Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for the best. But he has clear physical limitations. Has demonstrated that he has the smarts to overcome them to a significant degree (e.g. gets to the right places quicker than some despite lacking speed).

Reckon he's tracking beautifully.

See, I think he's already gotten himself quite ripped through his core, and we might see him pick up his conditioning and running work this pre-season.

If that jumps up a notch, he'll be a different player.

Lever is clearly more valuable than Gibbs.
A significant factor in the valuations is their respective ages, but Lever is a very exciting player. He has shown more than our young tall defenders (who are also exciting in their own right).

The "value" of a player to a specific club does necessarily correlate the "quality/output" of the player.

So player A who is in the peak of his career can be valued much more highly by a club that is

currently top 6,
has a shortage in that position
is trying to entice a player to break his contract
persuade the club he is contracted to let him go

than a club who is bottom 4

So all this talk of player A is worth more than player B is largely a complete waste of time.

That Gibbs/Lever/Stringer post in the rumour file is bullshit, I thought that up and posted it in the stringer thread.

There seems to be a few here in the know re Stringers personality and sounds like one to steer clear of.

Kind of agree TBH. I really do think that some supporters think he is guaranteed to be a 200+ gamer just because Silvagni is his last name. I agree he also has limitations.

Was it MS3 or Barras that said SOS was a monster ?
I wanna hear about his monstrosity.
Give me runours that will make us revere the beast that is SOS
Wouldn't suprise me. I hear he is a prick and a half, no time for the common folk. Ruthless is another way I would describe him, just what we need running the show. Nobody is walking all over him.

Happy to be corrected, but wasn't it reported that Lever had ruled out going to the Dogs? If true, how would the reported 3 way deal be brought up as a rumour now?

As for Stringer, I prefer we look at other options
If Kelly isnt coming i agree Raynor would be a good option other than Stringer :D

Strictly my former basketball scout opinion here... Jack, unfortunately, lacks two things pivotal to becoming a high quality player at the AFL level. One of those things is correctable and the other much less so. The correctable thing is that he is simply not strong enough. You can gain strength. This usually comes at a cost of a slight decrease in speed. The problem here is that Jack, for his size, is not fast. In fact, I'd suggest that he's already slower than average. Yes, you can increase your speed slightly but you're either born with it or you're not. Jack wasn't born with it. At 191cm he's not tall enough to be a KPF and so his speed deficiency will always count against him.

The skill issue plaguing him right now is that his kicking is substandard. He misses too many gettable shots. I'm willing to mark this down as a lack of confidence that can be improved upon. When he first arrived to the club he was a beautiful user of the ball compared to his age. This was one of the trademarks that gave me confidence that he'd become a player despite his physical weaknesses.

From a performance perspective, there have been multiple times where his performances haven't been anywhere close to the standard required. When he has a poor game you're playing a man down. Young players are inconsistent enough as it is and that's an acceptable part of growing pains but if most players (including youngsters) are having an off game they find a way to do something that contributes to the overall team performance. Jack goes missing to the point where a search rescue team couldn't find him.

The problem that some fans have, and I'll include myself here, is that all of our young kids have had to really earn the games that they've played. I don't see anyone being gifted games except you can accuse the MC of gifting Jack games. When we were crying out for a key forward to get a game it took three quarters of the season before they gave Harry McKay (or Pat Kerr) an opportunity in the team. I've seen more promising signs from Harry in his two games than I had in most of Jack's. A legitimate case can be made that Jack was given opportunity after opportunity when other young players were languishing in the VFL.

When McKay was finally given his opportunity which player was it that was forced to move to an unnatural position? Jack. Consequentially, there's evidence that the coaching staff hold similar lines of thought.

Interesting perspective.

Love watching Jack play. Some of it has to do with the sentimentality of it all. I have to say, as bad as I feel about it for thinking it, I find it hard to argue against the point that he has been given more leeway compared to other players.

In terms of his speed: He looked slower to me in the second half of the season. Maybe it was affected by some leg/groin injury (separate to his shoulder prob)? Maybe it was tiredness? I do remember him chasing down opponents in the early part of the season and to my eyes his speed, while not blistering, looked ok then.

I really want him to do well. I hope he can have a big pre-season and come back firing.

18 year old kid who looked right at home in our best 22 until he hit the rookie wall (which they all do) looked like a surefire part of our future premiership leadership group for a headcase who may have already peaked? Pass.

IF the Dogs are serious about trading Stringer and Stringer's serious about needing a fresh start some place else then I see him being traded out of Victoria.

I'll call this now.

To Geelong: Gary Ablett Jr
To Gold Coast: Jake Stringer
To Bulldogs: Picks 20 (originally our 2nd rounder) & 22 (originally Fremantle's 2nd round pick) + something else from Geelong

From Geelong: Pick 20 + whatever that something else is

From Gold Coast: GAJ + pick 22

From Dogs: Stringer
Stringet wont leave Vic. Has young kids. No way he agrees to a trade. Nor should he be asked to.

Fisher is too small, SPS is too slow and small, McKay is too skinny..they're kids. There is absolutely nothing which Silvagni has shown that has said to me he won't be a gun forward.

Smart, Good mark, Competitive, tackles hard, good goal sense. Has all the tools

Think it was Marc Shmurf 3 in regards to SOS and a potential Kelly trade after J Brown spilled the beans.

Thats around when his marriage imploded wasnt it? I mean, that has to have an effect on him. Especially with two young kids and being forced to be away from them.

Yep, hell hath no fury as a woman scorned. Kids involved too which is pretty hard to deal with.

Unless that's sorted he'll never be the same

"Bulldogs are more the driving force behind wanting to trade him, more than Stringer wanting to leave "

Jake Niall

(also said if it happens , it will be to a Melb club)

May have these er qualities but when I have seen him at VFL games his is happily chatting to punters and I was speaking to a cafe owner in Carlton last year, who said SOS was in there most mornings and was a quiet shy sort of bloke, but very polite, and considerate. Then again a bit of white line fever might apply to his professional persona.
