Re: Blake to remain a Cat

Did you see the GF? I know we dominated as a team, but Kingy was back so some of his best form, you never know, he could stay injury free, and if injury free in best form, atm is a better option than blake.
We can probably still afford him for one more year too, given that the real salary cap problems will be after next year.

I'm sure he's after a longer contract though, and that will be the most important factor with what happens with him.

I'm leaning towards him leaving...well being forced out actually...and us hopefully getting a good second round pick.

I would love him to stay if there was some sort of guarantee he would stay fit all year.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees that anyone will stay free of injury. It must be said that the last 6-8 weeks of the season were the fittest King has been for years. Quite possible that he is over his injuries.Giving him another year would allow further development of West who should be right for regular senior games by 2009.
If Blake deserves a pay rise then King deserves another year.

King has offered to stay on at reduced pay. So I think they should give him a one year contract, then next year if he wants to play on he can go on the veteran list and his salary is no longer under the salary cap. Then they could pay him a bit more to make up for 2007 if they wanted too.

Re: Blake to remain a Cat

i hope king goes
he's going to cost us a lot of money for not much in return (in my opinion).
i dont think he can stay injury free
he didnt manage that many games this yr and the ones he did were in the VFL where its a much slower pace and a lot easier on the body

i think its a better investment putting more money into blake who will be with us for much longer.
Nasty.

I think King should stay. Great clubman, good player when healthy, loyal but unlucky with injury in the recent past. What if Otto gets injured? Is Trent West ready? I don't think so.

The most sensible suggestion yet. We all know Kingy may only get another year out of his body but changing ruckmen around when the premiership window is wide open is fraught with unnecessary dangers. If we get 2 seasons out of the big fella thats a bonus again and can be rewarded as such when he's a veteran.

That's a really good point actually. I hadn't thought of that.

I really like Kingy and would love to see him play out his career in the hoops. But his injuries are a concern. Hopefully he completely get over them and continue his form from the GF.

I'm not sure what Blake would think of King playing at Geelong for another 2 or so years. You would think he'd want the security of knowing he is going to get a regular game after agreeing to a new contract.

Injury free in best form he is on par with Ottens. Was great to see him in full flight during the GF. I am hoping both stay.

Yeah I was bit harsh but it was mentioned all morning in the news outlets.

Onya Blakey, now will Kingy stay too? I hope so.
Geelong have offered him a one year deal apparently. Otherwise, if wants a longer term deal and more money there would be few clubs wanting him.

I think that means Kingy might be up for sale at the right price..

Anyone who was at the B&F i think the reaction he got when he walked in the room convinced him to stay, it was us saying if we got to choose it would have been you over King.

Re: The Official Mark Blake Merged threads

Why are people so negative towards Blake? He has said absolutely nothing about the issue. He is on good terms with Kingy and has been to every function I have seen since the Grand Final. By all reports he is going to accept an offer from the cats which is slightly less than his market value. I reckon the 800K offer would have been 200K over the original cats offer.

Just because his parent are overprotective does not mean he deserves this. He's been a class act all the way through and I hope the cats fans give him a massive cheer when he steps on the field next year.
Well said mate and 100% correct, done absolutely nothing to be ashamed off, hasn't uttered one word of criticism against the club or the coach, and given the massive disappointment he must have felt that says heaps about his character.

Everyone was quick to sing the praises of King [ and rightly so ] for saying he'd take a pay cut to stay at the club, yet from the looks of things Blake has accepted an offer less then what he was offered by the Saints and still gets no credit for it.

Would like to ask Turbocat exactly why he needs to "save face" or what "whining" he did, and I mean the kid himself, not his parents.

Anyway good news that he's staying, just hope he gets the chance to play in a premiership next year. :thumbsu:

thanks for making yet another thread about. Any new threads about Blake from here on in will be deleted
Well I see you're keeping my title though. I looked in the other thread and even entries today had people still speculating as to whether there he was going to stay or not (and there was no sign of this link)...

Re: If Mark Blake wants to leave....

This has been a media beat up from day 1. I spoke to Blakey at Lamby's the Sunday night after the Grand Final and he said he was always staying.... just a matter of signing the new deal....

Now, that would of been handy a week ago...:p Did it ever cross your mind to post that last week to dispell all the rumours and such? Could of saved BigFooty a heap of bandwidth.

Maybe so but as he was out of contract it is his managers responsibility to field any offers other clubs may have for his services and to use them as leverage to negotiate a new deal so I have no doubt that he was talking to other clubs and even if he wasn't considering seriously it was still something he had to consider.

So, does anyone know what is happening with King now? I think it would be a good result for the club if he also stayed.
