Don't have any stats to back this, but hasn't SOS chased EVERY potential free agent / big fish in the last 2 years? If yes, then why does anyone think he'll act any different later this year ....

If anything, SOS is more likely to trade out high picks henceforth, given recent statements by the Club

So, after reading through the last few pages, i get the impression you are on the fence about Gaff.

Won't be devastated if we don't get him. But we would be silly not to put an offer in and see what shakes out. I think he is one of the "type" of pieces we are missing. Lets assume for one minute with our first pick end of this year, we pick up another inside mid (which I strongly suspect is where we will land that pick), getting a "Gaff" type, allows shuey/LOB/Willo/Macs a little more time to learn their craft. Whilst covering a position or skillset we currently lack.

There is going to be knockers on whatever FA/RFA we try for, I'm sure the biggest knock on his games thus far is his defensive question marks, and possibly the ability for him to hit the scoreboard. I think these thing Bolts can iron out and has an extremely high platform to build from, to polish off his game so to speak. From highlights (and I have now watched a few WC games via u tube), courage is not an issue.

Numbers like his do not grow on trees and most of his markers are into that often bandied around term "elite".

This is where I sit on Gaff. Shiel is obviously another one that we would crazy not to have a stab at.

Mullet I think was a reach or pinch hit if you will to prop both the Northen Blues and maybe cover Doc's position in the event The crazy Irishman had another mishap health wise. That DFA pick was a hail mary.

Gaff doesn't excite me at all...but then again do I need every player on the team to excite me...no.
I find him meh....vanilla...
As long as we get him at a respectable price then I'm all for it as he will bring some class and experience to our team which we shouldn't dismiss.

See, I'd prefer us using the Gaff bidding war to make it harder for the St Kildas of the world to make a play for Shiel, because make no mistake they will come for him hard. He's everything they need to make that team a contender.

What I would find ideal would be to bid up Gaff, then make a play for Shiel then Petracca. Shiel is a free agent, and Petracca in 2020. I'd also have been making inquiries as to how comfortable Whitfield is in Sydney, and whether or not Fasolo's on the edge of getting delisted.

We don't need the keys so much right now. What we need, more than anything else, is depth forward of the ball and through the midfield. We can give the talls we've got some time now to demonstrate if they've got it or not.
I really don't share the optimism with St Kilda. I don't think they are anywhere near it.

I understand they have as much if not more cap space then us, but surely we'd be a better choice of destination if the money is close.

Lack of star power is what kills the Saints at present. There were also a few missteps in the vital period of drafting (McCartin over Petracca, Billings over Bont etc). They've managed to bring in Steele for a bargain, and Carlisle, but are missing that Dusty/ Buddy/ Danger type of elite matchwinner.

Their list rebuild has stagnated as a result.

Melbourne have done much better with recent drafting (Oliver, Petracca, Hogan, Gawn) and free agency/ trades (Lever). Their list is in excellent shape and on the rise. I see them being a pretty sought after club for potential free agent looking to move clubs.

We're around a year or two behind them, and are in a much more attractive space that the Saints for free agency.

Do Melbourne have the cash we will?

Had to pay Hogan big to keep him out of WA plus Lever on good coin. Gawn a free agent with get paid his full whack, plus they have a host of guys that they will need to pay. Oliver, Petraccas etc

Kruezer be ok for round 1 mate ?
No hope of getting any decent info from the club re injuries and still unsure about SPS , Williamson , Garlett and Lang .
Very frustrating and if the club is serious about engaging with the supporter base and converting them into members this should be addressed .
Kruez has a decent amount of swelling of his ankle. He thinks he will be ok to go.
And knowing him like i do he should be ok. After all he played the full year before last without being able to feel his foot.

Not so sure we definitely need another KPF, to improve our scoring prowess.(Even though I would take a tall over a mid, if ranked similar) Purely needs basis, I would target goal kicking mids
A very special tall like Lukosius or either of the King Bros, would create more opportunities and reactivate our stagnate forward line, we need a mobile, intelligent play maker, ggod footy IQ is vital.
Our smaller talented players will soon flourish and kick more goals, we have plenty of gifted smalls.

Our conversion from forward 50 entries isn't that poor. We need more quality entries.

As for Lukosius, I don't need convincing

Come 2020 there's a fair chance Murphy will be closing in on the end of his career. Id like to see him spend much more time forward this year and next to help him become a more dangerous forward when the time is right.

Gaff this year and Shiel the next, along with keeping our first pick in each draft should be priority. Hopefully there's some truth to the rumours...

I think a midfield group of Cripps, Kennedy, Dow, SPS, Shiel, Gaff, Fisher, O'Brien, possibly Rankine and another top 10 goal kicking mid would be a formidable group.

Im licking my lips just from looking at that group. Me likey!

Coin isnt the only factor. They're an attractive club on the rise. They're as good a destination club as any.

When we also demonstrtate we're on the rise, we'll have that factor going for us as well. Plus a lot of coin. Plus much more media opportunities (and marketing cash) available to players due to being a larger club, and with the advantage of wealthier benefactors (better kickbacks).

We got the foundation right. Now its about moving into stage 2 of the rebuild, to get the list (and club) in shape for 2020.

Jack is a marginally better player than Ben.
Ben also has a shit attitude.

Source: Ben’s teammate.

Maybe not the thing some of you want to hear but I feel like others might want to know.
I posted something similar a little while back from a similar source unfortunately
