Gotta feel for Dylan because he clearly puts in at the gym and on the track, so you have to wonder if he's not too happy about how he's been pigeon-holed over the journey.

Yes I know many will point out his ball use, but does he seem like a wildly disagreeable type to anyone? Where is the disconnect between the coaches, his game study and his execution?

Seems like a nice bloke. But being a good bloke and putting in hard just doesn't cut it. Been in the system for 6 years now.

Just not up to it unfortunately. His decision making is just not good enough.
Would trade Buckley for Balic in a heartbeat.

Love Dyl's attitude, but he's so far down the pecking order at Carlton it's in his best interests to seek other opportunities.

Freo could probably find a spot for him in their forward line as a replacement for Ballantyne. Would also allow them to use Walters in the middle a bit more often.

No one is trading for Buckley. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Carlton literally have the worst small forwards in the comp. If he could make it as a small forward he already would have.

Like he has any currency.

I think Trengrove is a solid option, if we lose Casboult.

Jimmae will lose his S&*^ if that rumour comes to fruition ;)
My issue with acquiring Trengrove is the salary, and the loss of compensation. If he's a DFA, I'm all ears.

Bucks wasn't getting the pill much in the seconds and that's what's disappointing to me.
Given how topsy turvy the NB's form was, he wound up playing fairly isolated as a deep defender (opposition tactics as much as anything), and he did pretty well to work past that.

In his limited chance at AFL level, he won the ball fairly easily and supported his team mates rebound, then pinged his hamstring. That brief opportunity to play in a settled team went well for him. Hell, we might even see him in the team this week depending on how things go. Still water under the bridge, and he's certainly not floundering in the VFL despite your claims.

Phillips back to full fitness might be an option.
Ah yup, I'm sure he'll turn back the clock to... the 2015 season??

Id rather have McVeigh running around for 4 or 5 games added with his leadership qualities and supposed coaching transition than someone like Smedts.
That's fair, but we're already in the position of having Smedts on the list, with a contract. We need to be more selective with our senior contracts than that. If he wants to come coach, fantastic.

Is it life or death if buckley goes, no but I wouldnt say he has been given a chance this year after playing well at the back end of 2016

If you can't get a game in one of the bottom 3 sides in the comp that's rebuilding (this goes for KJ too), then you're done.

Some of these trade scenarios I'm reading here...Graham for a 2nd? Boeky for a 2nd? Simon White involved in a trade to another Australian Football League team to play Australian Rules Football for money as a career?

Some of you guys are going to be in for a shock..

2 and 37 isn't ideal either. 2 on an 18 year old or on Kelly? What's better for our rebuild?

If Levi leaves and we don't touch Trengrove then we may have 2 picks in the 30s. Gibbs is our only currency

I was hoping we let Gibbs and Casboult go. Trade a future first for Kelly. Take 2 and Gibbs' pick(s) to the draft this year, trade another future first next year to get back into 2018 draft and line up FAs and Father/sons.

But people are precious about next year's draft pick :(

Letting Simmo retire so we can bring in McVeigh is a zero sum gain, possibly a loss. Same player except Simmo more courageous and has bled blue for many years. Pointless move.

Don't think Simpson will retire, he still has a lot to offer IMO.

I don't think it's any surprise that his kicking has let him down lately after a change in role has seen his running numbers sky rocket. Fatigue is effecting his disposal.

His level of play and the standard he sets is still pretty high.

Kennedy - 28 touches @ 87% TOG
Lloyd - 26 @ 86%
Parker - 25 @ 86%
Hannebery - 24.5 @ 81.5%
Heeney - 21.5 @ 86%
Newman - 21 @ 78%
Jones - 19.5 @ 84%
McVeigh - 18.5 @ 73%
Hewett - 18.5 @ 76%
Kieran Jack - 17.5 @ 77.5%
Mills - 17 @ 80.5%

He's a veteran playing a rotation role for them. And he's missed half the season with soft tissue injuries. I can't make it any clearer to you that he's in no position to take the heat off anyone, merely act as relief.

He should be at the bottom of a shortlist, not the top.

Slightly misleading - McVeigh had only 45%GT in the game he was injured.

He has averaged approx 83% GT in the last 4 weeks.

If you read our boards you need to take any talk of Trengove in context

Is a very very good shutdown defender. Hugely under rated as a shutdown chb in the league. Isn't a great rebounding back but great to pair with other rebounders.

As a 2nd ruck he is very good as well.

As a key forward he sucks.

Port supporters hate we play him there. We have lots of depth of key defenders.

If you want to play him as a Backman / ruck he is a super pick up. As a forward not so good.

As for any talk of salary cap tightness is bullshit lol. Just journos that hate port peddling shit for port hating readers.

We were apparently tight before signing monfries , before white , before paddy , before Dixon lol.

we've lost the salaries of schulz Carlile monfries and white plus extra 2 mil in cap plus port was one of only 2 teams with zero players with salaries tied to cap increases.

I've no doubt he's on the decline, but it's an extremely gentle slope.

As I've pointed out repeatedly now, the guy is actually doing more for the team in terms of effort out on the field than this time last year, or even at the start of the year. Oddly enough, it's showing up late in games.

This isn't the years catching up with him, it's plain old fatigue.

When the team has been moving the ball out of defence Simmo has called for the short pass - which was kicked to him.

He then waited, and waited, and waited........, then kicked a crapola 15 metre pass which didn't even make it to the intended recipient.

All his team mates have moved up the field - ball turns over = opposition goal.

Simmo has been a God at Carlton for years - but he has seriously hit the wall and looks like the game has gone past him.

Must.... Not..... Bite.... Ahhhh **** it!

I've been watching Dylan's disposal skills over the journey and I would say he's been actively seeking out other teams for years....

#toosoon?

A bit like SOS wanting Taylor Adams at Carlton - he kicks the ball to Carlton players better than the Carlton players do!!!

Hmm seems they don't care if he walks. I guess he has been good when I watch Port but I don't watch them often.
He's been a good defender and did well last year in ruck with Ryder and Lobbe unavailable. Hinkley has tried to make him a forward this year but he's wasted in front of goals and has no forward sense. A bit like the Jones story played backwards with the opposite effect. That and Port have been paying him $750k which is insane and way more than Casboult is looking for.

Trengrove won't cost us anything but salary and loss of Levi compo. We don't have a second rounder though so our first pick will be in the 30s.
If we trade with Port rather than go the FA path we'd keep the Levi compo pick.

rumour: Dylan Buckley has been activity looking for another team.
unhappy with lack of opportunity and most likely gone at end of year.

source: friend of his GF
Will find another team. Won't be any of the 17 other AFL Senior lists I am afraid to say. Perhaps a VFL team, a SANFL or WAFL team ...

Perhaps we could also recruit Toby Greene as that small defender we so desperately need.

After all, think of all those shots on goal he brilliantly managed to spoil when we played GWS this year!
