1. Yeah, because drafting a gun at 13 is 100% guaranteed to happen.
2. Pretty sure we'd finish bottom 5 next year with Gibbs or without. And I'd prefer with rather than a pick 13 with no definite chance of being anywhere near Gibb's level.
3. Fyfe is a pipe dream at this stage. Even if the rumours are true now, who says that he would still be interested in 12 months and whether or not Fyfe would prefer to come to a team with Gibbs in it.

1. Pick 13 brings a lot of talent, Jack Reiwoldt, Cripps, Talia etc plus that talent is 18 not 28
2. I agree that we will likely finish bottom 5 with or without Gibbs, which is exactly why I'd rather do that with an 18 year old that may play 200 more games for us.
3. Yes Fyfe is a pipe dream, but there will be other free agents that we can scoop up with the extra cash.

I'm never going to be happy about discussing it, but you're absolutely right, this is a place where such things are discussed, so like it or not, there's not much I can do about it.... I just hope, if he isn't traded, we can move on from it, for at least twelve months...

Your question however is an interesting one... We all know who the genuinely "reliable posters" are. There's a handful that seem to get it right every time... I've seen two of them categorically state that Gibbs isn't going anywhere.

So I might ask you a similar question,...

How many reliable posters need to confirm that no such trade is happening, before we're prepared to move on from it?

I thinks there has been enough noise to warrant discussion. No disrespect to the couple of very solid posters that are regularly close to the mark.

Palmer is 27 and has slowing leg speed. Surely SOS doesn't want him no matter what.

If we did get Palmer I don't think it would be because we want him, but us taking him off the books and helping GWS reduce cap and list numbers would be conditions of the sweet sweet booty that they will give us.

Got 4 right other one is from left field can't give no more

I've been away a few days and only just seen this. Was there ever a consensus on who the extra player was?

Imho, as it stands with those 4, I really hope we don't give pick 5. Not worth it at all. The extra player better be bloody good.

Patton would be nice...

Palmer looked like he was trying to play a different sport in the prelim. I know it's hard to come up from the NEAFL for one game but I can't see why we'd be chasing him.

Would make sense from a salary dump point of view I suppose
I don`t think we would really be after him, but they could be saying take him to get the other 4 guys in a package deal....just a "left field" thought that`s all.

No consensus yet, but talk of Finlayson.

Carlton are in the second year of a 3 year rebuild. In 2018 Gibbs will be as important to Carlton as he would be to the Crows and he will be the same age as Eddie betts is now.

Gibbs at the crows this year would have been rated by the crows fans as equally important as Sloane. He may have even won the brownlow, so any suggestion that Gibbs is not similar value to Sloane should be scoffed at.
All this talk of us not being close to a premiership window. Who would have thought the WB two years ago, when they were a basketcase, would be on the brink of a premiership? They would not have won if they had simply traded away their senior players.
How does anyone really know when their premiership window is open?

barass said left field.

Field... Shield.... SHIEL!

Apparently the name Shiel derives from a an old English word meaning Shepherd's house (seriously).

Where would a shepherd's house be? In a field!

I guarantee you he is the fifth player! *

* warning: guarantee is not an actual guarantee...

Left field is Griffen.....

As dumb as it sounds it could work. You recruit a great spine while sacrificing the mids and as a result lose games and ladder position, ensuring better draft picks. Then just recruit, or, take through free agency mids and then start putting together wins.

Of course I still think you need mid talent around to help the young-lings and am dead set against trading Gibbs or losing pick 5.

Maybe it is "short man syndrome".

Bolts has to have the tallest team in the AFL??

I reckon we could do with a bit more excitement about Jarrod Pickett.

He's no steak knife and would provide that outside run we've been crying out for. No surprise Bolts is keen on him he'd make a slow team look quick just like my old boy Yarran.

I dare say he'd be a like for like pick up to using pick 5 on SPS?!

They did, Griffen wanted out, so they traded him to GWS with their first for Boyd. Turned out ok in their circumstances, but id be careful using the dogs as the premiership model. Whilst they were good and even across the park, they also broke a lot of records.

First to win from 7th since an 8 team finals series.
First to win 4 games in a finals series under the new model.
First team to win a flag without being top 4 since the new model (effective since 2000).
Lowest average games per player since 1997.

The point is there are things that suggest you are closer to a flag than others. The dogs managed to buck almost every trend to get theirs. Trends exist for a reason, and odds of it happening again are very low.

I don't have a problem with the trade for them #28 for the 4 of them was a fantastic deal. But for me, Sumner goes missing too often and for too long. Maybe a full pre-season will see him gain more consistency but he still needs to prove it.

As for Philips, he's 26 and Kreuzer is better than him in nearly every significant department. Philips is the type of player we can hang onto for now until we can find something better in a couple of years.

MK can't jump and can't hold a mark above his head.

He tries his heart out - but sadly a great ruckman he ain't.

Philips will at least be his equal in 2-3 years time.

Not sure many would agree with that last part because people overrate draft picks.

Am very excited at the prospect of Pickett if Bolts can push him to get the best out of himself and away from his rumoured lazy ways. Was a number 4 draft pick. That suggests extreme talent which hasn't been shown (and hasn't disappeared) due to an excessively strong GWS lineup and injury. People who call him steak knives either are overrating draft picks or haven't seen enough junior footy. Probably both. Plus these same people most likely haven't even seen him play except for his highlight videos.

Good post Bolton keen on aboriginal players one of main reasons why Andrew Walker will be welfare manager

I could see that being the case but the booty really needs some advancement for another class player outside of Marchbank for #5 handover. Pickett has too many ?? over the foot injury to be that player to bank on.

Re Palmer as the 5th:

- Yes, if it means providing cap relief for GWS and not trading pick #5

- No, if he's just the fifth player in exchange for pick #5
