Haha... oh yeah. I forgot he was apart off the Lions deal. Okay, scrap him for Broomhead or Grundy
Given that we were getting rid of Robinson, we could of engineered a deal to get Crisp in return because at that stage (the end of 2014), he still hadn't done much up at Brisbane and only just come off their rookie list .

Taking a public stand against Mitch and Jeff meant a trade wasn't on the cards.

Wouldn't O'Meara also want something in the vicinity of 700 - 750 K per season? Would be financially irresponsible of the club (especially one in full rebuild mode) to pay that.

Frankly I think we should wait and bide our time till Jesse Hogan or a Jezza Cameron type power forward is out of contract, O'Meara is simply a luxury we can't afford (or need tbh) at this point in time.
The $ are not the issue while we are rebuilding.

It is what picks/players we have to give up to get him.

ShanDog is spot on - build our list now and top up with FA's in a few years time.

We shot ourselves in the foot with both of them, learnt a valuable lesson from that episode (although I was thinking the tactic may have worked in our favour, sadly I was wrong on that).
To borrow a phrase from people younger than me: "lol whut?"

How have we shot ourselves in the foot? Jeffy has confirmed he is a one dimensional, erratic player. Mitch would make us a bit better this year but we haven't lost anyhting in the long term.

Plus, the change in attitude around the club is palpable. THe regime is obviously a big part of that but don't discount the effect that packing off blokes who don't want to commit

I stand by the decision to move on Jeffy and Mitch.

But I lament the manner in which it was done. It cost us appropriate compensation.

You wot m8? He's nearing a 2 goal a game average while playing in the worst teams in the comp, that's almost elite territory for a small forward.

He's had two bad runs of form that have lasted for a few weeks, the first in the middle of 2012, and then in 2014 when Mick was freezing him out in favour of a forward line of Liam Jones and some empty pie wrappers.

What are his forward pressure and assist numbers like?

Tackles were up, assists down, disposals down, marks down, 1%ers down, clangers up, I50s down; reads like a bloke who is playing as a release option rather than someone who creates and scores ala Betts.

Stop making so much sense ferrisb

Hawks (and some other clubs) have managed to move players on they don't want and still get reasonable compensation.

The point still gets made to the remaining players but without the "grandstanding"!!

We shopped Robinson around, and got no takers, he clearly was damaged goods, his trade worth was pretty much zilch.

Indiscretions by players always cost a club true value (or draft positioning). Charlie Curnow is also a prime example. It swings in roundabouts.

I'll take CC over those two pea hearts any day of the week...

Did Hawthorn get Appropriate compensation for Buddy Franklin ? I don't think so, but they didn't sit around and moan about it, they became proactive, kept hitting the draft and brought in James Frawley, who had a bloody impressive finals series.

The main issue/bug bear of mine is how lop sided the Free Agency compensation is, it really pisses me off we got nothing for Eddie Betts (signing Daisy shouldn't have cancelled the FA compo out) and Waite and Melbourne cashed in big-time on overrated underachievers like Tom Scully and got way overs for Frawley.

Anyhow we got 'overs' for Henderson and Menzel (in the end) in the last trade period, and I'm very comfortable where our club's list is.

Had lunch with an old colleague of mine yesterday who happens to be Matty Knights' cousin.

1. Henderson is apparently seriously flying (hate him more now)
2. Matty and his wife really happy about what has happened to Hird and Essendon.
That first part should not surprise anyone. Henderson checked out at Carlton, his attitude was wrong and he had to go. But he's a quality footballer, he will be the recruit of the year.
