This absolutely. Would be good if Gibbs goes, even better if he stays.
If that happens we're only a forward or two form being a serious top 8 team.

With the extra years development in our already stout defence and a midfield rotation including Murphy, Rockliff, Gibbs, Cripps, Curnow(s?) and Kreuzer we could beat anyone. Also add Docherty as he indicated he could be getting more midfield minutes a few weeks ago.

Just need a forward or two and we're looking out the other side of this rebuild.

Rumour has it this is a bloody good lineup

FB: Plowman Marchbank Weitering
HB: Byrne Jones Docherty
R: Kreuzer Cripps Gibbs
C: Murphy E.Curnow SPS
HF: Rockliff Casboult C.Curnow
FF: Pickett McKay Silvagni

Int: Simpson, Kennedy, Cuningham, Wright

Depth: Fisher, ASOS, Rowe, Lamb, Thomas, Pick #3, Boekhurst, Williamson etc etc

I can tell you now Fisher will not be a depth player.

When #3, Fisher and Williamson are depth, you are doing pretty well.
My first instinct on reading this was "they won't be depth players, they're starting 22 easy" but on looking at the starting line-up I couldn't displace anyone for them.

Depending on who pick#3 is I'd like to think they'd get in the line-up, though. But again I can't find anyone to come out for him.

Indeed.

Ive been screaming out for another KPF to develop with McKay (I dont like how our KPF eggs are in one basket at present) to go with another half a dozen mids (and a ruckman). From a youth perspective, I'm happy with our defensive stocks, and we have an inside bull in Cripps, class in SPS and a few decent medium and small forwards (Curnow, SOS, Pickett).

I dont really want to get the mids, then after we find half a dozen, then draft in a KPF. KPF take time (2-5 years) to come good normally, and by the time we draft one, and he comes good, our current side is nearing needing replacing.

I dont mind not drafting a KPF if there isnt one available (I dont want us reaching in the draft), but if thats the case, an established KPF like Lynch, Patton or Cameron shoud be high on our list of F/A targets over the next 2 years.

To show the importance of goal kickers, here is the Coleman leaderboard this year:

1. Lance Franklin (Sydney) — 69
2. Josh Kennedy (West Coast) — 65

3. Ben Brown (North Melbourne) — 63
4. Joe Daniher (Essendon) — 62
5. Jack Riewoldt (Richmond) — 50
6. Eddie Betts (Adelaide) — 49
6. Taylor Walker (Adelaide) — 49
8. Tom Hawkins (Geelong) — 48
9. Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide) — 47
10. Charlie Dixon (Port Adelaide) — 46
11. Jeremy Cameron (GWS) — 45

12. Tom Lynch (Gold Coast) — 44
13. Jeff Garlett (Melbourne) — 42
13. Jonathon Patton (GWS) — 42
15. Cale Hooker (Essendon) — 41
15. Toby Greene (GWS) — 41
17. Josh Jenkins (Adelaide) — 40
18. Jack Darling (West Coast) — 39

Teams in bold made the 8.

Simpson and Wright will be replaced soon.

This is why this draft/trade period is crucial for me: we were in so many games this year right until the last minute but we clearly lacked sheer numbers in the middle for rotation. If you add Rockliff, Kennedy, Smith and pick 3, we're now batting 4 players deeper in the midfield.

No longer need to use Matt Wright at the centre bounce, Gibbs can be used more on the outside and closer to goal to hurt teams and Cripps can spend more time resting up forward.

Then the unmeasurable - how many of the kids are going to take the leap into serious A graders? Weitering, Marchbank, SPS, Fisher, Curnow, McKay, Macreadie, Cuningham, Williamson, Pickett all threatening.

This could really, really be a breakout season for us. Obviously not going to win the premiership but Bolts should be looking the playing group in the eye and demanding no less than 8th spot next year...pending the trade period.

Can we get 100 games out of Rocky before he hangs up the boots?

I think if pick 3 is rayner, he. Would have to come in for junior sos. Unfortunate but probably true

I can't see a problem as there are 3 Carlton players featuring on this list already.

P Cripps going nowhere. End of story.

Incredible to learn that scoring more than the opposition wins matches.

How come North didn't make the finals when they seemingly have the same strategy as Sydney? Why were Melbourne closer to the 8??
