I think they are a better chance to win one in the next two years than anyone else to be honest.

I agree but my intuition tells me that they won't win. But I could be proven wrong. But the realistic prospect of them winning in the next two years is likely to cause Connors to advise Kelly to re sign for two years.

Blaine Boekhurst hasnt been offered anything as yet and that is fact.

Source- 1 of his closest family members
So many people post stuff with no sources at all. Its like they just come up with an idea in their head and then say they know someone or just post on here. Why not just say its what you think should happen instead of making up fake rumours? A guy on here said Boek will not be on the list next year. Unless you have spoken to Boekhurst directly how do you know this? I know for a fact Carlton are offering a year.
Fact. One of you is wrong.

Still Carlton.
Fact. One of you is wrong.
It is an absolute, undeniable fact that I am Blaine Boekhorst and I can confirm that I've been offered a 1 year deal, but I'm still debating as to whether or not I should stay, or go to North who have offered me 9 years.

Why?

This works out in our favour if we can get a mid 1st for him at the tail end of his career.

I love the romance of a single club player, but we need as many draft/trade assests as we can manufacture at this stage of the rebuild.

Compare this to say Murph retiring in a few of years with declining production in probably the last 18 months of his career. Which no 1 pick would we have gotten the most value from?

Gibbs (10 years 231 games) + pick 10 ish (hopefully 7-8 years + 150 games)

Vs

Murph (14 years + 300ish games)

I love Murphy and want him to be a 1 club 300 game player.

But Gibbs WANTING to go gives us the best of both worlds, especially since we held firm last year. We get access to another young gun (please sos) without pushing a club legend out the door, while showing how much we value Gibbs' contribution to the team. Which is the best possible outcome.

I wish we could exchange every 28-29 year old on our list for a 1st. Would be perfect for keeping the list ticking over with quality.
The club needs some good leaders some real substance in our old boys.
The only older players in the last few years i feel that have this are army simmo and kreuz.
I can't help it but feel murphs and gibbs are just going through the motions.
Strategically yes great to have trade assests but hopefully this new group of boys can give us some pride in the way that they represent our proud club.
I want us to produce some real club champions even if they were 2 club players ala gibson lake josh Kennedy sydney.
We need heroes not whipping boys.
Rant over.

Totally agree with you about needing more leadership. Although I think our leaders have been pretty good this year.

I think you are right about the younger guys having what it takes. Guys like Crippa and Doc are obvious, but I reckon Weitering and JSOS will also have it as they mature.

If Adelaide get a top 10 pick for lever they won't want to let it go for Gibbs. They would be a chance of getting D.Fogarty with that pick.

They might prefer to give us 2017 1st(15-18), 2018 1st(15-18) than give up top 10 pick. Also depends a lot on Gibbs contract and how much front loading it at Carlton helps Adelaide stay under salary cap for next 2 years.

Always difficult to work out exact value of a player at a particular age relative to draft picks. Then throw in a front loaded contract to add an extra complication.

Wonder if Sos has a formula or guide for the draft pick Carlton requires for using our salary cap?

This deal will be interesting.

Adelaide 2018 first may well hold more value than its 2017 first.
But if Gibbs wants out, I expect SOS to hold firm on the Lever pick.

See, someone like Bonar might still be there at #36 anyway. #17 is a reach for a kid with bad knee history.

I can see this happening and I'm worried it will:

Gibbs > Crows
#17+Wigg > Blues

#17 > GWS
Kennedy > Blues

Essentially losing Gibbs for Kennedy and Wigg and not improving our draft stance at all.

That would be disastrous and we may as well look at who will be available top 2-4 in next year's draft and maybe even the one after that look at who the top 5-7 will be...
That's Rogers' like ... Have a little more faith in SOS. Gibbs is contracted. We said no to Wigg last year, nothing's changed.

Why are we getting rid of Boekhurst?

He got 27 against Hawthorn and kicked 3 in an 83 point thrashing against Sydney.

Has got some serious speed and tricks.

Is there something we don't know about off field?

I'll be pissed if he goes, I feel he's like Pickett in that he's just on the boarder of exploding.
If he has value take it. Not a best 22 player.

One things for sure if Gibbs indeed wants to go again, we'll know exactly what the crows value him at or how much they want him.

They'll know we won't bend over until it's closer to or what we want. So really the equation is down to them.

I think we'll be ok to the movement if we get what we want as we have no second rounder and very little trading commodities worth a pinch of salt that we'd be willing to give up.

Having said that, I reckon Bwyce will be with us to the end.

Adelaide wouldn't meet our demands last year, what makes anyone confident they'll acquiesce now?

pick 14-17 is entirely reasonable for a 28 year old. He's no Greg Williams.
Top 40 in the AFL ratings, our best midfielder, match winner, 5yrs left, anyone who says pick 16-18 is worth it has rocks in their head.

Adelaide meet our demands or they go without. It is that simple.

They can start with the Lever pick.

That really depends on where we rate them and how we see the order possibly falling. We could feasibly get a top 5 player in our rankings at #9.
Yep. Top 4 are pretty much Rayner, Dow, Cerra and LDU.

After that there's Stephenson, D.Fogarty, Higgins, Constable and Brander.

One of those 5 could easily end up with us at #9. They won't be there at #14 though.
