Neither is Cripps.

Your move.
I'll throw in a hug.
Props to the WC supporters in the thread. I feel like they are putting up an effort, staying pretty reasonable and trying to be objective as possible. Understandably, us Blues fans are getting a bit hot under the collar just discussing the possibility.

The problem is I don't think there is a compromise point. Patty's worth to the club is huge; not only the best(ish) inside mid in the league, but basically a one-man grunt squad for our midfield. Even if the offering was better than Dangerfield/Treloar trades, we'd probably end up going backwards. We'd just about want 3 first rounders, but of course no club would pay three first rounders - not for Patty or anyone else.

It's like if a club offered picks 1 and 6 for GC's Tom Lynch. That kind of consideration is massive, but unlikely you can replace the best young KPF even with that bounty. Unless you somehow landed Loukoumadesaredelicious or whatever his name is in next year's draft.

Basically Cripps is worth more than anyone would pay for him. Anything less than his 'true' value, and we just say no. If he was out of contract, I think we would end up accepting something along the lines of what WC supporters are offering; two shiny-ish picks or a very good player and one shiny pick.
Its been a fun time.

I dunno. I think if they offered us a combination of good picks & a player (and if Cripps agreed) SOS would trade him.
I don't want him to go, but being from WA you can bet that this wont be the first time either WCE or Freo come calling.
WCE might make us an offer too go to refuse seeing as though they have just lost Priddis & Mitchell.
One point to remember about Cripps is he was born in Canberra and grew up 477km's from Perth, it's not like he is a local to the Western Aus clubs. To get from Northhampton to Perth is almost 5hrs by bus and plain, just over 6 to Sydney. Why would he choose Perth over the greatest city in the world?

Unfortunately (for West Coast) I think you've hit the nail on the head. This trade has ZERO chance of happening while Cripps is contracted and happy.

You could definitely be correct, the numbers might be complete garbage.
But some pretty wise heads have put them together based on # of games expected from each pick.
However, there are many examples of clubs agreeing with them.

Importantly these trades don't have a player included with a notional value attributed to him.

These exampleas are part if a calibration exercise to validate the attribution if points values to a draft pick for use in F/s budding. Nothing more.

Absolutely, so we as humans have to subjectively decide what pick a player is worth.
Out of curiousity, what pick do you think Gaff is worth? (For a straight swap)

The idea of trading Cripps does not in and of itself upset me.

What grinds my gears is people using pick values as a form of currency. It's a barter system where relative value is king (and an element of leverage )- not notions of absolute value/player "worth" etc

I personally would have no real interest in Gaff so therefore would not place a value on his acquisition.

However should the club decide Gaff us a valid target I would expect a determination around what assets we would be prepared to expend to acquire him - rather than a notional pick value.

Actually it's not - that's a simplistic base approach beloved by low brow talk back radio/tv pundits. The type that don't have the talent or cojones to do this for real.

But are quite happy to get paid like a surgeon for parroting the view that Jake Stringer is "worth a late first round pick"

Yeah but even if the flight from Melb to Perth is only 2.5 hours, he still has to get to Northhampton from Perth Airport ...

I'm so invested in this reset that if Cripps were traded I would quit following AFL.

He is the embodiment of the reset, like Embiid is the manifestation of The Process.
Please refrain from using Cripps and a guy who can't stay on the court, in the same sentence. Please!

P.S. the process is overrated. Won't even be better than the lakers

Cripps rumours are only around because West Coasts midfield is shot and naturally the first thing people think is West Coast need blue chip midfielders, will always try to bring WA boys home and Cripps ticks those boxes. Based on nothing than that logic alone but wont happen as Cripps is loyal to the bone. Stupid rumour based around a stupid club who is in a lot of trouble for many, many years due to bad drafting and trading. As a Perth boy who supports an ES club and has always had to put up with unreasonably bias supporters and media I for one welcome their demise and will enjoy the next 5 years as we move up the ladder and have sustained success whilst they start from scratch. By the time anything happens Kennedy will have retired. Nice try. No flags for you. Rejoice! Rejoice I say!

Hey Blue friends,

I've read on BigFooty (this board) that Eagles are into Cripps so obviously it's true and 100% happening.

What would he cost? I'll give you 2017 + 2018 first rounder.
Sounds about right. I like Cripps, but if we're being realistic, this is probably what he's worth on output so far. However, Carlton might value him more than that given the rebuild situation and contract status.
In this case, I think Carlton will knock back any offer Eagles will have.

Cripps going back to WA??? No chance...

Loves Melbourne, set up now. Once they settle in Melbourne, they only want to go back for a holiday or to the farm. It's another world over there. For those who have heard the stories, JK was absolutely devastated when traded back to WA, he just didn't want to leave and always held out hope to come back to Melbourne but the money was too great to resist in the end...
