Fair enough. That's your opinion and you've clearly made your mind up.

It's not worth argunig the point anyway because it's so unlikely to happen. I just don't buy into SOS paying overs for a player they don't need, like Gaff or McGovern.
The season hasn't even started and it's only a rumour.

I'm sure we will hear heaps more leading up to the trade period as we normally do.

Most rumours don't eventuate, hence being rumours.

To be fair, it is part of their kulcha and a lot of them do it.

Luckily for them the umpires think they are Darlings and pay the fees the crowd picks out for them.
You are right a lot of them do it , ducking that is. Shuey seems to be one of the more prevalent.

Nope rethink and try again.

You need to keep injecting 17-18yo through the draft and top up on UFA not RFA ...... If its a RFA ... you wanna make sure its BEST fit (ie match winner or at least the missing link).

Keeps the list ticking over from the base we have built. (20-23 yo age bracket)

Do this smartly and we should sell the secret to all and sundry for a price .... lol
That's literally what he said.

We don't do that here.

Nice Bluemour!!

Gaff seems the most likely to me and could be done in a way so as not to cost us a draft pick as he is a RFA after all and Eagles could match.

Hypothetically
  • Eagles miss the 8, which is most likely given their midfield
  • No first rounder in 2018 supposed "super draft"
  • No-one likely to trade a pick in the top 10 for Gaff in this draft
  • Eagles likely to match an offer that only generates band 2 compo
  • We heavily frontload the first 2 years of a 4 year contract - I recall reading recently that the AFL only look at the first 2 years when deciding free agent compo - E.g (something like) $800k / $700k / $250k x 2 = $2m over 4 years - pretty reasonable for an AA winger
  • We get Eagles back into the top 10 - they're happy
  • We keep our 1st rounder - we're happy
Trick now is to get Gaff to nominate as as no doubt those clubs with Salary Cap space will try similar type thing!!

Sandilands & Mundy. I think you can safely bet that Gaff is the one being referred to in this instance.

Just mentioning the other option SOAP.

I haven't looked at the FA's available at other Clubs this year.

Edit: Just checked

West Coast FA's:-
Andrew Gaff
Shannon Hurn
Scott Lycett
Jeremy McGovern

Freo FA's:-
David Mundy
Aaron Sandilands

Cripps, Kennedy, E. Curnow, Murphy, Petrevski-Seton as our starting 5. Dow, Fisher, Cuningham, Lang as rotational midfield players with O'Brien, Kerridge, Polson, Graham, Shaw as depth.

First thing that pops out is how young that group is, which is exciting, although lacks experience. Second, is how great it would be to add a few outside mids that are quality. Gaff fits the bill and I wouldn't mind us going for him at all.

Damaging outside player with ball in hand. Those who watch him consistently enough though, my main issue is whether he runs back to defend often enough as a winger? Our system, which focuses on team oriented set ups, relies a lot on our midfielders working back without the ball to become part of the defensive unit. If he is good at doing this, then I am all for it at the right price. I know he is a good accumulator of the ball and is damaging with ball in hand, would say that would be the main reason we would be interested recruiting him, as we are still needing to improve outside run.

Personally, have a dip at Lynch and see what happens. If not, save our money for another season and do what we have been doing one more time this upcoming trade period with the young talented out-of-contract players. Then go for these top tier players, e.g. Shiel's and Kelly's, that will be the big ticket items when we are about to take the next step forward again - which will be middle to end of the 2019 season I feel.

Very good analysis. Would be a great way of eagles getting back into the first round.

Doubt McGovern would leave WA

Has anyone considered it maybe someone other than Gaff or McGovern, say a Lycett? A 26 year old (start of next year) Ruck/Forward wouldn't go astray and fits the age profile
I really hope we wouldn't be going for more back up rucks at this stage, I can see another young developing ruck but not another back up with lobbe and Phillips already there.
