Question...

If we targeted McGovern and put Weitering up for trade with the idea of getting 2 picks in the top 15 eg. Pick 5 and 12. Would people be happy?

Im not for this idea. Nor do i think we would.
Thoughts?

It would depend on what $ Weitering was wanting and how popular he was amongst the group. If we knew Weitering was expecting a million dollar pay day in the future and he wasn't a popular team member then yes. Otherwise no.

To get a good quality midfielder without using a draft pick would be a good strategy.

Still think another 3 quality midfielders would complement our exciting young talls (who are reasonably agile)

A Gaff for free in terms of draft pick & another early draft midfielder this year & maybe a A grader like Shiel the following year is not too hard to imagine as SOS has already done the hard work.

2 free agents in 2 years may seem expensive but you can imagine that SOS has already been front loading some of the young stars which won't put noses out of joint down the track.

Get Gaff... I suspect we would actually need to pursue him or a similar type to even fill our min salary payments next year
Is that 95% of our salary cap ? What would that translate to in dollars (i am not sure what our salary cap figure is these days ).

I really hope we wouldn't be going for more back up rucks at this stage, I can see another young developing ruck but not another back up with lobbe and Phillips already there.
I agree with that, but given you are in WA and may have seen him more than others, would you say he is a better forward than Lobbe and Phillips? I do rate Lycett as a forward, but given the talls we have, plus BSOS, really can't see him as a need

Personally, i have a lot time for Phillips, hoping he can stay injury free

Damaging outside player with ball in hand. Those who watch him consistently enough though, my main issue is whether he runs back to defend often enough as a winger? Our system, which focuses on team oriented set ups, relies a lot on our midfielders working back without the ball to become part of the defensive unit. If he is good at doing this, then I am all for it at the right price. I know he is a good accumulator of the ball and is damaging with ball in hand, would say that would be the main reason we would be interested recruiting him, as we are still needing to improve outside run.
I always look for midfielders to have about a third rebound 50s and two thirds inside 50s bearing in mind inside 50s are far easier to get for a midfielder as the ball is being carried by them as opposed to providing a defensive 50 option and being used.

Gaff is 37% rebound 50s and 63% inside 50s. Reckon thats a good mix without looking at other mids, especially as he is a winger and not directly at the defensive stoppages.
