would give up pick #2 for the likes of Playfair, Gardiner and Blake.

2. There is no way Scott Selwood is worth pick #2. If by some freak happenstance we got that pick, we'd be mad not to use it on a Cotchin or a Morton.

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

Saints are offering Blake $800,000 over three years. The only way we can come anywhere near offering him that is by getting rid of an over-paid injury-prone champ nearing the end of his career

Re: Richmond chasing Blake

The saints are talking a first round pick (9) for Blake as they know Richmond can snare him in the PSD. Do the deal cats. Give West the chance to fill in for King next year when he misses 16 games through injury.

I would be happy for both Blake and King to leave and the cats show faith in West and also trade for Brad Moran from the Kangaroos who could also be used as a key defender in the future.

Exactly... Blake can bank on King being injured for most of next year to hand him the chances he deserves. Hang in there Blakey!

yeah i hope we keep him too, but we dont need to hear the crying from his dad
tough call, but if geelong lost the game because of the ruck, would he accept the blame, because geelong has the right to change its team
this is a pivotal trading time, and blake has a decision to make, take it on the chin improve skills, or sook and go elsewhere
reminds me of peter street
sometimes better to let go when they have high currency
king is geelong and has bled for the club
i have never heard him whinge
all we hear at the moment is blake snr sook

And his daddy quotes the richmond game as a highlight
but i think i would have kicked a goal that day
where he needed to stand up he didnt
when playing with substandard teams is not when one should rely on for career highlights

West Aust Newspaper (absolute rag) reports today that St Kilda has offered Blake $800,000 over 3 years. Surely we can't match that?

Yeah, I just read that in The Age as well. Surely Geelong would have to consider that offer. We could be a chance to select Ben McEvoy from the Murray Bushrangers with a pick that high. Surely as a ruckman, McEvoy has more upside than Blake?

Would prefer Blake to stay but those sort of offers don't come around very often.

Rod Blake - "Cats failed my son"

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22554848-11088,00.html

I know its briefly been mentioned in another thread, but deserves its own. I cant understand how he can sook about this? He sooks about Blake being rested late in the year - nobody has a god-given right to wear the hoops! (unless you are an Ablett..:D) If the fitness and coaching staff decide to rest a guy who is in his first full season for a game when we already have top spot sealed, why shouldnt they be able to?

And Rod, slight exaggeration when u say that it had been front and back page news for 6 weeks non-stop??? Have to say that Mark and his Dad havent done themselves any favours with the recent developments.

I guess we find out today if its goodbye Blakey, but if it is, then I have lost respect for him. Rant over...:D

Yeah I'm a bit sick of hearing what Rod Blake has to say. He's becoming a rent-a-quote. Sure Mark Blake was stiff, but whatever the selection committee did was in the best interests of the club. I hope he stays but pick 9 from the Saints would be tempting.

If i were Mark, i'd respectfully tell the old man to "Shut the f*cK up". It's highly likely that he will be staying at the cats, and all this talk from his father cannot make his time at Geelong more enjoyable.

Keep ya nose out Dad!

Re: Rod Blake - "Cats failed my son"

The selectors made a decision based on what's best for the Geelong footy club, not Rod Blake. That is what they are there for!
