I will attend the Blue and White night as I did last year but this year with lower expectations of what will be entertaining.
I am trying to muster up some stuff to donate. The auction looks again to be the main event.
It would be good to get an indication of the interest from the members here as to who would go and who cant/wont.
$120.00 is alot I know but if a table of Bigfooty Roos was there it would be alot easier to consume the equal amount of booze with the good conversation. God only knows thats what our table needed last year.

After attending last year's fizzer, I'm going to punish myself again and attend.

I appreciated getting a table near the players, but didn't appreciate being near the back door and freezing my **** off!

I'll get Hilts to scam a better table this time!

When is it anyway Doc? ;)

At the moment, I probably won't go.

As for Doc looking for something to donate to the auction, how about if a bunch of us get together and pitch in, say $20, and buy something and donate it to the club?

My suggestion....a case of 1998 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz at about $200....that's 10 of us at $20 each (Dan Murphy's special.....I have heard there is the odd case left over somewhere, but I'll track it down . :) The club would have to get a decent amount of money at auction for that.

A whole bunch of wine was auctioned last year. Dont ask me what sort it was. I know nothing. I have got a Dean Jones signed cricket bat which I will give to them hopefully it will out do the last one at $840.00 for a cricket club.

I'm pretty sure Duck bought the case of wine last year didn't he?

I doubt I'll go but am happy to chuck in for Shinners' idea.

OK I am really p---ed off about this one. Today I rang the club to put my name down for the cocktail party on Monday night. Not sure that I am going but, if we dont then there will be three tickets at the door for any of you who want to take a friend.

Anyway I asked about the Blue and White night, I thought it was just ok last year, it cost me a fortune by the end of the night. I told her that I never went to the auction nights in previous years and I thought that the way they were doing this blue and white night was just a cute way of conning us into going to the auction.

This is a long story, so dont leave me yet. You would all know that nothing my club does gets under my skin, but this one has. When I asked her about the fashion parade she more or less said that there wouldnt be one this year, as they cost the club money. In 1996, we went to a cocktail party (pagons patron one) we went to a fashion parade, a cocktail at Broady town hall put on by the players (the best night I have ever had at a Kangas do) then we went to the B&F I also went to a legends and larrikins day at the club. Now it looks to me that this Blue and White night apart from the cocktail party and B&F will be the only things on this year. She told me that there is a lot of time asked of the players:eek: Still with me:o . Well I say tough, they dont look like they have much else to do this year:rolleyes: We didnt have a proper family day. Anyway just needed to get this off my chest, seems while other clubs are doing more with their supporters, our club is doing less, and I dont like it, not for my sake but for the supporters that enjoy meeting up with the players now and then. We never have anything on at the club anymore and that room up the top is alright, In fact I would much rather go there than to these fancy hotels etc. I am interested in hearing what you all think:confused:

Have a look at the topic I posted on the Team of the Century this is a dead end as well It seem as though the club cant organise any thing any more.

A half a dozen players a karaoke machine and $5.00 to get in at the Social club every say 8 weeks and you would have a full house of pissed happy supporters.

Could it be that there simply is not enough staff to organise things . We got the invite for the cocktail party 1 week before it happens. Im sure its earlier this year. Why is this so.

I dont know if it is that there is not enough of them or that they just dont give a stuff. I started to get this feeling last year and thought I was just imagining things, but today the girl I spoke to told me that she would pass my reamarks on to someone. I told her not to bother that I would tell someone who gives a shite myself. It is really disheartening that their attitude is coming accross to the members. Maybe they should take a look at the likes of Hawthorn and maybe god I hate to say it Collingwood, they seem to be at least interested in their members. I think a letter to Greg Miller will be on its way tomorrow. I dont mind handing over my money but it would be nice if they could just take the time to give us something without saying more please first.

Agree whole heartedly, Daph.

I would much rather give $120 straight to the Beware Campaign than pay for a glorified auction with little entertainment where the captain stands up & says please don't ask the players for autographs tonight, give them & their partners some space.

Far be it for me to crticize the Duck, I know he hangs around on training nights until the last kiddie is satisfied with photos & autographs.

I just think its a bit rich paying to go along to a function, being told to look at the players but don't touch.

I also wanna see a Roos fashion parade before I die. Surely touching is expected at those events.

I encourage people to keep putting money into the club, I'd hate for one of the club officials to read this and believe I was advocating people to not attend functions. I just don't think they should mislead the members about what they're getting. (IE 80% auction, 20% entertainment consisting of an Austen Tayshus film clip, that filthy bogan Chris Franklin singing BLOKE, Andrew Startin's tired repertoir, an already aired Man I Feel Like a Woman act, 3 boys in drag dancing to Tina Turner, Peter Bell singing a Grease duet with Greg Miller's sister in law and Eagle-Eye Cherry covers featuring Colby on guitar.

I went to every fashion parade bar 1 - I think I was overseas at the time.

I remember one of the first back in 1994 where they had it at the Social Club at Arden Street, it was probably the best one with Duck stripping down to his Red 7 days in Rio Jocks!

The good thing about fashion parades is the women are mostly 2 pot screamers and practically throw their money at the club for raffles, auctions, etc after a couple of shandies - GOOD MONEY EARNER!

And I think this has already been mentioned, but back in '94 or '95 they had a Players Kaeroke night at Arden Street as well - another cheap option for the club, but a good profit was made from the bar I'm sure!

Surely we could get primary school children to think of better ways to raise money for the club thru marketing functions that the tired, boring and predictable old Francis Trainor!

BRING BACK THE FASHION PARADE!!!!!

Well its this Saturday got the tickets with 35eye and the ever chatting Drexl should be a ok night it could not be as bad as last year. Could it? Anyone else going?

The aim of the night is to get more that $1000.00 for the Dean Jones bat. And get those 50 autographs that Wayne has promised me.

im making sure denis pagan and geoff walsh see me, then im off to kfc to see what i can buy with the contents of the safe.

last years blue and white night was a great success. the club raised :

- 4,673 pieces of chicken
- 312 zinger burgers
- 598 crispy strips
- 37 large fries
- 2 drums of gravy (200 litres each)
- 91,023 nuggets (with 182 litres of BBQ sauce)
- 75 corn cobs
- 12 chocolate mooses (yes the north american animal covered in chocolate - im a hard man to please)
- 1 trough, 12 feet by 10 feet, and a metre deep, full of coleslaw

sounds more like a red and white night for me, care of the colonel.
i like it like that !!!

Redd, my bid depends on if the clothes are for the blue rinse set or us younger chickies........ Seriously, that was nice of you to donate!

One day Malibu one day, You are going to be in that blue rinse set, you are going to have your little crocheted rug around your legs at the footy. By the way I did have a nice blanket at the footy on Friday night, but it wasnt crocheted, but I supposed that I am still going to be classed as an old fogie. I do not have a grey hair on my head though, that should put me just on the border line, what do you think.

You're not an old fogie Daphne.
I didn't see the rug, whenever I was going to say hello to you, you weren't looking my way and I didn't know whether to yell out "Hi daph" or "Hi Rose" or "Hi whatever", next time I'll yell out "Hi Old Fogie" :D

I will NEVER have a blue rinse, EVER!!!! Or a perm.

I will have a grey bun and sit on my rocking chair listening to the footy on the radio, while knitting my blue and white blanket! :D
