Barass70 came out and said dont believe the hype Kelly was never going. Seems like another Tom Mitchell situation in that he was never coming to us, just using us as leverage to up his price. I suspect SOS has cottoned on to that if that is the word coming from Barass70. Worries me not. Id rather go to the draft twice over 2 years than risk it on 1 player with a huge amount of cash that might do an unsuspected injury at any time. If you want to look at it like the stock market, I would prefered a diversified portfolio than having too much invested in a single player. Who knows, we might uncover the next Josh Kelly in the process. Our recruiting has been A+ since SOS came, I dont suspect that will change in the next few years, especially from a position of pick 3. Would be very difficult to get that wrong.

The playing list don't get veto rights on recruitment of players, that's entirely up to SOS as list manager.

If Rockliff shows enough maturity in an interview that the List Manager feels he can fit into the existing hierarchy, then an offer will be made. If his character doesn't gel, he won't. Simple.

I disagree in this instance. The rumours surrounding the culture that existed up there are particularly worrying. Forcing first year players to drink their own urine etc. If these things are in fact true, with Docherty up there at the time I would expect that SOS would be having a chat to doc re: Rockliff. Maybe all the rumours are complete BS and Docherty would be happy for him to be recruited, but some bullying tactics are hard to get over and if we are to build a united culture out there we shouldn't be recruiting potential hand grenade without discussing it with those who have first hand knowledge first.

Got to draft with 3, 10, 38, 40, 56, 74 plus some other picks between 40-60 that SOS will to some deals for. Between 6-8 players in ND and 3-4 rookies.

Feels like an "ideal world" scenario where every trade gets us maximum return. Think it'd be more like to be:

Kennedy, Smith and (Griffen?) for Pick 38 and 2018 second rounder (Kennedy is worth the second rounder alone, Devon Smith for 38 is the trade-off for taking Griffen).

Balic for 74 (better to keep Boekhorst, he showed some promise late in the year and will be better than whatever we get at 74 this year).

Lang for 56 (he's no Rhys Palmer, we're not getting him for 135, an early fourth rounder is a good deal).

Pick 10 for Gibbs OR Picks 17 and 35 for Gibbs (one or the other here, top 10 pick alone or late first and change, it's that or he stays).

Pick 3 goes to the draft unless the trade-down scenario happens. Then it's either Pick 10 or Picks 17 and 35. We'd prefer the former, I think the latter is more likely.

Don't think this is the year to take a bunch of late picks into the draft.

I would be amazed if Murphy & Doc were not consulted.
A list managers job is to ensure any potential recruit is of good character and has a team first ethos. Doc especially would be the perfect person to ask.

Whilst I like the outcomes here, not one of these are even close to being realistic.

Asking Docherty to share his first-hand experience is very different to asking Docherty if he's OK with us recruiting someone. Very different.

I expect if it was as bad as is being suggested that most list managers in the competition would already be aware of it - given the exodus from Brisbane that sort of detail would spread throughout club-land in weeks if not days.

It's not up to our players to make decisions on who the club recruits. We have a list manager getting paid good money to make those determinations, factoring in age, ability, character, cost, and minus the emotion.

Surely we don't get stringer. His just so injury prone tweaks a hammy doing jogs.
I'd happily take Tom Boyd though.

In fairness Stringer has been barely injured in 5 seasons, he just has happen to be injured twice this year, first with a knee then later on in the year with a hamstring. Not quite sure that is injury prone.

I change my mind almost daily but ATM I'm really hoping we only target Kennedy. If we could get Kennedy for our future second rounder and hopefully pick up Rayner with 3 then I would be bloody happy. That should add two best 22 players to our side next year along with Curnow and Cripps.
We could do a lot of other trades but I think that would just be trading for the sake of it. Also after getting Williamson and Macreadie last season I'd prefer SOS to back him self in the draft.
