True, but the quality is a little different here and without doing GWS too many favours in taking Marchbank, Tomlinson and Corr off their hands.

No doubt they could live without Stewart and Pickett is as much an unknown as let's say Ahern is....or Collingwoods' Scharenberg.

I dare you to take that to the GWS board.........I double dare you. :p
They have a board? Does the AFL employ people to write on it?

This is the AFL we are talking about... you know the only sporting organisation that makes it's own rules up as it goes along.
They will get pick 3 to go along with pick 2. Can't have * missing out on pick 1. See how giddy the AFL media were about Jobe today? Ain't no way pick 1 is going north.

Wow! This pick #5 is going to be a gun to end all guns :)

For pick #5 this year, we want a pick #6 back-man, a pick #9 who we've been keen on for a long time, a pick #14 young KPD, a pick #27............and throw in a first rounder with #17, all for good measure.

If SOS can pull the wool over GWS's eyes to this measure, we should erect a gold statue of him, before years end. :)

EDIT: .............. and a #4 Pickett as well, just for a little more fun.
Pity we don't have Lucas, Watson and Bootsma still on our list. We could throw them in.

Three low picks for the low picks we get from GWs, that should sweeten the deal because we all know how how good low picks always turn out.

Hell we could always sacrifice Jaksch as another low selection.

Further to this there is a difference between a players worth on the open market and what a player is worth to a club.

For example: Tuohy's market value might be about pick 25. But to Carlton he's worth pick 15.

So for Carlton it is not worth trading Tuohy, as they believe is of more value to keep at the club than what they could get for him*

What GWS value Marchank and the others at would be different to there market value. As they spent pick 6 and pick 4 (Marchbank and Pickett) they would probably value them higher internally, as they had to spend allot to get them. In the open market I'd say Marchbank would probably be around 20 and Pickett probably in the 30s, maybe even less. But because GWS paid such a price for them a short time ago they will be worth much more than that to them. So it is likely we will need to pay above market to get them.

If that made any sense at all to anyone :)

*they were made up values. I don't necessarily believe this is his worth to us or the general market.
Marchbank wanting out and selecting a club has a devaluing effect on GWS assessment of his worth. It remains to be seen how much that devaluing converts to.

Peter Dean was a star on and off the ground. Back in 95 I remember him handing out coffees and biscuits to all the folks who had been queuing for hours to get tickets.
Back in those days, we were regulars in the Social Club and he and Tony Lynn in particular became would catch up with us regularly and have a beer or two. Great times....
Is a ripper bloke. Was lucky enough to have beer with him at John Platten's pub back in the early 90s

So what you're saying that it's a fair deal? :

I have named the players that were raised elsewhere and if you don't know who those numbers relate to.........go have a look and get back to me. :)

The decision SOS ultimately makes regarding pick 5 will depend on a) who he is targeting and b) the intel he has on how the top 4 will go. I think he would have a reasonable idea of who the clubs are looking at and this is likely to sway his decision.

For example if the top 4 were to go something like this:
Pick #1 (assume GWS trade for this pick) - MCGRATH
Pick #2 (Brisbane) - BRODIE
Pick #3 (Fremantle) - AINSWORTH
Pick #4 (Gold Coast) - MCLUGGAGE (no bids so they take Bowes with a later pick)

Available at pick 5 would be the likes of SPS, Scrimshaw, Venables, English etc

However the top 4 could also look like this:
Pick #1 (assume GWS trade for this pick) - MCGRATH
Pick #2 (Brisbane) - AINSWORTH
Pick #3 (Fremantle) - SPS
Pick #4 (Gold Coast) - BOWES

This would then mean guys like Brodie and McLuggage would both still be available at pick 5

Fremantle really aren't that good and they've lost a lot of what they did have going for them.
Sandilands is unreliable at best.....Pavlich is done.....Ballantyne is gone.....Mundy is damaged.....Mayne is leaving....and if you're relying on Harley Bennell and Brad Hill.........

Brisbane? Can't see how they will be ahead of us, even with Beans coming back.
Gold Coast? Don't trust them nor their coach.
Essendon? We just don't know what will front up next year.
Richmond. I'd be very disappointed should we not be ahead of them next year.
Melbourne & St.Kilda: Unknowns for a lot of reasons.
North Melbourne: Can't see them holding up next year.

We may well finish last but anything lower than 12th would be a real disappointment for the club.
I find it hard to believe that we can all of a sudden leap frog Richmond, Melbourne, Saint Kilda and probably North in the space of 12 months, Richmond are one team that can easily reload and make the finals again next season for example (they have a pretty solid top 6 core of players)

The Good news is that we're pretty much setting up our backline for the future in good stead, which means the days of 80 plus blowouts are a thing of the past, but it all boils down to lack of decent midfield depth, speed, and of course, our impotent foward line (of sorts)

And now that Mr 'Boring' Roos has left, the Dees will be massive improvers next year, reckon they will make the eight, especially they'd want to go all Go to Whoa to try and keep Jesse Hogan at the Club.

Suspect we'll probably finish very similar to this season, somewhere between the 11th - 15th spot range on the ladder.

I suspect around 2018/19 is when we'll likely see significant improvement in terms of wins and ladder position, especially once the likes of Prince Charles and Hazza Mckay can get 40 games (touch wood) under their belt.

But it's really impossible to predict anything that will happen next year with any certainty, I'd like to think we will finish above Collingwood, despite what the experts say, their kids are crap bar Moore (De Goey is an absolute flop) and there's talk of them bringing in Chris Mayne and Daniel Wells lol

You really think Ainsworth will go top 3?

I thought it'd been generally accepted that he behind the top 4 and would fall to at least us, if not further.

Potentially pick 2 & 3 could go to Brisbane. Do they have any academy kids that are likely to go in top 10?

Thats a second round pick and a 10 spot down grade for Marchbank, Steele, Tomlinson, Pickett and Stewart.
Yep - I'd be asking for the world and seeing what we can get away with.

If they need Pick 5 as the final puzzle piece to ultimately secure Pick 1, there's a lot of value attached to it. I wouldn't expect them to give up all of that, but in a negotiation where you expect to get overs, you're best to start extreme and work your way back.

Excuse me? What? Hahaha, Rance, yeah, Riewoldt is an okay KPF and Dusty is good. But apart from that? Their list is pure garbage. Will be bottom 4 next year.

Jobe's ******* gap year... the campaigner wasn't on ******* holidays for 12 months. He was banned for taking a banned substance... despite everything that the AFL says... he is a ******* cheating wanker and needs to be stripped of his illegally won Brownlow and publicly humiliated while they are doing it.

I don't give a **** if it hurts the campaigners feelings... he shouldn't have ******* cheated in the first place!
