Re: Father Blake speaks of son's disappointment

[word is he wants to stay, but manager is talking to other clubs

club handled matter as best as it could

it has blown up becuase of the player. his family leaked his demotion to the media, before his team mates were told, his dad has blasted the club blah blah blah

he is not ottens, and not an automatic inclusion, couldnt hold his own against bigger bodies, and has poor disposal

coach also said that hawkins was probably 2 weeks away from senior selection again, so someone else would have been dropped

this team is hnoest, and we dont need this crrapola for next week
is not worth 800k over 3 years, means hawkins is worth 900k over 2 years

if he wants to cash up then he should leave

Re: Father Blake speaks of son's disappointment

His Dad is human. Of course he's disappointed and it would be difficult to suppress that disappointment when its your own flesh and blood. The matter is still pretty raw. Rod Blake was a very talented ruckman who won the Geelong B& F and finished 3rd in the Brownlow. He's a respected past player whom has merely let his emotions become public. No need to hang him or his son over it. Mark Blake needs to make the best decision for himself, not the club.

but dad needs to know when to shutup and not put more fuel on the fire
becuase more shite is written about his son, and creates pressure for his son

his son got more game time because king was injured, and at a similar age king was all australian, and a genuine champion
further developed than his son
lets all have a dose of reality

otherwise his mummy might call sen again

Yes, but King is the exception to the general rule of thumb that ruckmen take much longer to develop. Blake had a good year, was part of the 15 game streak and certainly enhanced his prospects as a developing ruckman. The correct decision was made come GF time though as the season had taken its toll and his form had tapered off. And yes, his dad should probably have kept his emotions in check, but as you and I don't know what its like to stand in his shoes, then who are we to cast judgement? Blake will now weigh up his prospects, and if they appear brighter at a rival club, then so be it.

Your comment re his mummy calling sen shows what little tact you have:thumbsdown:

Re: Father Blake speaks of son's disappointment

I agree that his dad is human, and I can say that as a supported I was really disappointed for blake so I cant even imagine how he or his family was feeling, but the reality is that everything was taken into consideration and King was chosen.

I think that the club handled it very well considering the difficult circumstances...

It wasnt as if blake learnt of the descision on SEN - 3 members of the coaching panel went to his house to break the news.

I think that the media is no place for the blake family... or any other footballing family to vent their frustrations especially about the club, that I think all would agree have given Blake alot of opportunities.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

How immature is Blake's father? Seriously he has lost the plot thinking his son's ambitions are bigger than the club. The Geelong coaching staff had to do whatever it took to win the premiership. Premiership success is the number one priority of any footy club NOT the wellbeing of a player who still has plenty of room for improvement.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

No doubt Blake was really stiff to miss the GF. He had every right to be peeved even though it proved to be the right decision to include King. That said, he's not the first player to suffer in this way and won't be the last. The measure of the man will be how he handles it from here. The time for sooking is over. If he stays with us it's time for head down, ar$e up and ensure his form never allows him to be in that position again.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

The thing that i didnt like hearing was on Ch 10 news tonight, that Geelong are going to give him a "revised offer". SO now cos of his, his dads, and his managers tantrums, we are going to pay him more. Considering the salary cap struggles that we re going to have anyway, I dont like this. It seems to me that part of this bigger contract demand is out of spite for missing the GF, i hope not, but thats just my take on it, which I dont like. Just my opinion of course.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

totally agree
no-one seems to note that varcoe played plenty of the year and was dumped just before the finals
carlton did the same with silvagni

all we have heard is the crapola re blake

destiny was in his hands, collingwood was embarrassing for him, we lost all momentum when he rucked. They are facts if he held his own, the pies would have been no-where near the cats. He needs a lot of improvement. I think he is over rated. Kingy has been awesome and a clear winner.

Blake needs his family to vent at home, he is not a child, i am sick of his family running all this through the media. His family caused his team mates to find out through the media that he was dropped, how professional. What goes around comes around.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

His dads outburst is just as bad as Jimmy Bartel's dads stunt, both totally unnecessary and out of line. Blake has the right to be disappointed but not sour and angry, it's all about the team and the club and he should feel part of the premiership even though he didnt play in the final, he was there all year and part of the overall success that was geelong 2007.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

bartels dad just showed why he is a tool
did himself no favours, and just proves what a champ his son is
his son didnt sook, and had bigger issues than blake to deal with

blake's dad should remember blake was a laughing stock not too long ago
should encourage him to get back and develop

he was a peter street type, and has not vastly changed

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

I think we have offered Mark a revised contract in light of offers made to him this week to change clubs.

Personally I think its better Rod got his chance to vent his spleen in the press now than let any latent animosity build ...and Mark has had a chance now to put the club under some pressure about his playing retention.

Hopefully something has been learnt by all and we can get on with the rest of trade week as there are some interesting opportunities out there...Troy Selwood being one.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

he will play if he is good enough
if kingy is in better form he needs to accept that
no crap no easy rides
his old man has put pressure and more crapola on his son

prefer he left now
all the way with kingy

recruit a power ruck
not be held over for a poor ruck man

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

The thing with Blake is that he had warranted selection all year, and leading up to the finals series. It was just terrible timing his form warranted his axing exactly when it did.

Blakey knew damn well Kingy was slamming his fist on the door to get in to the side, and all he had to do was play some reasonable footy over the finals series and he would have kept his spot for the Granny.
He played average against the Kangas, and particularly under pressure against terrible ruck opposition in the Prelim., he really had to show he was the man for the job.
He showed he wasn't ready for the big time when the pressure was cranked right up, and essentially dug his own grave.

I felt terrible for the poor bugger, but he should be concentrating on moving on from this, signing a new contract for the Cats and proving to everyone - particularly the coaching staff - that he is the man for the job for many years to come.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

Why are people so negative towards Blake? He has said absolutely nothing about the issue. He is on good terms with Kingy and has been to every function I have seen since the Grand Final. By all reports he is going to accept an offer from the cats which is slightly less than his market value. I reckon the 800K offer would have been 200K over the original cats offer.

Just because his parent are overprotective does not mean he deserves this. He's been a class act all the way through and I hope the cats fans give him a massive cheer when he steps on the field next year.

Blake puts pen to paper - Will be a Cat in '08

Mark Blake has put pen to paper and will definitely be a Cat in 2008. I don't think I need to say much more than that or even add credibility by saying where I got the info, but I know it has happened and look forward to it being announced. Good to hear.

Re: Blake puts pen to paper - Will be a Cat in '08

not surprise at the end of the day...is all about the $$$. blake is part of the first ruck duo so shouldnt come cheap but jsut hope the club havent blown the budget on him.

just incidently the reported 800k for 3 year offer from saints is actually not over the top. that rounds to 260k a year?? for a ruckmen in the best 22. surely can live with that?
