So happy Quade was not picked, glad the showpony who cost us the World Cup is out. This is the best Wallabies side in YEARS.
Cost us the World Cup? Is that a joke? Get your head out of the sand. If you want to see what cost us the World Cup look no further than the South African game and tell me how many times Cooper touched the ball? We lost the World Cup cause we had a bad forward pack and an even worst gameplan. It's amazing how uninformed people can simply make assertions like that. Read the comments of some the players after the World Cup, they didn't even know what the gameplan was!
Remind me who kicked the ball out on the full off the kickoff in that semi final...sorry but that muppet was so bad in the World Cup. Yes the gameplan was poor, Cooper was worse. Glad he is out of the side, I hope he stays there.
Are you saying that the kick-off cost us the game? That's seriously ridiculous. Explain to me how Cooper was worse than the likes of Ben Robinson, Nathan Sharpe, Sekope Kepu, Rob Simmonds, Radike Samo and Rocky Elsom? All 6 were consistently bad and they were the reason we lost. You're being extremely subjective. Cooper didn't have the best World Cup, but he was far from our worst. As I said the gameplan was the problem. Shifting Cooper down to fullback in defence was a big mistake by Deans, not Cooper, this was not because the idea was flawed (it wasn't), but Deans tried a gameplan that was tailor made for the Reds squad, not the Wallabies. For all those doubting Coopers ability to tackle needs to start re-evaluating, his tackling has improved out of sight.
Israel Dagg, Cory Jane, Ma'a Nonu, Sonny Bill Williams, Hosea Gear, Dan Carter, Aaron Smith, Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (captain), Liam Messam, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Owen Franks, Keven Mealamu, Tony Woodcock. Reserves: Ben Smith, Aaron Cruden, Piri Weepu, Victor Vito, Brodie Retallick, Ben Franks, Andrew Hore.
It set the tone for the whole damn game and it is EXACTLY the errors that stuffed us up all tournament. He was utterly useless. Note that the only game our side looked decent were the two games Barnes played! He was our worst, Elsom was probably as bad, but that is beside the point, Elsom sucks so it is no real accomplishment. He was horrible, I am sorry but we would have been better with Barnes at 10, at least he wouldn't have made elementary errors. These are under 10 errors, not errors that should happen in a test match. As for his defence, it is still laughable that he needs a bodyguard at 12. He is marginally better but only marginally. This side needs to play Northern Hemisphere rugby to be competitive. Having a rock solid 10 is the way to go.
Berrick Barnes played against Russia... and if you actually watched the Wales game, note that when Cooper was on the field we looked set to win big. In that game the forwards, for the first time, were able to break even. We only won by 3 points...
The fact that you say that we need to play Northern Hemisphere rugby shows just how little you know about rugby. Australia will never ever be suited to playing Northern Hemisphere rugby, unless we magically pluck out 4 world-class props, 4 world-class locks and 2 world-class loose forwards. To play Northern Hemisphere rugby you need to have a decent pack. Timani is starting...
That's a very hypocritical thing to say, you should watch the games Barnes played during 2008-2011 and watch Cooper play . If you're prepared to forget Barnes circa 2008-2011, you should have the decency to also forget about Coopers World Cup.
You realise that Barnes CONTROLLED the game, something Cooper has yet to be able to so consistently and I am not saying Barnes is outstanding at it, but he is the best we have got. You need a "general" at fly half, Cooper is not that, someone to guide you from A to B.
Australia WILL never beat NZ consistently playing open rugby, look at the side that most troubled NZ last year- France. That is the model that we should be using. France is not as dour as England, but you need to play the percentages against NZ, something Cooper is unable to even do. I agree the pack needs work, it is why at the next World Cup we need a Northern Hemisphere-style pack.
Cooper was much worse in the World Cup than Barnes was. He was so bad that every game he played we were waiting for him to stuff up somehow.
That's surely a joke? The only reason I want Cooper at flyhalf is because of his decision making. He's easily one of the best decision makers I've seen at flyhalf, I'd even go so far as to say his ability to read the play is what sets him apart from every single flyhalf in the world. If Cooper didn't have his less-than-stellar defence and tendency to show-off, he would the perfect flyhalf. To even suggest that Barnes is slightly better than Cooper is misguided and completely ridiculous. You only need to go to a training session to see that, Cooper is without a doubt the midfield general.
Sorry, but that comment is incredibly stupid. France circa 2011 should never ever be used as a model. That sounds something Deans would suggest to be honest, it's that crazy and stupid. France played with no coach, they relied on the individual brilliance of their pack, who might I add played the games of their lives. I'll also add that they played Morgan Parra at flyhalf, he's the complete opposite to Barnes as a player.
To understand how stupid "it is why at the next World Cup we need a Northern Hemisphere-style pack" you have to consider the fact Australia will never ever have the players. How do you suggest we get a Northern Hemisphere style pack? Are you suggesting that we steal a couple of French players, maybe some Argies? Smuggle them into suitcases and give them fake passports and ID's? Look at the players coming through at the moment, the likes of Gill, Hooper, Shatz, Higginbotham and Faingaa. They don't have the size or physicality of other nations. They can't play that type of rugby, you're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
You*. You were waiting... I find it sad that you despise a player so much that you were waiting for him to screw up. When a player puts on the gold jersey, you should be supporting them 100% regardless of how you feel about them personally.
France and Wales to an extent are perfect Northern Hemisphere teams and those are the two we should be modelling on.
So you're saying we should model ourselves on two teams that have been ranked below us for the entire professional era and and who have never won a world cup between them? One of which we've beaten 5 times in a row in less than a year and the other who we beat 59-16 away the last time we played.
You should be a little more subtle when trolling, bombers. The Welsh style of rugby at the moment isn't that far off our own anyway. Australia have to play to our traditional strengths, which is tactically smart, inventive ball in hand rugby backed by good defence. We have to use skill and brains to beat teams, we're never going to win playing a game based around power.
