It's not that they don't miss at the draft it's that they have all the right systems in place to develop every one of their recruits

Whether at Box Hill or just through their training and high performance they bring players on consistently and effectively

We on the other hand are still unable to get this sh!t right

I honestly thought by now we would be seeing some steady improvement in these areas. Too many players arrive at our joint and leave having not improved or more worryingly become worse
It's easy to forget the players that might not have come on at the Hawks, given the flags and on going success, but they had their fair share of misses or guys that haven't really come on, through development

2010 Draft 38 Hallahan, 55 Litherland
2011 Draft 38 Kelly, 53 Woodward
2012 Draft 28 O'Brien, 66 Brand
2013 Draft - 24 Hartung, 38 Garlett
2014 Trade O'Rourke (effectively pick 19)
2015 Draft 22 Lovell

They did really well from FA's and with a guy like Lake, but missed with Vickery. They also gave up substantial draft picks for Mitchell and O'Meara, rolling the dice on flags, yet the end is near for some of their better experienced players

We haven't been able to get it right in the past and while it is too early to judge what we have done over the last 3 years, it seems that the players we have drafted are well on the way

Remember also though that Hawthorns side was built around an initial core of A-Grade talent - Hodge, Franklin, Roughead, Lewis and Mitchell.

At least we can say we will have a good core of A-grade talent - Cripps, Curnow,Dow and I'm going to throw in Harry and Docherty.

One of the 27 footy shows is saying Ratts off to the Saints.

Will that have any bearing on it??
No, that's a more senior role for Ratts and he isn't being looked at as a successor anyway. I think he was being moved on at the end of the year anyway

Hearing anything about Shiel/Essendon?
I don't know anything about Essendon. I wouldn't expect any reliable information about Shiel until Giants are out of the finals at the very least

Bloody ripper. Hope he brings Gaff with him, then Shiel decides he wants to come.

Key word: lately

When were Thorp and Dowler? 2006?
Hawthorn built their dynasty off the 2004 draft
Roughy pick 2
Buddy pick 5
Lewis pick 7
Clinton young pick 18 rookie draft
2005 draft
Pick 3 Ellis....fail
Pick 6 Dowler...fail
Pick 14 Birchall...tick
Pick 18...Bailey...fail
Pick 22...Muston...fail
Pick 38 Travis Tuck...fail
2006 Draft
Pick 6 Mitch Thorp...fail
Pick 24 Renouf...fail ( did play in a flag though but only 68 games so fail)
Pick 33 Morton....fail
Pick 40 Kennedy...fail ( only played 13 games for the hawks)

So my point is they had a great 2004 draft and picked a couple of gems later like Rioli. On the back of one great draft they got success and they attracted big name players. But their drafting has been ordinary otherwise.

Test Cricket will always be my #1, I just worry how we'll go this Summer against India without Smith and Warner
Im a traditionalist, it’ll always be my No.1 as well. The fact I don’t look forward to it like I used to, that first ball at the Gabba, the lead up games, everything about it, just annoys me.

I just think the quality of the game worldwide is at an all time low. I’m also petrified of what we might dish up against India.
