could save ourselves a pick and develop rowe once he recovers, with the emergence of jones and silvagni, a.
blicavs has gone downhill and might be cheap to pick up. not sure what he is capable of resting forward. certainly fits the kreuzer mold, but with even better endurance but perhaps less footy smarts... not quite as skilled in clearance work once it hits the deck in close.
gc's brooksby is behind both witts and nicholls now.
preuss - can't get a game behind majak, but a better player. teams will be all up in his ears, we should be one of them. only just turned 22.
Considering we are talking mainly "what ifs" we are looking for a cheap contingency player aren't we? Now I haven't kept up with this player's career in recent times but here's a left fielder-Isn't Power's Lobbe sitting out a hefty contract at the moment with one leg out the door?...and Hinkley kicking the other leg! Melbourne boy and would come very cheap - as a backup option.

Third club is indeed involved with a Kelly deal, and it's Richmond. We are helping GWS clear the decks to take Martin as a FA via a big salary dump. In return we will be given Kelly & Hopper for our first and change (don't know what this is).

I have said I suspected this was happening a few times now, and today I heard a source within the club has basically advised it to be true
Not sure how everyone else feels, but this makes sense to me for a whole number of reasons.

Re: GWS, not sure who else is on their list that may be a salary dump apart from Griffen or Patton (not in current form or without a top pick alone).
Shaw & Deledio (sure Richmond are stumping up part of his salary) I couldn't see moving again. Steve J is on a yearly contract and retirement > coaching is next.
Scully is another but couldn't see being a part either, though I'm sure he's reduced $'s after his initial windfall. Same for Ward but captain material.

I do think there is more to it but not sure what that is. I would suspect a 1st round pick somehow.
We don't have a 2nd round pick this year to give for Sicily and I don't want to give next years as I think we need to save that as I suspect next years trade period will be huge.
Something a lot more realistic would be Gibbs to Crows for #15 + #18 (from Bris for Cameron) to Carlton.

Then we give Hawks those 2 picks for their 2018 1st. Sicily can stay there or at least very far away from the Carlton Football Club.

This also makes a lot of sense.

Hawthorn being Hawthorn, they would likely back themselves to rise up the ladder next year

A couple of so called experts today in the Carlton members were saying
If Kelly leaves it will be to us
Hopper is a near certainty
We are chasing Anthony Miles from Richmond and have put an offer to him (second time I've heard this)

No idea how reliable they are
I may have been sitting near you. It was coming from quite a prominent Carlton person. He said Kelly is a 90% chance to stay 9% chance to us. Hopper he just said is coming to us

I am confused as to how Brisbane have pick 18. Are they going to win the flag?

Losing Martin.

No one said they'd gain anything
Gaining compensation but.

Just on DM, I recon dusty is a great player, but someone who is a mercenary and holds his current club to ransom when every contract expires is good for any club other than CFC - this type, do not want!

Suits me fine that he is at richmond tbh and hope he stays there!

Miles to Carlton would be another Matty Wright type pick - better than average player forced to the fringes due to the quality of players he is directly competing against. If we could get him at the right price, then I'd be very happy.

Going through the list of GWS players that might be part of a salary dump
buntine (2 games this year, contracted til 2019)
deledio (0 games this year, contracted til 2019)
Mohr (1 game this year, contracted til 2018)
griffen (3 games this year, contracted til 2018)

Perhaps...
Carlton get Hopper + Kelly + Deledio + Griffen + buntine -> 2018 1st + casboult compo pick
GWS get Martin + casboult compo pick -> Hopper + Kelly + Deledio + Griffen + buntine + 2017 2nd round (effectively upgrades 2nd round pick)
Richmond get blues 2018 1st + GWS 2017 2nd round -> Martin
