Injury Blue Healers Medical Room - 2021

Injuries happen at every club in every sport so unless it’s someone doing something stupid (eg Stephenson getting pissed and falling off his bike) then it’s quite pointless looking for blame or thinking it’s something specific to the club.
Obviously it’s very frustrating for both the player and the club but let’s hope Stocker and club specialists can make it a full recovery and return so he can build on the good signs he showed last season.

No one, no one, no one ever….is to blame! Howard Jones

“The 21-year-old suffered the injury after his ankle was caught in a tackle at training, with scans confirming surgery will be the most effective approach for recovery”.

And from the boy himself
“I’ll be out three (to) four months so I might miss Round 1, but I’ll be fully recovered which is the main thing,” he wrote.

“Haha three (to) four (months) is a recommendation. I’ll get back in 10 weeks.

“10 weeks means I’m round 1 bro. 14 weeks is the max I can go and be fit for round 1. I’m just lucky I’m pretty match fit at the moment because I’m only off my legs for four weeks. Then back into a month block of running.”

Heey at least we're doing tackling drills now.

The annoying part of this is for Stocker he has worked hard on his weakness which is his stamina. It's probably the reason he's played in the back pocket and not on the ball at this stage in his career. Endurance probably hasn't come naturally for him he's hard to train it up. A long lay off means he probably goes back a fair way and will effect his game more than a Cottrell, Curnow or Marchbank who have that natural running ability. He's going to have to recover and train his endurance levels back up which means he's probably going to be coming back through the back pocket and not playing on the ball like many of us had hoped. Thankfully he will be back early in the season so he can work on it from there but very annoying for him.
Could he do something like swimming to keep his fitness up?

I'm sure he will be on the bike, in the pool and on the weights maybe to help maintain things which will help but there is nothing like specific training. You can't get good at running if you can't run. He'll go backwards unfortunately and it will be a process to build that back up. I think he will get to a fitness level where he can play in defence but as for playing midfield, this probably means not this year or maybe later this year. It's a shame for him because he's worked hard and improved on this.

Was it the last week of training last season & B.Kemp was the casualty of the same injury then?
Edit: was the last week in Jan, so could be a comparable timeline, albeit prob more conservative with BK’s knee rehab.
I think doc and Pickett both did there acl in the last week of training because and McGovern done his back too during the last week the other year

Stocker will get to know this machine very well in the next 4 weeks

Stocker mentioned he would be back running in 4 weeks so hopefully shouldn't affect his fitness to bad. I doubt he was going to play much midfield this season anyways. Just needs to get his fitness base up to play the backline role he has been playing.
Have read on here that Liam has been training with the midfield group mostly. Before the unfortunate injury I was expecting him to play quite a bit of midfield under Vossy. Oh well, maybe later in the season he will be up for it again. He played mid as a junior and I still expect this is wear his future lies eventually.

1 recruiter questioned stockers endurance and he is branded for life on this board. I've seen no evidence of it.
I used to watch him as a junior, it was definitely a legitimate weakness. He was a wonderful natural footballer, the ball just kept finding him anywhere in the contest plus he had good skills and tackles hard but as soon as the ball was out of his area he’d stop to a walk while the other mids sprinted to the next contest. Looking forward to when he does make the move to the midfield though, as I said he’s just a really natural ball winner.

It was during a practice match against * I think. Went for a speccy and landed flat on his back. He was looking good too, and it stuffed his whole year.

There is a recent article where he has been training with one of our VFL players (Crocker) which mentions it as well.
Now there's a forward who works his backside off. I feel sorry for him being spat out of the AFL system before his time. Maybe he'll do a Podsiadly one day.

It wasn't a myth....

From Stocker's Morrish Medal speech:

“I’m not really fit enough to be an outside mid, so I base myself on the inside and try and get as many clearances as I can.

Can't wait til he's a full-time mid at AFL level. Love the combo of his attributes and mongrel.

Think that was right for MM. He hasn’t really recovered since. This season hopefully.

It was a praccy match/training for Pickett as Bolt’s was on the ground with him straight after it happened.
Doch’s was training, innocuous movement & pinged.
