Looking at the phantom draft and if there was a year for downgrading your first round pick, I reckon this is it.
I'm not really a draft follower and I get that this draft is supposed to be more even. I'm not totally against downgrading, but there still does seem to be a bit of cream in the top 5.

Jack is a fantastic player and would be a great leader in the forward line to bring on the young ones. Huge get if we did.
Would not mind getting Jack if we could somehow do it and keep #5. Think he could have another 100 games in him and he would be fantastic for the development of McKay, SOS and Curnow.

Not sure the tigers would like any of our fringe players, but the ones we have given them, excluding Yaz who was class, have so far proved good (Hampson is their main Ruck, Grigg has had years in their midfield, etc.). If the Tuohy trade and another fringe deal (or 3 way with Norf's) works then it would be good fir us.

We have not had a good full forward since Fev, and would love to watch a game where we can play the whole ground.

I agree - if a good deal comes about where we can pick up a talented young player and downgrade pick 5 to pick 10 or something, we would have to seriously consider it.

Would have to be a darn good player though.

Normally I'd so "no Richmond players! No way !"... But the heartache it would cause their supporters to see Jack in our colours would be priceless....

But isn't Jack a high half forward/winger?
That's how Richmond play him, idiots!
But I guess we could trial him at FF, see how he goes...

Definitely three tiers imo.

#1-7 Tier 1
#8-16/18 Tier 2
#19-35 Tier 3

Jack has been good enough to get the tuggers over the line all by himself on many occasions - when a lift is required he is the one that puts his hand up and delivers...we have this type of player in the backline in Simpson and we have this in midfield in Cripps and Murphy and Gibbs (sometimes) we haven't had this level of quality in a tall since Fev left in forward line.

My view (FWIW) is that we need 2-3 decent AFL quality mids ( NOT superstars ) to run alongside MCG AND a genuine A grade tall to lead the kids developing up front. There aren't many genuine A grade talls around - I'd pay the pick #5 without blinking if I had the inside view on how well SOJ/McKay/C.Curnow are really tracking - the better their prospects - the more important a Jack would be.

All the focus on Marchbank (whoever that bloke is ) is all very interesting - but will do absolutely NOTHING to help our side or kick 100 points a week. A genuine goal kicking take best two defenders and allow our youth to find space and develop forward is required.

"Marchbank has already been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, and Cameron said the young key defender would continue his rehabilitation with Steele, Jarrod Pickett (foot) and Paul Ahern (knee), the Giants' only other injured players"

Can I start a rumour that "LTI" at GWS means "Lets Trade It" (hopefully to Carlton)

I keep hearing that we need to build for the future. That it's all about the long term. Setting ourselves up to challenge in 4, 5, 6 years....

I'm getting on board with that. But then everyone is up in arms about recruiting real quality young players like Marchbank and JOM, (players who would be fantastic for us over the next decade)because they currently have injuries...

I'm a little confused. Are we worried about 2017 or the long term? Not sure we can have it both ways...

Package deal would be handy for our non-existing midfield depth

Perhaps the Dre/graham pick form GC?
Maybe but I'd prefer we try use that pick to get another in the first round.

Last year we traded 20 and 21 to the Dogs for 11; if we can engineer a similar trade again this year it could be a great result.

By the sounds of it picks between 11-25 would yield similar rated players

I think the more players with talent we get in the better

Don't worry about the doomsday keyboard warriors coach, after we land both of them they will call SOS the messiah!!

Agree...the culture at the club appears to changing..The learning environment spoken about a year or so ago looks like its forming..Kids are the answer here.Kids are the only answer..We are not in any position (in our current state) to bring JOM particularly in the backdrop of him failing medicals at two other clubs (St Kilda, Roos). Draft picks, or GWS past high draft picks that are not physically broken are the key to our future here. Defining physically broken is a fine line ...But two ACLs (Ahern) for me personally is considered broken.

This list took small steps forward last year. It needs to do the same again....But with a constant direct line of sight kept on our future. Carlton football club will once again become a destination club.

Daniel Mcstay rumoured to be wanting out of Brisbane. SOS has had talks with him "watch this space"

Also Tuohy been offered $550,000 a year from NMFC. 4 year offer is on the table.

#Bluemour

Yes we already know so said Greg 'venom' Denham on GuesSEN this morning.

You may be right - but the same could possibly have been said about last year's draft.

It all depends on how the club rates the players available.

Its still possibly that this idea netted us well below what 20 and 21 are worth, although we did get a future third rounder. This year its a stupid decision to trade 20 and 21 for 11 because one player at 20 or 21 is possibly going to worth the same as pick 11. As discussed earlier about their being 7 standouts at the top of the draft then the next 20 are quite even. We could get a Kerr and Gallucci at 20 and 21 as opposed to a Venables at 11

I mean who really wants to trade someone into the club who won't play for the year and them pay them $300,000+ to ride bikes and swim laps and then hope like hell they never get injured again
We picked up the great white ruck hope in Warnock.. and he did his foot at training in preseason 2009, and missed the entire season. If we did get Ahern, he wouldn't be on 300k+. He would be on minimum for the next 2 years and if he came good, give him a big bump and start playing him. Who knows... he could turn out like Daniel Menzel.
