Hey woah Playfair had a purple patch where for a few matches before he injured himself (hand or foot, can't remember which) he was a very good CHF for us.

Also if we drop Neale to get some touch in the VFL, play Henry as a FF from the square. Danger has a new role thats a bit KPF, and a bit Gary Rohan, and Cameron does what Cameron does.

So play Henry in Neales role at CHF. Instruct him to fly for everything or bring it to ground. He has too big a leap for the medium defenders and too quick for the KPD.

Or bring Kolo back into defence, use Blicavs mainly ruck swapping with SDK and put Stanley to FF which is a role he can play and can swap into the ruck if needed.

Neale needs a few weeks in the VFL to find form and be reminded not to take his spot in the team for granted.

Re Neale: that seems a common call by our posters who have gradually lost patience with him. GFC have more pressing problems with an inoperable midfield, injuries including Stewart, and many other contributors to the worst game Scott has seen us play.

If anyone is staring down demotion, it's the sub Henry, one of Clark or Wiltshire and perhaps Mullin, who was atrocious but coming back from injury. Stanley as another tall, is injury and low energy prone, needs the chop out. I'm pretty sure they can't and won't hang Neale out to dry. He's a work in progress that might improve with playing- no matter our expectations at his stage of his development. So we have to strap ourselves in for the ride.

Neale has high potential, but isn't clunking marks and goals have dried up. Kolo is set to come back into the team, giving Neale a few weeks in the VFL and using someone else forward would be the smart thing to do.

Henry and Mullin absolutely should be on the chop this week as well.

We know, yeah, but who? Henry is a fizzer, and young COS and SDK settling into back half. Stanley is due a rest.
It can't be Kolo, or Jack Henry, or any of the smalls. No one suitable is setting fire to the twos.
Think I'm going to take another posters advice, rolling socks to throw.

We could be doing this right now regardless of Neale, and could've for the better part of a year now.

Henry either doesn't listen, or it doesn't bother the coaches.

Either way, Neale's irrelevant in that.

What is a retained possession disposal?
The opposite of a turnover.

A fallacy of a stat really, considering it lends itself to defenders who kick backwards to unmarked players, or posses the Tom Lonergan rule to handball off at all costs.

Mullin's definitely improving this year, but the stat doesn't really prove much.

If it was Humphries or Stewart, who actually attempt those bold kicks, it would mean a bit more.

So, effective disposal essentially.

Not sure Mullin is improving quickly enough, but he's put in some good games. I really hope he makes it

Which was the prediction last year after a win. But as you have read, many here have suggested our next 5 games after the Hawks were going to be a real challenge. And so it has started. Beating the Pies this week would certainly be joyous, and gladly, we will not be favourites
I don't tend to overreact after one result. Or else I'd have been utterly deflated after St Kilda and Brisbane, or declaring us premiership favourites the two weeks after.

Forecasting win/loss weeks and weeks in advance is a fool's task. I've engaged in it before but it's not high on my agenda this year.

Just on Neale
I noticed today sitting behind the goals that Weitering has a habit of holding opponents from behind in a tussle blindsiding the umpire.

Should have received at least 3 free kicks as the deepest forward.
Yeah he gets away with it all the time

Forwards need to start exaggerating the hold somehow - it looks goofy and you shouldn't have to do it, but Weitering needs to be caught out

Exactly if Neale put some mayo on he'd probably get a free
Arms wide and arched back to accentuate the hold!

Can't help but wonder what the older players like Hocking or Bairstow think about this stuff. It was probably a quarter-to-quarter regular occurrence back then.

I see nothing in that incident whatsoever and hope Cerra gets off.

The forceful swing arms like that of Nash on Miers, they are the ones which need to be made an example of.
Agree

Can't criticise the AFL without consequences. The real problem is we are getting pinged inconsistently and not getting rewarded consistently. It must be very frustrating for the players, let alone us unbiased supporters.
This is what I don't get.

Some coaches cry about the umpiring and get a positive result the next week (eg coach complains about holding the ball decisions and their next game umpires are red hot on it)

Chris Scott makes reasonable comments and we get absolutely reamed

Find it funny with Carlton fans, not to long ago they were 0-4 and furious with Voss wanting him sacked. Now they’ve beaten us and ‘THEY’RE BACK’ and we’re a bunch of sooks making excuses? lol

They should be reminded that the last top 8 side prior to yesterday they beat was intact…. Geelong, and they carried on like pork chops thinking they’d win the flag, and look how they went after that game last season, barely won any more games.
