Sorry pants - ther'es no badge for carlton board cherry popping
Turns out it was a lie anyway, have posted here before a few times.

Gaff worth 5-10?

Don't think so - he's a top shelf role player but he adds to a team rather than forming a core part of it. Pick 12-15 would be the range I would think, though depending on your ladder position you may get better compo by letting him go as a free agent.

Assuming you slide out of the 8 and launch a mini-rebuild of sorts (focus on youth without going all-out napalm on the playing list, two years of targeting the first round of the draft), if you could lose Gaff but go into a draft with Pick 8 and 9 you'd have to think that was about right. Nobody is giving up Pick 7 or higher for Gaff unless you're sweetening the deal. If you're still finishing top 4 I'm not sure Gaff jumps ship anyway.
Well we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Gaff, 2017 1st and 2018 1st.

Would Cripps be on the next flight to Perth?

Edit: Before you reactionary scoffing... consider that Danger was traded for a 1st+2nd+Fringe Player.

Not sure why Gaff being restricted next year makes a difference, we'd match any bid on him. He is close to if not the best winger in the comp and is worth 5-10 himself maybe more. Depends on needs I guess. I'd value that deal as say pick 7 and 13.

It's all hypothetical and I've basically used the made up rumour as a chance to pop my Carlton board cherry.
Consider your cherry popped.

Of course WC would want Cripps - and will want him more in a couple of years when Clubs get the first chance to try and pry him loose. You will also be hunting for SPS in a couple of years and maybe even Charlie Curnow along with every other Club - good luck.

Uncontacted Cripps value is on par with the Adam Treloar trade, and the hypothetical Kelly trades.
Contracted us a completely different story and really not worth entertaining.
However there will come a time when Cripps is un contracted and the WA teams will come a knocking.

deity on a bicycle - more of this treating draft picks as a crypto currency.

Reduced to debating whether Gaff is pick 7 or 12...

doesn't work that way in a barter system.

the only thing you can say - He's in contract - Cripps would need to want to be traded and the deal would have to be tasty enough for us to bite.

That's all you can say about a horseshit rumor.

Can you stop taking all the good WA talent.

Stop letting us.

You could have had Boekhorst, but you blew it.
You can keep him.

Ok - don't know whether I've ever asked this -

you're from an English family, went to school in Melbourne, now live in Sydney - and go for West Coast.

HTF does that work?
Gather round children,

I'm a whore. But no, seriously, England to Perth (started following Eagles) to Wagga Wagga to Melbourne to Sydney.

Save your picks, mate. I have a feeling you're going to need them.

Also, why does Gaff's name always come up as possible trade bait from West Coast supporters?

*Assuming Carlton 2018 2nd is ~pick22 and WCE 2018 1st is ~pick10

Cripps + 2018 2nd (~22) FOR Gaff + 13 + 2018 1st (~10)
Surely we're in the ballpark?

Edit: It would be similar to the Dangerfield trade, except Gaff in place of Gore. Obviously a much better deal, due to Cripps' age and contract status.

Cripps will make a great captain/vice-captain at this football club for the next 10 years.

He and Byrne are inseparable.

Unbelievable work ethic, determination and character.

Thanks Rogers.
Can you imagine the membership numbers should SOS have an 'episode' and put Cripps on the table?

We could sell of Gibbs & Murphy with next to no hit to club morale. Sell Cripps and we'll feel it.

Probably about what it would take in a real world scenario, but I scoff simply because I'm not letting him go.

Can't use Danger as a yard stick because Cats and Crows came to an agreement. Geelong don't have to offer crazy dollars, Crows don't have to match to force trade, Crows don't have to accept single pick for AFL compo if they don't match and Cats don't have to trade at full value, which would have been 2 x 1sts as a minimum.

Even using Danger as a yard stick, we're giving up 6+Gaff as opposed to 6+Gore. Pretty noticeable difference imo.

Assuming Gaff is worth between picks 10-13, Gaff+6 ends up being worth a little over pick 1.

The trade would boil down to Pick 1 (equiv) for P.Cripps.
