What is with the Gaff haters ... he is probably the best outside mid in the comp.
I am not denying his quality but i think we are not going to be much of a chance to land a big name FA type at the end of this year.

However, end of 2019 and a finish in or near the eight would certainly strengthen our 'destination club' status. Doesnt hurt that Shiel was a Carlton supporter (i wonder how true this is ) and looking to get out of GWS so him at Carlton in 2020 would be great timing and a real possibility.

Anyone who doesn't think gaff would be am awesome addition to our team is kidding themselves!!

Our experience will take a hit as well with simmo, Rowe, asos and thomas retiring possibly this year and even Murphy getting on now.

Am I the only one worried that Shiel, like Judd, will be cooked by the time he's 30? I don't see him having a long career with us. Also 2 years is long time in footy and so much will change by then.

He would be an addition, not sure it is at the awesome level though. Sheil or Lynch types would be awesome, Gaff would be ok.

Blackburn United EPL ... sorta
Add Doc, Gaff, Sheil 2x top 10 picks, BOSOS to our already undefeated JLT team and it's impossible not to win the flag in 2020

Murph and Kreuzer need to be frozen though

See there is an issue we have not tackled yet .... is TDK big Krooz's replacement? Not that it would a like for like swap but .... Is that the piture Bolts is seeing?

Hasn't a team only matched once since its inception?
Bear in mind, the communication between clubs would inhibit things like this from occurring. It'd only be when the information received was wrong - ie that a club won't match if x amount is offered - or if communication has broken down that two clubs will fight over a player in this way.

See the Dangerfield trade. Adelaide knew that, regardless of what they'd get via compensation, it'd be insufficient; Geelong knew that anything they'd offer Danger would get matched to drive up compo to the point Adelaide were happy. This kept the two clubs talking in order to seek a middle ground, which is what will happen when a restricted FA is up for grabs.

Although, Crows were able to match what little the Cats had to offer.

Cats knew it, hence the deal

Shiel would play the same role as Cripps and Kennedy. Would cost a lot.

Kennedy probably made up his mind to leave GWS because of Shiel in their side along with Hopper.

List-balance wise doesn't make sense. 3 inside mids - none fast either.

I know he is good but not sure we should take him.

Edit: If Cripps went fwd then might make sense.

Yes, but equally Adelaide didn't want to forcefully keep a player that didn't want to be there.

Both sides knew a trade was inevitable. They just found a middle ground that was more than Adelaide would have got as compo but less than what Geelong would have paid for Dangerfield's market value.

Quite an elegant solution to what could have been a really messy situation.

Shiel is quick and his outside game is dynamite.

Both sides knew a trade was inevitable. They just found a middle ground that was palatable to both sides.

I think it was a decent result for what could have been a really messy situation.

Well they sure ****** us around with Gibbsy. Palatable ... middle ground .... the tainted water they drink from the murray has scrambled their ******* addled little peanut brains over there.
