I don't have a problem with Ed being in the blues team at the moment. I have a problem with having too many fringe players in the team at once, taking away position's from young kids. Saying that there is a few players that should go before Ed.

Also you can't honestly say Ed Curnow would be on every other AFL list. If he was a delisted free agent, I'm not sure if any other club would pick him up do to age and ability.
I'll answer my own question, team by team. Players who offer as much, or less than, Ed Curnow. In fairness, I'll leave out the first and second year players, and KPP's - leaving us with the players who are old enough that they are/should be senior contributors in a non key position.

Adelaide - Douglas, McKay, Smith, Seedsman, Hampton, Menzel, Ellis-Yolmen
Brisbane - Bastinac, Rich, Robinson, Christensen, Bewick, Lester, Bell, Taylor (could go on and on with this list)
Collingwood - Varcoe, White, Greenwood, Sinclair, Thomas, Broomhead
Essendon - Stanton, Bird, Zaharakis, Hocking, Howlett, Myers
Fremantle - Suban, Ballentyne, Spurr, Sutcliffe, Bennell
Geelong - Tuohy, Motlop, Murdoch, Black, Horlin-Smith, Lang, Bews, Ruggles, Cowan
Gold Coast - Harbrow, Rosa, Hanley, Shaw, McKenzie, Swallow, Lyons, Sexton, Lemmens, Lonergan, Hallahan
GWS - Griffen, De Boer, Mzungu
Hawthorn - Langford, Hartung
Melbourne - Garlett, Melksham, Jetta, Hibberd, Trengove, Bugg, Kent, Kennedy, Salem, Vandenberg
North Melbourne - Swallow, Cunnington, Gibson, Jacobs, Williams, Mullett, Hrovat, Turner, Anderson, Dumont
Port Adelaide - Monfries, Broadbent, White, Hartlett, Polec, Toumpas, Gray (Sam), Amon
Richmond - Edwards, Grigg, Ellis, Hunt, Caddy, Morris, Conca, Vlastuin, Townsend, Mcintosh, Lambert, Lennon
St Kilda - Stevens (Koby), Dunstan, Acres, Minchington
Sydney - Cunningham, Jones, Towers, Jack (Brandon), Edwards, Hewett, Robinson
West Coast - Masten, Wellingham, Redden, Yeo, Hutchings
Western Bulldogs - Wallis, Macrae, Biggs, Jong, Honeychurch, Webb

He's rated the 145th best player in the AFL by the AFL's own metrics. He's the 66th best midfielder, if you sort by position.

You can make the argument that he wouldn't get a gig in a contending team on GF day, but we've all seen plenty of average footballers walk away with a flag to their name. I can also make the counter-argument that without guys like Ed Curnow, we'll never get to a position where we can contend for a flag in the first place.

Cast your mind back to 12 months ago. I believe we were favorites then as well.
Our forward line remains as impotent as last year (where our leading goalkicker was Wright with 24 odd). Our midfield hasnt improved barring Murphy coming back (Cripps has missed 3 months of the pre-season and we cant expect much from SPS). The backline still looks good. Other sides have improved (Essendon get players back plus the low picks they've stockpiled over the past few years, Saints and Dees have improved, Freo get Fyfe back and look dangerous, even the Suns get back a handy player in Ablett etc).

I cant see a team other than us or Brisbane coming last barring a team dramtically imploding (like Freo last year). The Suns should round out the bottom three IMO.

The reality is we're a team of kids, plus a core of 8 or so veterans (Murphy, Simpson, Kruezer, Gibbs, Army, White, Rowe, Thomas) serving as a hardened spine. The point of this year is to get games into the kids, while avoiding weekly floggings (wrecking the kids and creating a toxic culture).

We'll take the wins where we get them, but its really just about development and consistency this year.

We are a lot younger this year and will probably even younger next year. This is really the first year we start to develop our kids and have a dozen that could play 10 plus games. Bottom 3 for the next 2 years whilst these kids play is realistic

We're equal favorites for the spoon this year mate.

That wont change dramatically next year or the year after (although we should be starting to see improvement as the kids drafted in 15-17 start to mature).

I stick by 2020 as the year we're pushing back into the eight.
4 more years out of the 8? I highly doubt that. That is a seriously long time.

In 4 years I expect to be challenging top 4.

Sorry but I don't really understand what you are trying to achieve with this list. You have named a lot of players that can't get a game, play a different position, are better players, equal to or worse then Ed.

I think Ed is Carltons fourth best midfielder but I still don't think any other club would pick him up as a delisted free agent that is 28 years old.

That's wildly optimistic imo. It assumes that all of our recent draftees become solid to good AFL players (or better). I think history has also shown that its difficult to reach top 4 until you have a solid core of players in the 100-150 game range, which we won't have at that point.

In four years time, only Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer, Docherty, Ed and Plowman of those who could conceivably get a game in a top 4 side will be over 100 games. Weitering will be approaching that mark, as will Marchbank.

Those guys plus a bunch of talent in the 50-75 game range can make top 8 but unlikely to be top 4. The problem is that our drafting has created an enormous hole in players currently approaching the 75-100 game mark. Unless we bring that experience in via free-agency, we're 3-4 years away from consistently playing finals, with top 4 coming a couple of years after that. Things can change quickly though I suppose.

Agree with most of that except our forward/midfield should improve with players such as Pickett and Charlie. How much remains to be seen but it's a step-up from last year.

Ok folks 'off season off topic' is done & dusted in this thread.

The last 10 or so pages are all list management discussion.

List Management doesn't belong in the Bluemour Discussion thread.

It belongs here:-

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2017-list-management-discussion.1152736/page-82

It's a time consuming task moving the last 10+ pages of posts so they will remain in this thread.

If you need to quote a post from this thread, just copy it across to the List Management thread or whichever thread it relates to.

Moderator censorship here, deleting posts left right and centre , when they're not offensive or insidious , has gone mad. Over-officiating to the extreme.
Posts have been MOVED to the List Management thread that have been posted after my post above.

Get your facts right before making baseless accusations.

FACT: This is NOT a List Management thread.

Seriously I really doubt most posters give a rats arse if a post is mistakenly made in the wrong thread

Maybe the Mods should move on a bit
I may be the only poster but I would really appreciate if we can keep these threads on topic - I don't have the time/inclination to trawl throw pages of off-topic content trying to follow posts that are actually relevant.

And I've warned you plenty of times too
Oh deleted my retort again
Better to give yourself a holiday than carry on with this type of pettiness in the hope you can play the victim when you get a reaction.

The rest of us don't need to see this rubbish.
