effective immediatly and to be officially announced at a press conferance later today

unsure as to whether his contract will be payed out and if blight has resigned or been sacked

peter jonas looks the front runner to take over till year end

Malcolm Blight had been sacked. It appears the rumour is correct. Blighty is out, and Grant Thomas is in (for now).
It will be officially announced at a press conference at 1pm.

I would have to question the decision to sack him if that is what's happened.

Given that St Kilda were complaining about their finances, sacking him and paying out his lucrative contract and then having to pay another coach wouldn't be a very sound financial decision.

It's always a worry when a President comes out in public and defends the coach, nine times out of 10, it ends up with them sacked/resign not long after.

If he's been sacked (it's still an hour and a half 'till the announcement) then I am disgusted with the club. Who will want to coach St Kilda in the future? Tim "sports desk" Watson lasted longer. How does that work? All supporters need to get down to Moorabin tonight and demand to know how this club plans to survive. The list is good enough and will improve - look at collingwood - but we're gonna make another loss this year and what happens when we want Rondey Eade?

The flip side is that Blight has quit. He couldn't even wait until the end of the year. Well thanks for nothing Malcolm. No wait, thanks for scaring off any potential coaches, 'cos you were touted as the "Supercoach" and if it was too hard for you then how is a Mark Harvey or John Worsfold gonna feel?

Just a sad day for football and another dagger in the heart of your ordinary St Kilda supporter.

Incredible...either way it's another terrible day for the St.Kilda football club.

If Blight quit he is quite possibly the weakest individual in football at the moment - walking out after 15 rounds because "it's all too hard" is one of the lowest efforts I have ever heard of.

If, on the other hand, St. Kilda sacked him - why? Because he missed a club auction? Because he pointed out the culture down there is stuffed? The fact they have sacked him just reinforces the point.

Which ever way it was, a disaster for the long-term future of the club, and I seriously fear for the survival of the Saints. Let's hope they can turn it round with a win this week.

I can't believe this! How weak and gutless is Blight, he was paid stacks of money to rebuild a club and half way through his first season, "sorry boys, too hard, catchya laters" and then again, I doubt he even said that to them. I feel sorry for St Kilda, what are they meant to do now?

my source tells me that basically the club had a choice between blight and loewe/burke/harvey

blight wanted to get rid of the three champions and trade them at years end

the club didnt want this and made the only choice they could
if this is true and i believe it is, i commend the stkilda football club on staying behind their players

The Talking Footy interview with Rod Butters might have had something to do with this?

Comments from Caro and Walls such as "Whether Malcolm Blight is there or not, you are confident that they are going go alright", must have effected Blight's thinking in one way or another. Bagging/attacking the culture of the club (and in effect distancing himself from their performances) wouldn't have gone down too well with insiders at the club either, and possibly people directly challenged him about it. I dunno.

He also wouldn't have been happy to see Butters answering questions honestly, in saying that he would have rathered Malcolm attend the official functions on the weekend -- but from my perspective, that says more about Malcolm's inability to accept criticism more than anything else.

I strongly doubt that the St Kilda Football club would have sacked him. If it was in fact a sacking, there must have been something BIG for them to do that -- possibly the point that Walshy brought up. IMO, this is Blight's decision, and if that's the case, I for one have lost respect for him. A lot of coaches have gone to clubs while they have been struggling (and in some cases losing cultures over their whole histories), and risen above those challenges to excel in their fields (Pagan and Wallace come to mind) - It appears that Malcolm doesn't possess that kind of character or will.

*Rushes to change tip to St Kilda for match against us on Saturday*

*Rushes to put money on Malcolm Blight to coach Freo next year*

 I just can't belive that an club can implode this way. What have they learnt from mistakes of freo??? Zlich, most people were against sacking of the coach in the middle of the season. They better have pretty good reason to do so in this case....

On the other hand, I wonder what is the credibility rating of blighty as of now??? hmmmmm

You only just lost respect for him Westy?? He lost mine last year when he agreed to coach St. Kilda. Malcolm follows the $$$ and you can't have respect for someone like that.

This all sounds beautiful!

After getting humbled by the team "he walked out on" the Adelaide Crows, by 16 goals! Blight quits! :D :D

"Dockers here I come" :D

LOL QT, I feel the same way but the Saints team and supporters deserve better. I can't help but feel a little sad for them.
