Blackburn United EPL ... sorta
Because we are the afl media darlings ... plus aussies have a tendency of tall poppy syndrome so when a big club struggles like we have for a prolonged period the knives come out.

He is an A grade attacking and rounded inside/ outside Mid, bordering on elite, 24 years of age, and barracked for us as a kid. He is precisely the kind of player we need. Comparing him to Curnow is ridiculous.[/QUOTE]
Ed is a real heart and soul player for us, but he is not in the same boat as Shiel when it comes to elite talent. He`s a great tagger Ed but if we had a good list he would struggle to stay on it imo. He does a job for us every week though and at the moment deserves his place in the team........but if Carlton could get Shiel he would be a great get. Someone with experience and talent becomes an example for the younger guys and can only speed up their learning process I believe. You cannot just have kids out there because their confidence would go out the window, and that is why Murph and Gibbs and Simmo etc are good for our new guys.

I agree. They bought in Presti and Caddy,Nankervis and offloaded Delidio.
The Blues are going to spend a few $$$$'s the end of this season with quite a few more blokes getting the chop. We will have a massive war chest
Will be interesting to see what we do with it.

Will we be willing to offer someone like Fyfe over 1 million a season when SOS has previously negotiating down contracts and refusing to overpay? (eg Carlisle, Prestia)

Will anyone decent like Fyfe actually want to come to Carlton when they could go to a team closer to success?

Even if we attract someone with all that money, unless we get Free Agents exclusively it would involve trading our precious few assets to get them to the club.

Any chance at getting Shiel would probably only come in a few years when he becomes a FA and hopefully by then he's won a premiership at GWS and we'll be on the rise so he can see himself having success with us.

I'll do you one better. Spoke with one of the Freo recruiters a few days ago. Chance of Fyfe coming to Carlton ? BIG FAT ZERO.

Other things said were:

More than confident he will stay.
Is he DID leave (which is unlikely) Saints are the ones and it will definitely involve a trade for draft picks, which means no free agency.

Fyfe ain't coming. Time to move on.
