See this is why I'm a little more bullish than some others this year, yes I understand the team is bloody young, yes I know we have unproven talent, however to be in that many games towards to pointy end .......

Everyone is saying Gibbs is a big out (which he is no doubt) ... Well we didn't have CC from R14 on or Crippa from R17 on ..... Our youngens were horribly exposed late last year ....

But, I see that as a good thing and it should repay this year, because those young players got opportunities last year they probably would not have got otherwise.
I don't think Gibbs will be as big a loss as some are predicting. We have brought in Kennedy as a replacement and whilst he may not have the same level of finesse, he is certainly going to be more robust in the clinches than Gibbs ever was.

There will be natural improvement from last year, the players are one-year older, one-year fitter & one-year more physically developed, not saying this will result in extra wins but I'm quite certain there will not be any blowouts this season.

2019 and the switch will be flicked properly !!!

Gibbs had become one of our best "big moment" players even though we didn't have as many as we should.

You might not notice he's gone but he'll certainly be missed.
great that we can continue using him as a whipping boy for leaving! the gibbs that keeps on gibbing..........

Very true, however people seemed to not recognise (not sure why) the fact he was a pretty good inside mid, that was hugely durable, and had a bloody good tank (averaged 85% TIG).

We have got to replace a 26 possession, 6 tackle, 5 clearance player this year.

Can Kennedy do this? ... maybe, but I would err on the no for this season. Having a fully fit Ed and Crippa will help to cover though. And of course, another year into SPS (last year).

If we can get a little swagger on this year ... I'll say it again, we will surprise the hell out of teams this year.

This is not the CFC of the last 20 years. Even in the JLT, the new guys showed pluck, character if you will. Resilience.

I think he's a loss in terms of short term results. His last 2 years have been very very good. However, the decision and deal was right and it will now allow the kids more games time and quicker development. By the end of the year I expect Kennedy SPS Charlie & Fisher to be full time AFL standard midfielders. Dow O'Brien Polson won't be far behind

Kennedy + Fisher's addition/improvement on last year should cover most of that.

I'd guess that the combination of Kennedy's addition (direct replacement for Gibbs) plus natural improvement of Fish and SPS would come close to covering all of that. Reckon there should also improvement in contested possessions and clearances.

That's before you factor in Cripps and Ed missing a huge chunk of last year, so we get them back. Cripps has just had his first preseason so hoping he can improve on his 2016 numbers which were noticeably better than his 2017 stats.

Factor all that in and we should have Gibbs covered comfortably. Almost an unrecognisable midfield compared to how we finished 2017.
