There is the problem.

If you do not care enough to make the selections at the time then why complain years later when they do not work out?
Because it wasn't his job in the first place? Talk about blind devotion. You yourself (whoever you are) can't come up with any draft blunders made by us in the past 10 years? Seriously?

Why shouldn't people complain about our poor draft results? Im not one to focus on the past mistakes, but people are 100% right when they say we got nothing out of years of drafting.

You're missing the point dude. We don't judge recruiting standards by who Malifice would've drafted.

I don't judge my stockbroker by which stocks I would have invested in. I judge them compared to the performance of other portfolios. That's why I have a stockbroker.

Compared to all other 17 clubs of the AFL we are by far and away the worst over that period. If you can think of anyone who did worse from 2008 to 2014 in drafting then us, I would like to hear who they are.

Is there a metric of any sort you can point to draft by draft that is better?
Yes. The performance of the 17 other clubs over that same period. GWS and the suns is being the obvious exceptions due to having a zillion and one low draft picks.

Heck, even teams that have repeatedly finished in the top four have done better than us over that period.

Name me a club and we can compare drafting over that period.

That is very obvious. Very obvious.

Is there a metric of any sort you can point to draft by draft that is better?

Doggies if obvious pull out of the butt metric but what is behind it?

Hawks is better out of the butt metric, but what is behind it?

Would love to see the Malifice reason behind all the Hawks and Bulldogs picks and why they were better than everyone else.
Where do you think it all fell down then? The Hawks and the Dogs all have premierships to their name. Why don't we?

You really wanna have a look at the Bulldogs picks? Bontompelli, Johansson, Stringer and that dwarf with the helmet alone trump all of our draft picks from 2008 to 2014.

Cripps included presuming you rate the Bont above Cripps which is pretty unanimous around these parts.

I'd rather have Johansson, Stringer, Libba and the dwarf over Rowe, Boeckhurst, Buckley and Graham even if were calling Cripps and Bont a wash.

OK.

Then this is the same as every other Carlton forum.

There are posters who will bag the recruiting.

But they will not put up their alternative picks for each Carlton pick each year, even for just one year!

Show us what you picked against the rest of the AFL, over 3, 4, 5 or whatever picks it was each year?

Would love to see it. If you can provide proof you are a superstar and will have yourself a job somewhere.
God you're childish but I've taken on your challenge because I'm curious about who went where in these drafts... I'm not suggesting Carlton should've been good enough to make some of these picks, I'm merely responding to this poster who seems to think there was no better options than the players we took.

2008
1st: Yarran, not necessarily a bad pick, could've had Ziebell, Sidebottom, Shuey, Hannebery, Beams,
2nd: Robinson, Could've had Sloane,
Doesn't appear to be a deep draft, not much available after that.

2009
1st: Lucas... absolute shit pick. Could've had Talia, FYFE, Gunston and Gawn...
2nd: Marcus Davies... another great pick. Vardy, Roberton, Cowan, Duryea,

2010
1st: Watson. Players available... I Smith, M Wallis, C Guthrie, Howe
2nd: Patrick Mccarthy: Perhaps Parker was the better choice here.
3rd: Luke Mitchell: Fasolo, T Mcdonald, A Johnson (Yeah even with 5 knee reco's), Puopolo

2011
1st: Bootsma: Ross, Yeo, Hamling, quite a few other players who are good bit parters now
2nd: Sam Rowe, a pretty good pick. Neale was still available but credit where its due. Rowe has done well.

I'm gonna stop now. It's pretty obvious Carlton used to treat the draft as something of little importance, apart from missing on so many picks we also didn't have many picks and didn't seem to try to stockpile on youth at any stage.

Who did you pick though each year?

Not harry hindsight?
Mate you aren't providing anything, its dead easy to play the negative ass wipe and force others to prove something to you. The drafting has been shit, how can everyone see it except you? I think thats the issue you should be looking at.

Our drafting & trading from 2008-2014 has yielded 2 gun players (Cripps, Doc) and the other few that are left will most likely be turfed at the end of this season (Rowe will get another year or 2 IMO).

In anyone's language, that's a disaster. Can't see how it can possibly be disputed.

Would love to see just one person put up their alternative picks backed up by references to posts before the draft.

Even just ONE for ONE draft!!

That would be great.

Do not think it will happen though.

"Could not be bothered"

"Too busy complaining about past drafts to make picks for this draft"

"Carlton is shit, .... I barrack for carlton but I always say Carlton is shit"

Not that it matters, but if you're curious:

2007: Cotchin. Then Palmer.
2008: Hurley (gone) Ziebull was my second choice and was still available.
2009: Jetta
2010: Darling
2011: No preference, went in blind due to being in London. Knew about no one other than Patton
2012: See above.
2013: See above. Replace Patton with Boyd
2014: Wright. Would have been available at our pick if we haven't have traded for Jacksh. Otherwise Laverde.
2015: Couldn't split Shache and Weitering. Finally went with Wiets at the last second.
2016: Brodie.

My posting history confirms the above.

Fifteen other clubs can say our drafting is shit right now.

I THINK SAYING OUR DRAFTING PRE 2015 IS FAIR GAME.

BUT SO WHAT?

ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE GONE!!!!

GONE I TELLS YA!!

Judge EVERYTHING FROM 2016 ONWARDS.

THIS IS WHERE WE LIVE OR DIE!!!!

Were you one of those special people who only got to pick first round draft picks and only in certain years where it suited you?
