damn paywall

can anyone post the article here ?

Doesn't say much, pretty much just who they supply. Only things worth noting:

An extract from the ASIC database reveals World Rugby Specialists, the parent company of BLK Sports who supply training and playing gear to the Lions, Suns, Titans and Queensland Reds, has been placed under external administration.

A Suns spokesman said they did not know yet if there would be apparel supplied for next season.

Reckon we'll see massive companies like Under Armour, Puma or Piping Hot making an entrance.
I doubt that they have the time to get stuff out for next season, and this is why BLK going under so suddenly is a problem. I could see the crows signing with UA if the BLK deal would have expired (which it still might) but if they need a new apparel sponsor now then they need to go with someone that can get out gear quickly.

A manufacturer could whip up on-field and training gear for a club in about a week if it was all hands on deck. ISC turn guernseys around for my club in two weeks if we need them, transit from Fiji included, and we would be way down the food chain. Obviously the retail stuff would take a lot longer as it's made cheaply in China. If a few clubs sign with ISC or whatever I'd imagine they'd have them kitted out in training gear in no time, but you wouldn't be able to buy a guernsey for Xmas.

How long does it really take to churn out a bunch of jumpers? Merch might be a little harder but I can see lots of teams just using in-house stuff for fans. If a club sorts out a sponsorship by February (which really is plenty of time – each club will have offers and it's not in their interest to fuff about and take too long to decide), surely clubs could have jumpers and some basic training stuff by April?

I can see many clubs possibly running out in brand new stuff throughout the year. Surely the AFL would be lenient if, say, St Kilda and Sekem can't wear new jumpers until round 8 or so.

Great result for football design, although it wouldn't shock me to see teams still run out in BLK kits for 2017

Only in administration, means they are still trading but being run by a person who is acting in the best interests of who is owed money.

BLK 99.9% sure will be still on the field in 2017.

Jay Clarke's article. Not much more information, but there are a couples of quote from an AFL "spokesman"

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...s/news-story/3d8fcb341aad8027e23e77feb7857b9c

“The AFL is aware that BLK has gone into receivership,” an AFL spokesman said.

“Our commercial/licensing departments are in the process of gathering as much information as they can from the receivers to understand the implications for those clubs in the competition that have a relationship with the company for 2017.

“We have six clubs that will be affected in some form.”

Also:
At least one club contacted by the Herald Sun is rapidly searching for a new sponsor to replace BLK.

The Townsville Bulletin article now has some interesting quotes from the Gold Coast Titans.

The Titans are in limbo as they sweat on the arrival of their playing strip for 2017.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley said the NRL-controlled club is exploring contingency plans after already placing an order with BLK for next season’s kit.

“I have been made aware of the situation regarding BLK,” he said.

“We are currently dealing with the NRL through their own merchandise division to determine our next steps.

“As far as we know, our jerseys for next season are being shipped. The NRL are going to help us co-ordinate what we do with our apparel and merchandise.

“All our gear for next year has been ordered (with BLK).

“Most of it is a contra arrangement so it’s not so much that we are out of pocket. It’s just whether our gear turns up or not.

“If we get the gear, we could get through next season. The most important thing is to get the gear.”
