*Kind of a Grendel goes off tap* thread.

Just had a video player go bung on me. Now I know that things dont last forever but 4 years (or near enough) hardly seems right!!

My first video cost a small fortune ($800) for the time in 1983 when I bought it and they were the new thing on the block. It was a stero model and lasted for 13 years.

Now this latest video that was bought to replace it well. Its all whizz bang multi-channel stereo, auto-dubbing, multi-system etc etc etc. Cost half as much as the first player did and has lasted a third of the time!

Is it me or has this become the disposable age? How long are things meant to last? Longer than a half decade surely? Computers, TV's, games console systems, DVD's everything newer and newer, bolder and brighter than before.

Maybe they are but the damn things dont seem to be as well built as they used to be and value for money? Thats another thing altogether.

Had my rant now.. would have to blow up with footy season coming too! :( ;)

if they made things to last they'd be out of business pretty quick, especially considering how fast all the technology stuff is moving at the moment

I don't know why, but I've had to buy a new walkman or portable CD player every year, like clockwork, since 1986! And the old ones always die out either too far before Christmas, or just after New Year's.

Just another application of Murphy's Law at work, I reckon....

My wife reckons the most useless appliance is a HUSBAND

Naturally I most vehemently disagree....;) :p
