Your right working on pick 16 or 17

As in trading for that pick and using it to buy the 5 or getting it back from GWS?

Get a late first rounder for Tuohy somehow, 15/16 back from GWS and package them plus Everitt and Graham for #4 from Gold Coast.

Marchbank, Corr, Stewart, Pickett, Kennedy.

Rising 20y KPD - Former early draft pick. Probably GWS best 22 if not for injury.

22y KPD - Former 1st round draft pick. Good 2015. Behind Davis, Haynes, Marchbank and Patful.

22y KPF - Showed a little early. Miles away from seniors in 2016.

20y Midfielder/small forward. Early draft pick cruelled by injury.

24y small defender. Overlooked in his draft. Out of favour.

Seems our mids will be Hrovat and the spectre of Pickett.

So this is the 5 that we've deduced from barrass70's comments.? ie all could be fit by round 1, does that fit for Pickett does anyone know how his rehab is tracking? I would be happy to see Pickett involved as he seems to have a high ceiling.. shame Ahern isn't involved too...

Overall I like these guys.
We are rebuilding our list ans all of these are upgrades I think.
We all think we have too many talent issues re: Jones, Tutt, Whiley, Graham and Everitt types so we need to upgrade this pool of players.
It will take another 2 to 3 years to get us where we want.
I honestly don't think 1 player picked at 5 will improve us overall.

1. You need to look longer term
2. We don't know which players we will actually get if we do trade 5
3. The mooted Gibbs trade is nonsensical, we probably shouldn't worry about it (unless it happens)

No, you need to look longer term. What benefits us longer term:

pick #5 - gun midfielder or a bunch of fringe players?

Go ahead and answer that. Where are our young talented mids going to come from in the next 2-3 years? IF we don't trade away next year's 1st pick for 6 GWS players next year and IF we pick 1 midfielder up with it, it will take him 2-3 years to develop. By then Murphy and Gibbs will be finished and we will have who after Cripps? Kerridge?

We should have taken pick #5 to the draft and picked up the best mid available. Heck, we should've tried trading next year's first for pick #6 this year after GC get it from Richmond. That way we take #5 and #6 to the draft and pick up Brodie and Taranto/Scrimshaw.

That way we can actually develop a midfield over the next few years. That's long term planning. Not ****ing quick fixes with average players. Apart from Cripps we have no talented young mids. Zero.

How many of those 5 GWS players are talented young mids? None.

This year's draft is a midfielder's draft. With no early pick we will not get a quality mid. In 3 years time, Cripps will probably be burned out having to carry the midfield all that time.

Our backline is already solid enough. Rowe could be replaced down the track, JGM could make it. We don't really need Marchbank, certainly not for our top pick.

Our forward line needs work, but C.Curnow, Silvagni and McKay is a pretty good start, just need to give them a few years together.

But no midfield for years to come mate. I am thinking long term and without a midfield we are no chance of winning a flag.

Isn't Corr in that 5, and not McKenna?

I know people are skeptical, but Marchbank and Corr are probably worth Pick 5. This is a one time only opportunity to capitalise on GWS having to reduce list numbers and cap space and we're ballsy enough to take it. I've closely watched this year's draft pool and it's as deep as we've ever seen. History will be the judge, but I strongly believe this is a really good play and one that'll pay off big time. It'd be really easy to sit back and go 'Well, this didn't work before, let's play it safe." That's how mediocrity creeps in.

Pick up Powell-Pepper with 16/17. Ready to impact immediately. If we get both picks, Venables may slide that far or Gallucci.

Sumner could be wildcard don't think ever done pre season highly regarded
b70, any chance of my lucky numbers - birthdate 12/01/60. Thanks......

Sumner has midfield attributes. Great speed, good tackler, wins one on ones. His lack of accumulation is problematic. Maybe a proper pre-season might make him a wingman

If we get the 5 players and a pick in the teens back, we'll be laughing

Agree, if we get the 5 players that ODN hypothesized I think that alone for 5 would be worth it..just. Getting a pick back in the teens would be MASSIVE, as many have stated the draft is even between 5-20 we will still get a very good midfielder with that pick

Heaps of mids till pick 30

5 players can all play Bolton thinks all fit will be in team come round 1 hopefully it comes off it's very even draft pick 5-20 not much in it

If that was the case, why are GWS so keen on taking #5 from us? They have #7, #15 and #16 already.

From about 10-20 it evens up. But the top 7 or so are a clear cut above the rest.

GWS want to get ahead of academy bids so they get those and top end talent.

They may trade 5 and 7 for 1 as they want McGrath.

I don't see how anyone could be unhappy with this "5 for 5" deal...

It's fairly simple math really...

At draft, pick 5 gets you one very good young player.

GWS deal, pick 5 gets you five very good young players.

I'd say, it's a pretty amazing result if it eventuates....
