Harley Balic's stats at the start of the year in the WAFL before playing 1's and then going on leave

Rd1 v East Perth 30 disposals: 16 kick 14 handballs 2 marks
Rd2 v East Fremantle 33 disposals: 17 kicks 16 handballs 1 mark 1 goal 1 behind
Rd3 v South Fremantle 29 disposals: 18 kick 11 handballs 11 marks

Promoted to the 1's, then on leave.
Came back and played Rd 16...after extended leave, and still had a great game...

Rd16 v West Perth 25 disposals 16 kicks 9 handballs 10 marks 1 goal

Hunts his own ball and goes in hard.
Please do not compare to Boakhurst (who we should keep), he would be a great get.
Correct, the previous season off his LTI, Freo played a man down in Peel seconds to qualify him
for WAFL finals on two occasions and a cameo 1 possession game before a fairly dominant return
and subsequent integral role in Peel's WAFL Premiership campaign.

"Ross the Boss" fast tracked the young player in to his team this year. Prior to the later half of
this season Lyon was loathe to play the kids, with many having to serve a two year apprenticeship
despite some dominant WAFL form. Balic was afforded early opportunities not given to his young
peers.

Read between the lines people, easily worth a 2nd rounder. We can hopefully get for a late pick or
Boeky trade. Too many on here form opinions based on whims rather than fact.

My biased opinion: There has been a flood of "mail", or intel, that has been released in the football community in the last few days to the effect that "kelly is now staying". If he doesn't announce he is staying before Thursday then I say that his manager (perhaps even in conjunction with cfc) are deliberately leaking misleading info that Kelly is staying. discuss.

I agree if he is staying, why hasn't he signed? Doesn't make sense

Smoke and mirrors

Edit. The only reason is obviously the eve of the finals if they win maybe he announces it next week

So, do you really think I'm banking on an 18 year old kid taken at pick #9 to have an impact next year? Where do you get this nonsense from?
We're not building to have a tilt at the flag next year B_F.
I suggest we're following the Melbourne model by getting as much young talent into the club, without getting rid of our older players. If Gibbs requests a trade, there's not much we can do about it. It's SOS' job to get the best possible deal for Gibbs, and if he cannot then Gibbs plays out his next 2 years with us.

If somehow we managed to pull off Lever for Gibbs we'd surely have the best defence of the next 10 years sorted

Marchbank - Weitering - Plowman

Byrne - Lever - Williamson

Not to mention Macreadie still developing and looking good already, Docherty no doubt will roll from HB/midfield. The beauty of that defence is all of them can play 1 v 1 but they can all also play as loose and intercept. It wouldn't matter if we didn't score 100 for the next 5 seasons with that defence!

Worth noting that I don't think we'll get Lever, a young star KPD for a middle aged star midfielder aren't a match, however I'm getting excited with the thought!

That's pretty poor practice by the club if true and I'd be rather upset with us for doing that.

The manager/agent can do whatever they view is in the best interest of the player, but if I knew that Carlton had been doing it I wouldn't be happy. The days of us doing business like that were gone I thought.

If we are after someone who can step straight into Gibbs shoes if he leaves, then surely we are looking at Rockcliff?
Cost no draft picks.
Then use whatever pick/s we end up getting for Gibbs on kids in the draft.
By the time we are contending, Rockcliff will be about done, and the kids we picked up will be cherry ripe to go.
Be like Gibbs never left, but we reap the rewards from his pick/s.
Makes sense.
Especially now that Casboult is staying and we don't have to worry about any compo being diluted.

Reading through the thread of late there are a lot of antagonistic and dismissive posts towards other opinions. Let's face it, nobody here is a recruiting manager so definitely arguing about possible trades and exactly where someone is going in the draft is pointless.

Articulate your arguments and respect the right others have to put their ideas forward. A forum works best if people are encouraged to post and nobody is trying to act more informed or superior.

I'm not concerned about losing Gibbs, If we can nab M.Kennedy and take Pick 3 and the Gibbs pick to the draft we will more than cover his loss in the long term. I think M.Kennedy alone will cover off Gibbs with a year or 2 in the system.
Add Balic and our youth is looking pretty tasty
In: m kennedy, pick 3, pick 9, Balic

that is an obvious answer but it seemed like he wanted out to get more playing time, and then bang.........he stays!!! Kelly I understand because it was talked about him being torn between coming home and flags, but Hopper was not discussed in the same way.............anyway keep pick 3 and try for Rayner I guess.

Top 40 in the AFL ratings, our best midfielder, match winner, 5yrs left, anyone who says pick 16-18 is worth it has rocks in their head.

Adelaide meet our demands or they go without. It is that simple.

They can start with the Lever pick.

I said the same thing over the weekend. Assuming Lever goes to Melbourne, the crows can forward that pick and change to us for Gibbs.

Actually think if pick 9 is offered this time around, SOS will take it and then step away. Pick 9 may take time as we will need to watch Melbourne and Adelaide go back and forth. I expect gibbs to not get there until the final day of the trade period. Which is ok as id prefer we take that pick to the draft

Not a rumour but a summary of a boozy conversation my brother in law had at a recent function. He asked Ricciuto about Lever (paraphrasing)... we're not paying $800k plus for marking HBF...he wants to get back to Vic and extract maximum dollars...The Dees?...he's not fussed, it will cost them their 1st rounder...Dogs, Stk, Collingwood, Carlton?...It would make the Gibbs deal less complicated...

I agree thats an accurate assement, both Gibbs and Ablett transactions will delay and slow things down, plenty of sentiment for everyone, there'll be anguish it's understandable and plenty of media coverage untill final day.

Pretty obvious I would have thought...
