Add that to the fact that he has only just turned 22. He is 4-5 years off being at the peak of his powers and fits in perfectly with our target age demographic.

It's an absolute no brainer for me if we can get him at the right price (front loaded contract) and compensation (eg. Pick 3 and high teens first rounder).
Theres no such thing as a no brainer when it involves 2 first round picks imo .
Say SPS as the pick 3 and Cuningham at the later pick is what we are potentially giving up to get Kelly thats not a no brainer .

This is a very silly post. Are we never allowed to bring in top end talent because that is the 'old carlton way'?

Kelly fits the age demographics and SOS could deem him a much greater prospect than what we will acquire at pick 2. Personally, I see this as a brilliant opportunity if the price is right.
Price wont be right never is for a player of that age and quality imo .

So reading other boards apparently GWS have upped their offer to $800k over 2 years, while North is at $12 million over 9 years.
Not sure what Saints have offered.

The way i see it, GWS have gone the angle of 'we know you want to go back to Melbourne, but stay with us just 2 more years and help us win a premiership while on good money, then we'll trade you to a Melbourne club'.

North have gone the 'blockbuster' long term deal to try to finally land a big fish, they seem desperate to become relevant. High risk / high reward but if salary caps keep going up they could be getting a good deal later in Kelly's career.

I reckon we'll go the more standard, mutually beneficial offer of around $750k over 4-5 years...still very good coin for a 22 year old but enables him to increase his contract at the end of it when he's likely a better player and the cap may increase once again.

Plus rumours are he's got some connections with us eg SOS and ex-teammates and i'm sure he can see we are a team with better prospects than North and Saints.

Kelly is one of the few players in the league I would trade this years 1st rounder for, even if it was pick 1 or 2.
We are still getting an absolute gun young midfielder, without the risk of taking a player that may or may not turn out and I'd take Kelly ahead of all the top prospect in this years draft, it's not even close IMO, Kelly is such a complete footballer, ticks all the boxes you want in a young mid, can win his own footy, can also really run and carry the footy, skills are elite, hits the scoreboard and seems to be a very durable type player.

Would the Blues, consider 1st round this year, coupled with future 1st round next year, ideally we are an improving team, and therefore could be a mid round 1 pick. If Gibbs decides to be traded this year to Adelaide or Power, we may get a first round pick this year or next, which we could also use in a package to throw at GWS.

Just thoughts.

Agree he's a beauty which is why it will cost a bounty to obtain him . You'll need more than our first this year way more .

I would happily hand over pick 1 for Kelly this year. If it were an open draft and he was in it I would want is to draft him with pick one.

Next year's draft is looking monstrously good though. Hell of a lot of underage players playing in the champs. Most pundits are already calling it a super draft.

Another pair of twins likely to go pick one and two. 16 year olds who are 6 foot 8 tall already. The King twins, Google em.

Will Kelly be 23 next year? Born in Feb.

Like everyone else, I would like him at the Blues but don't want to overpay. Thriving at GWS with a lot of quality players seeing him run off with the ball outside. Gets to show the flair side of GWSs game.

Got to keep perspective on price we pay. Treloar for two picks inside 10 is just not great value. I'd want to pay our first rounder and that is it. Would rather let him go than be forced to pay two picks inside 10. Happy to pay 800-900k in salary terms so long as that doesn't offside other key players coming through.

He doesn't have Judd's brutishness to guarantee success at a new club. He has more skill than Judd but is not as hard or physical as him. At Carlton he will get a hard tag that might see him face a harder time.

If he comes at two valuable picks, I prefer Hopper who hasnt had that season yet that franks crazy value.

I trust SoS not to overpay based on his transactions so far.

I'm excited too, but Murphy, Gibbs and Ed aren't youthful players who are going to improve.

Our midfield is way off from just 1 gun player.

I reckon we keep our first for this year at all costs. Especially if we're in contention for LDU!

Casboult -> FA | pick #22 (band 3 compo) -> Carlton
Gibbs -> Adelaide | Pick #10 -> Carlton | McGovern -> WCE

Pick #10 + #22 + 2018 1st -> GWS | Kelly + Hopper -> Carlton

Pick #2 -> LDU

Next year's midfield:

Cripps, SPS, LDU, Kelly, Murphy, Hopper, Cuningham, Fisher, Ed Curnow

Now let's talk about having some serious depth...

Close, but WC won't give up their 1st for McGovern, they would want a little more
