Blake on the cusp of a comeback?

We've won a lot more games with Blake in the ruck than Hawkins. First use of the ball.

Too bad Blake is poor around the ground, but Hawkins was terrible around the ground last week. He missed important defensive opportunities because he was too far behind play. Better to win in the ruck and be useless around the ground than to lose in the ruck and be useless around the ground.

Blake in.

he's just doin time until ottens breaks down. again
Agree that Ottens WILL spend a lot of this season rested or injured, going on his track record, so one of Blake, West (who both seem out of favour), and Simpson will get games.

can not see any future for west, he offers nothing in the ruck or back or forward compared to what weve got, hes a real missfit, but he tries

I reckon Blake will go with Ottens at years end, and the club will look to Simpson and Vardy to carry the ruck duties for the next few years.

I think West will also go with the expiration of his current contract.

Last year Lonergan was going to be gone. Then when he got the chance following Harley going , he went from a gone for sure to a guy signed on a multi year deal. Things can change if a vacancy presents a chance to prove oneself. The issue here is we still have quite a few of the older guys hanging around. No Mooney , No Scarlett , No Milburn , No Ottens and then I think we may find he has value to us somewhere on the field.

Where?

The games is changing before our eyes. Two years ago Wojo was left out of GF side , now 2 years older , he is perhaps more valuable than ever.So this year the game has changed again. Im sure by the end of the year the amont of teams have two legit ruckman will increase with one resting at full forward.
As much as they are whining , the rule change favours Ess with Ryder and Hille , also good for Carlton and of course Pies. Others will attempt to follow them.

Simpson is middle of the ground guy not unlike Sandilands. A young Ottens would be even more valuable , and Vardy is supposed to be this. But with the resting of Rucks in the forwardline , comes the requirement of defender who can play on them. Perhaps he and Lonergan will be more valuable if they can do this role.

One things for sure , if don't play him we will never know and we will have blown 5 + years of development.

Good points.
I have always wanted Lonergan in the team, our tallest defender , and still remember fondly his superlative performance in the 07 VFL GF. He has ability, and some pace, and a nice kicking action.
Can not forget the omission of Wojo in the 08 GF, which I feel was costly. Some were saying last year he was lucky to get a contract for 2010. He is one of the reasons Geelong is or was great to watch.

Can't say there is a lot about West that has grabbed me so far, but as you say, given some opportunities, may show something.

west is average in every department, too short for most ruck contests, too poor a kick for a forward, too slow for key defence, can not see the upside, and there are plenty of other options
