Nowhere in particular just venting mate :), I do agree we should wait until all deals are done before we can judge.
One thing we know about SOS is that he's more than willing to be a creative player in the trade period and that he sees the value of high draft picks.

We've been given a snapshot about ONE potential trade (from a reliable source), it's highly likely SOS'll head**** us for a few days in the trade period before we can see the broader strategy at hand.

Sumner has midfield attributes. Great speed, good tackler, wins one on ones. His lack of accumulation is problematic. Maybe a proper pre-season might make him a wingman

This.
He and Plowman had no preseason. Sumner could no doubt go through the middle if he can build a tank.

Pick up Powell-Pepper with 16/17. Ready to impact immediately. If we get both picks, Venables may slide that far or Gallucci.
I reckon you'll pass out if we draft Venables.

i am old and get confused easily but in summary is this right?

pick 5 for marchbank and another 4 gws players and pick 15 or 16. if right i would be happy with that given comments about this being a very even top 20 or so in the draft.

Don't be short sighted. If those were 5 very good young players GWS wouldn't be offloading them so easily.
No one, including GWS management, knows which of the 5 are or aren't going to make it. I think they all may have good abilities and it's just a question of which players are going to realise their potential. I believe in the law of averages, and fingers crossed, hopefully at least 2 of them will.

I get the feeling that our fortunes are slowly turning and if this guy comes on it will be a huge win for us. I like his aggression too, doesn't back down as you stated he needs to get more ball but you'd think with a big improvement in fitness his numbers with increase.
IMO he won the game for us against Port with that chase down tackle in the forward 50 late in the 4th, everyone else was spent and he just chased as hard as anything, big mental toughness for a bloke that had zero preseason. I have no knowledge on the thoughts of Bolton but im sure its exactly why hes picked in the side each week and why he will continue to be picked, hes a straight out match winner.

Which makes sense. So, a team on the verge of a dynasty is going to pick up 3-4 top 15 draft picks this year.

Meanwhile, we are rebuilding and are looking to pick up maybe 1 top 15 draft pick?

Look I could be wrong and I hope I am but I just don't see how that 5 for pick #5 deal benefits us.

Barass saying they'll all play round 1 but I don't see how?

Surely we can't go into a game with 5 KPDs: Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Rowe and Corr

and then having another 5 KPP: C.Curnow, Silvagni, McKay, Stewart and Casboult in the forward line.

Add Kreuzer and Philips to that and we will be way too top heavy.

Pickett has a Lisfranc injury he'd be pretty lucky to play round 1.

Just because we trade for them doesn't mean that they have to play in the 1's... of course it would be great but we are also after depth. This deal gets us depth in the backline and consequently if everyone is fit, in the forward line too.

Sos isn't a KPP and personally I don't think CC is either.

Backs: Presumably Tuohy gone
Corr Marchbank Plowman
Simpson Doc Kennedy

Forwards
SOS WEITERS CHARLIE
STEWART MCKAY PICKETT

leaves Casboult and Rowe as KP depth

I don't see how anyone could be unhappy with this "5 for 5" deal...

It's fairly simple math really...

At draft, pick 5 gets you one very good young player.

GWS deal, pick 5 gets you five very good young players.

I'd say, it's a pretty amazing result if it eventuates....
Only two have to be long-term players if the trade is to be considered a success. It's not as if this is the last year we hit the draft either, still plenty of drafting to be done.

nope - not right at all. There is potentially one of GWS late first rounders back as well... :)

Holy snapping duckshite Batman. That is the mother of all trades. Gimme Gimme Gimme...

That to me is an unbelievably good trade though. Sorry to those advocates of keeping the 5 pick, but that trade is in the best interests of the carlton Football Club.

Add Barass said there may be other surprises too!!! I'm seriously hyped.

I just can't see Corr involved in this mix.
What situation would have come about, that GWS would not want to hold onto him and in particular after losing Marhcbank?

How could they have just given up on him already? Just doesn't make sense on face value, to me at least.

No, you need to look longer term. What benefits us longer term:

pick #5 - gun midfielder or a bunch of fringe players?

1. Marchbank isn't fringe
2. Pick 5 isn't a guaranteed gun. Every year there are top 10 busts. We're (apparently) getting Pickett who was #4 2 years ago.

I have no idea about how good the 5th picked player in this draft will be, or how good the 5 players from GWS will be. But, our list has major deficiencies. These will not be addressed by picking 1 player.

What SOS did last year to start addressing these deficiencies was brilliant (despite how poor the Menzel trade seemed to be before the GWS trade went through). We shouldn't have blind faith, but we probably should have some faith that he knows what he's doing.

disclaimer: my post was only based on what others have posted on this forum (Barass seemed to indicate the pick in return).

Ideal situation for me -> 5 + 24 -> GWS 5 + picks 15 + 16. That might be starting to get a bit greedy though :D

Now people are talking up Sumner as if how he performs affects this new deal. Typical damage control logic.

At any rate, if it must happen, I'd prefer Finlayson to Corr despite their respective positions they were drafted at.

Marchbank, Corr, Stewart, Pickett, Kennedy.

Rising 20y KPD - Former early draft pick. Probably GWS best 22 if not for injury.

22y KPD - Former 1st round draft pick. Good 2015. Behind Davis, Haynes, Marchbank and Patful.

22y KPF - Showed a little early. Miles away from seniors in 2016.

20y Midfielder/small forward. Early draft pick cruelled by injury.

24y small defender. Overlooked in his draft. Out of favour.

Seems our mids will be Hrovat and the spectre of Pickett.
Kennedy was originally drafted as a mid and moved into defence.

And just for the record, Kennedy was one of two names I picked way back when, the rumours that St Kilda was chasing Steele, as alternatives to Steele.

If Barrett, my other pick, is looking for a new home as reported, then we could also be into him as well.

The way i interpreted the barass70 post was that we were working on getting pick 16/17 for Touhy then trading that to GWS for those players instead of pick 5.

Now that would be a dream.....

I interpreted it as we'd turn Tuohy (or others) into multiple late picks worth the equivalent or more points to pick 16 (Which GWS currently hold) so they can bid on their academy players, and use pick 5 elsewhere. e.g. Pick 5 & a few 2nd/3rd/4th rounders for GWS 5 and pick 16.

Im not buying this pick back in the deal until i see it done . 5 players plus a ten pick downgrade from pick 5 . Doubt the afl honchos would let this one happen imo .
They are all junk (if we are talking in terms of where we need to get to) apart from Marchbank if the rumoured 5 are the ones we end up with, I don't know why people are talking themselves into being excited. The pick better be part of the deal.
