which rumour has legs Beo?
That most of the guys looking for a move are looking fairly and squarely at us (or us at them). I looked around a few different places today and all but a few (Prestia, for example) seem to be looking at us primarily and anyone else a long way 2nd.
I scratched my head. I know our list isn't that strong, and that we will probably make quite a few changes in the list, but does everyone want to come to us now?
I took it as a good sign: the idea of players wanting to put on a Navy Guernsey appeals to me. But so many this early?

According to my research, yes. I'd be gutted if we traded pick 5. According to Knightmare there's around 4 zone selections near the top 10 and if you swap 5 for 7 it may end up being more like 9.

With 4 of the players selected before us players we couldn't access ??? So we would be selecting from the same group of players .....

In order for that to come about, one needs to get a lot right.

1. Early interest in the player.
2. Excellent communication and follow up with the manager.
3. Respect and decency when communicating with rival clubs List Managers.
4. Selling of the new culture, club vision and role for that player.

Get those aspects right and it will come as no surprise that a players interest in our club will rise.

It's because we appear to be going places as opposed to some of the other clubs. A lot of player managers will also know that Essendon* doesn't trade fairly with other clubs and has a bit of a bullying attitude. Those same managers also know that SOS is damned good to deal with and will give value for money. And Carlton on a whole has a very good reputation in this area.

We were linked to Matera at the beginning of year, must want out of GC. but yet another small foward/mid.
We need genuine mids

Jarrod Pickett has the talent and skill. Reminds me a lot like yarran. If fitness is his issue, Neil Criag will be on his case no doubt.
He would be good off the Half back line breaking lines.

I like the idea of Pickett off the half back line. Apart from Buckley, we don't seem to have anyone who has the breakaway speed required to break lines.

Docherty goes O.K. and Byrne is no athletic slouch either.

Pickett may be good but you'd want a player that can pin-point passes coming out of the backline.
No point having a headless chook that runs fast and then turns the ball over.........not pointing the finger at anyone in particular. :)

It would sort of help if our forwards did something to assist that person you mention... like actually lead into space.

We certainly do have a good reputation at the trade table, we bend over and they go in dry :p

All I'm doing is giving bit of info can gives heaps more but this is my last post happy now???..BYE
It's pretty bad that someone who gives plenty of people on this board a bit of hope over the off season, feels so attacked that they feel force out. I know, and hope Barass70 realises, that this seems to bit of a mix up, but it seems like he has copped a fair bit of stick from some posters on this site.

This might scare people here but SOS got a lot of picks wrong.
Quite possibly, but there's also the fact that SOS had so many picks that he could afford to take both the obvious 'will be a 100 game player's as well as approach a few speculative picks.

Take for example Jeremy Cameron. The kid was a CHB as a junior, gets picked up as a seventeen year old, and within three years has a Coleman to his name. How many junior CHB's go on to do that? It could be that he was talented as hell, but the change of position could really have backfired.

I'm all for a bit of criticism and analysis, but if you're using GWS's failure to make zero mistakes as an example of SOS's list management then you're holding him to a higher standard than is possible.

Did Pickett suffer a Lisfranc injury? I'm actually 10 months into a recovery from a ruptured Lisfranc and I already know I wont be able to do anything remotely serious for a while longer, worse than an acl. Confidence in your foot disappears pretty fast as well. Swan put it nicely, ' It feels as though if I kick a footy my foot would explode again.'

Anyways, I wouldn't target someone who's had a Lisfranc injury... ever.

I can see it happening...Freo and Brisbane are less likely given they are interstate sides with different needs. Freo will surely take either SPS or Marshall. GC take Bowes and then we swoop on Brodie. Perfect!
If last years draft is anything to go by, I think it is extremely unlikely anyone will bid on Bowes in the first 3 picks, GC will take whatever talent they can get before he gets bid on.

Actually I can see them giving the bombers a very favourable trade for the first pick so they take away the benefit of the doubt. No way I see Bowes gone before our pick and that drops us one place back from what you are hoping for.

Misunderstood a post about the Whiteboard incident, thought it was having a go at him.

Pity
Think I single-handedly scared Eric Pascoe off due to a misfiring gag - some of these titbit merchants might wanna loosen up. If it ain't them there will always be someone else.

I'd be happy to trade pick 5 to GWS and get their later picks

5 + future 3rd rounder for Marchbank, Pickett, additional GWS players + 15, 17 + 33

GWS would then have picks 5, 7, 32 + future 3rd round

Would give us picks - 15, 17, 23, 33, 41, 48

then on trade the following
touhy + 41 + 48 -> north's first pick (11)
Kreuzer + 33 -> dogs first pick (12)
everitt + graham + 15+ 17 -> GCS pick 8 +21+22+ 27 + 40
23 + 27 + 40 -> future 1st round pick (port)
21 + 22 -> future 1st round pick (saints)

Net picks 8 + 11 + 12
2017 - 3 X first rounds

one can dream... :)

If we give up pick #5 for Marchbank and Pickett we're crazy.

Both of them under injury clouds. Marchbank has injured every part of his body already. Back, leg, ankle, shoulder. Only 19 years old.

Pickett has that Lisfranc fracture and is too up and down with his performances.

We either get a late first for Touhy and on-trade that or we try and get an additional second rounder for 2017 and offer that along with our 2017 second rounder for the both of them.

TBH, I'd just try and offer two 2017 2nd rounders for Marchbank and #15 (or whatever their first ends up being)

That's a huge gap in points considering that a 3rd rounder next year will add so little value to them for any academy scenario.

It's a 300-400 point difference using the DVI.
The benefit to GWS is having picks 5 + 7 and then remaining points to bid on academy if required. 3rd round next year is steak knives part of the deal and provided to give GWS future flexibility. Given the need to reduce list sizes + requirement to utilise picks, GWS are significantly better off having picks 5 + 7 than 7 + 15 + 17

Similarly, the GCS trade is weighted to reduce the number of outstanding picks that the GCS will have

can remember the brandon matera interest earlier in the year. seem to be chasing a few of these types.

buntine is a weird one but seems to fit our current m.o. - previous high draft pick with an injury history, though his not as bad as say, pickett. also a history of concussions which worries me. has taken ages to get going, at this stage of his career we probably most remember him for getting smashed by casboult once or twice, and being outrun by armfield near the boundary line. i can't say i'm too enthused but some of these guys picked high must have enough talent to play anywhere.
