From the AFL website:
"The club has been working closely with BLK to better ensure no immediate interruption to supply for the team and is confident fans will not face any delays or cancellations due to the news,” the club said in a statement.

If BLK is no longer going to exist, it would make sense to quickly sign with someone else, as they could make a bit more money from it. Some people would've already bought the new BLK gear, and would possibly buy the potential new sponsor's gear as well. Clubs would do anything for a bit more cash, even be willing to wear guernseys that look like neapolitan ice cream... oh wait.

Sucks for the Fijians, but weren't BLK making their player issue stuff in Queensland? When did they move production offshore? Or was that just the fan merch produced in Fiji?
Not sure when they moved, but I'm guessing it would have been cheaper for them to produce in Fiji rather than Australia. It is a shame for those workers though, they'll all lose their jobs, but great for us Jumper fanatics I guess.

What has been the biggest bomb shell to ever drop on the footy jumpers and graphic design board? Is this among the top? I wouldn't mind people's top 5 bomb shells they have experienced related to this board?

So have they photoshopped ISC out or BLK?
Isc, that's last years training top. Might be an old photo with the story coming out just now as on Facebook the coaches wear red and grey training shirts and players red singlets

How does the sponsorship work?

I was under the impression that signing with an apparel sponsor meant merch and player issue gear was supplied to the club without payment. A bit like how players sign with Nike and get will their gear for free (shoes etc). Des it not work he same way for professional clubs?

If clubs have to pay for what they order, what is the point f a sponsorship.

In terms of big newsworthy moments on the board, just having a look at the most replied to threads under the "News" prefix:
  • Indigenous Rounds are always big but the first one where every team was getting involved was huge, a 900+ reply thread
  • The Hawthorn clash jumper competition, and the release of their power ranger jumper a year earlier
  • New logos are always big. Bulldogs, Dees, Tiges etc
  • Gold Coast's branding, GWS' branding, Freo's re-branding
  • And then not so much on this board but the Return The Wings movement was massive
But yeah this is definitely up there. Particularly because of the ripple effect impacting workers, clubs, fans, etc.

They'd get all their PI stuff and what not and take payments from the manufacturer for that, but they'd probably have to pay for the retail stuff unless it's in the contract that they get a certain amount of merch to sell.

It'd all come down to each individual clubs contract with the supplier.

Ok thanks. Seems if you're not getting most of the stuff as part of the contract the negotiators are doing it wrong. In effect you're just offering free advertising to the sponsor...

I don't think people see ISC as advertising as much as they would see Woodside or Programmed as advertising though (for example). They're just there because they made the piece of cloth

Yeh, more brand association to the product over a straight up advertisement. That's how I've always seen it anyway.

Tigers board poster saying that Richmond have signed with someone (def not adidas) and that Brisbane are going to be with ISC

Inteeerrrrresting.

With ISC taking on so many clubs, isn't this the exact issue that BLK had...?

ISC have a far larger foundation to work with. BLK went too big too quickly and probably didn't get the footing with smaller local clubs creating the funds to go big.

It will all come down to if all the clubs have been paid. I've got no idea how it works but if they aren't getting paid I can guarantee they'll be desperately looking for another supplier.
Does anybody know if the clubs have been paid or will still get paid?

Can confirm from a source within the club, that GWS have not received their 2017 gear yet. Not sure what was going to happen, will be finding a new provider thought but was concerned COAR is a very real possibility with their current level around the AFL and GWS' lack of bargaining power.
