Blight You Scum Bag!!!

You must be bleeding, but how could one feel sorry for a South Australian? I would like to welcome Blighty to the Saints, but he needs no welcome. After all, he is one of our clubs favourite sons!

Stay kewl ppl

Ladies and gentlemen, The Jeff has spoken.

Hope yor second team is Caaaarton, and then you can start to hate us one quarter of the amount we hate your side.
You should be forever grateful for what Blight enabled your mob to achieve. Frankly if he felt he wasn't doing his job well enough then he's done you a favour by getting out rather than half-heartedly hanging around just for the bucks.

How dare you speak about OUR coach like that?

Sorry, Malcolm Blight and St Kilda just sound so good when spoken about in the same sentence.

Though I have tried I cannot resent Blight for leaving Adelaide for whatever the reason.
Same applies to Rhenn. Champions both, you've got to admire them.

The Saints have moved up to be my 3rd side now though. I hope they do very very well.

Tom,

It would be nothing new really.

26 Wooden Spoons and still going strong my friend.

As a matter of interest Tom, this is the second time in two days that you have had a go at the saints.

Surely you aren't threatened by us?

Tom

You're new here, so here's a tip. Pay a little bit of respect to the SAINTER. His boys had a shocking 2000 season and yet he still posted here week after week.

Meanwhile, others who mouthed off about how good their teams were disappeared as soon as their clubs sank to the wrong end of the ladder.....Power Mad, where art thou?

As an ex-Fitzroy fan, I think I've got a bit of a monopoly on suffering thank you very much.

Anyway, I suppose I do have a bit of an aversion to the Saints, because my brother is a St.Kilda fan and he just goes on and on and on about them.

But good on you Sainter, for having the guts.

Stengas, that Blight sure is a scumbag, leaving you with 2 premierships!

Did you feel the same way about him in late September 1998?
I can understand Adelaide fans resenting him for his departure and ordinary 1999 where he was uninterested in coaching, telling everyone of his retirement. But look on the bright side, at least you got 2 premierships off him! He can't be all that bad

Obviously he did a shocking job. Only two premierships in three years. Don't be such an spoilt sport. How lucky are you? I have not even seen my team win a premiership and you have seen your team win two.

Thanks for the support Shinboners,

It's hard to believe I have been a member since March and only seen 2 wins.

I guess you know yourself that if you hang in there, good times are ahead. And if ours can come in the form of two premierships in the short term, I could accept that too!

I have grown quite immune to losing over the years. Still hurts but it has often been expected.

Tom,

Having a brother that is a saints fans explains why you are so down on us.

It is just a little unusual for someone to be so anti-St Kilda. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy the fact a supporter like yourself dislikes us. Much better than every second or third person having a soft spot for the saints because they feel sorry for us.

Good onya Tom's brother, clearly he's the bright one of the family

Tom, would you mind introducing him to Bigfooty, a few more Saints supporters in here wouldn't go astray. They can help share the load of debunking some of you heathens!

I'll see if he's interested, Karnaby!

I'd just like to make a point Stengas, that Adelaide are not adverse to pinching the odd coach from another club through financial inducements. Remember Robert Shaw?
Broke my heart when he left the Lions. Judging by the Crows' subsequent performances, however, I wonder if it would have made any difference.

Actually, I probably should say that there may be a proportion of opposition supporters who may have had a soft spot for the saints only to encounter some of our more colourful and abusive supporters and changed their minds very quickly.

I think BSA seems to be able to recognise a typical saints supporter.

Now if only I was old enough to fully appreciate the Animal Enclosure at Moorabbin!

Sainter, on a good day it was an absolute delight. On the other days, well that's where some of your colour and abuse comes in.
I've not had the opportunity of watching many games live over the last 15 years, and those I have have never measured up, especially in terms of the atmosphere (I found Waverley too big).
To be encompassed in a sea of Saints fans is something I've missed badly.

Like sainter and his beloved Saints, I also wished that a few more folks hated the Roys, it got a bit disheartening to hear sympathy all of the time, instead of incitefulness. Luckily, with the advent of the Lynch Mob, there was an opportunity to turn opposition supporters against us every now and then.

I only went to one game at Moorabbin, as I live in Carnegie I was able to just walk down Koornang Road and keep going til I got to Linton Street. As I got closer, more and more of the bescarfed types joined in the walk, making it an experience even before I got to the ground. We got done by about 25 points, with the most memorable act being when Plugger whirly-whirled Al Lynch into the fence.

At Waverley, we sat down on the far wing a couple of times, down in front of what remained of the old Cage. They sure were colourful, I had to stave one advancing gentleman (sic) off with a rendition of Clancy of the Overflow, by which recitement I managed to confuse him enough so that he smiled in appreciation and turned back to his fellow Saints.

Best memory of a St Kilda match; at Waverley, with Saints fans losing their ball over the fence at half time. Black Bombers accosted said gentleman and ball, and the entire wing, Lions and Saints alike, rose into ye olde cricket chant of 'we want the ball back'. Police arrived at one stage, acquired the footy, and kicked it back to the crowd, to much applause.

A mate of mine took the opportunity to jump the fence during the disturbance and perform a couple of handstands on the hallowed turf. He snuck back over the fence just before security got to him, and we successfully him at our feet ... he was not accosted.

Always found that day particularly memorable.

If too many people sympathise for the Saints, and too many people sympathised for the Roys, at least the two aforementioned fraternities had little sympathy for each other. In fact, we had some very hostile times at the footy. I suppose we were sticking up for each other's pride.

Stengas, leave Blighty alone. He's a great man and a terrific mentor to his football club and is very well respected throughout the AFL. He's honest, hard working and down to Earth and doesn't bullshit. Something you should work on!

Welcome to the jungle

Thanks Karnaby,

If you ever get a chance to go to Colonial Stadium, one thing that it seems to have in common with the old days at Moorabbin is the noise level.

The whole of level 1 on the city side of the ground (the side you see on TV) is all saints fans and from the brief times that we were in front throughout the year, the noise was deafening. Because of the retractable seating, the floor is hollow and the whole crowd start banging down on the seats. It makes for a great atmosphere when the St Kilda chant begins. A few of us were wondering what it would be like when the saints can get on a roll a bit more.

Mobbenfuhrer,

Great stories!

Do the members of the Lynch Mob congregate around a guy with a huge lions banner? If so then the noise coming from you guys is pretty loud.

I like your last point. Just because our sides have both struggled historically, it doesn't really mean that our supporters sympathise with each others plight. (I'm certainly not talking about the merger though) But we can probably relate to each other a little more. Kind of like the blockbuster games between the Essendons, Carltons, Collingwoods and Richmonds. Means a lot to them but nothing at all to the rest of us.

Fighting Fury,

The way our clubs are in regards to treating coaches, nothing would surprise me.
wink.gif
I do think that both of our teams have great coaches at the moment.
