Unless Mitchell wants to play for Carlton, I can't see us outbidding other clubs for him.

We'd likely lose out on 2 fronts: What we'd pay Mitchell and what we'd offer Sydney.

We sure could do with him though.
Completely agree. By the looks of it we're not going to overpay players, so i can't see us paying heaps for Mitchell.

Nat Southby seemed particularly confident that Mitchell would not be at Carlton

also... another of our rumour mongers... could have been Marc Shmurf 3 said he would be very suprised if he came to us.

maybe there is more back story
I have trust in MS3 but I believe Nat Southby's source to CFC was cut when Hughes left.

Her mail wasn't any good last year, but the year before she nailed it, coincidence I think not.

Watching Mitchell against the Crows I was quite impressed with his kicking in particular. He was hitting difficult targets on the chest quite a bite. So I'm not overly sure what the knock on his disposal is?

Also he really gets in hard at the ground ball. It would be great to have someone else like that. Cripps is the big bull in the contest, Mitchell is fast and hard. Good foil to eachother, which would help Murphy massively. Right now he's the quicker inside player when really he's more damaging running on the outside distributing.

Hughes or Rogers? And Rogers basically took out a full page spread in the papers 2 years ago signifying his intentions.

Just far less talent.
Peter Dean is a Carlton legend.
Peter presented me with my first premiership medal, he returned to his home club South Bendigo on a Sunday morning to present medals to a group of under 12's, after playing the day before, he was just a fantastic ambassador, just as an aside I wore 21, played off a wing but lacked the endurance or the class to do the number justice..........

Brisbane looking likely to get the priority pick it seems... I assume that leaves us with #6 now, unless it's a pick after the first round given to them..
End of 1st round pick and possibly won't really affect CFC if we trade this year's and next year's 2nd rounders to the Giants in exchange for a handful of players including Marchbank .

68% disposal efficiency.
We have plenty of them. He'll Sam Kerridge goes at 73%, Simon White 78% and Sam Rowe 82%
It's unfair to compare his disposal efficiency with White & Rowe. Both collect easier possessions in the back half with far less pressure than an inside mid.

Peter Dean was a star on and off the ground. Back in 95 I remember him handing out coffees and biscuits to all the folks who had been queuing for hours to get tickets.
Back in those days, we were regulars in the Social Club and he and Tony Lynn in particular became would catch up with us regularly and have a beer or two. Great times....

I want SOS to continue the strategy he started last year of well researched, well planned, well directed recruiting. He spent bargain prices at the trade table and got us reliable depth and a couple of nuggets of gold whilst bringing in talented youth.
My knock on recruiting Mitchell is that his recruitment may be a deviation from SOS's strategy. That and he had had two chances come out and say he wants to play for us and twice has chosen elsewhere.
If SOS can get Mitchell for a price that suits us both at the trade table and in terms of player payment and convince him to actually want to play for us I'd be stoked to have him.

Mitchell would be one of our best players, he's a good young player and good fit for us. Can't see Hawthorn having the currency to land both O'Meara and Mitchell. Not unless they sell the farm, including this years and next years future pick, they would really have to trade out and they might just yet.

Even if we don't get him, I would be making sure that who ever does pays well for them. Particularly if they are a club we are competing with for other players.

If Mitchell is an option then it may be difficult to keep our first round picks and get Marchbank.

I'd suggest Mitchell has been offered a modest contract like the one we offered Zach. So if we're not prepared to overpay on Zach, on what basis would we get into a bidding war for Tom, albeit he plays in the midfield...

too old, too slow, too expensive. Hit the draft.

Surely age doens't come into the equation for not trading for Mitchell, is 23 the new 50 or something ??

I'd suggest there is a lot more pressure with disposal pressure playing as a backman/back pocket player, i mean lets be honest here, a turnover by a defender is far more costly than a turnover from a midfield.
