Mitchell has to consider success or getting 60% his worth... Sydney have all but sure duo all their other prime mids extending them for years and good money.. Now toms in his final year and talks starting up... Can't see how they could offer him his worth surely their salary cap would be buldging... Can they give him the 450-550k he'd be worth in the open market? I think if we really want him, there is a small chance he's obtainable, but most likely if he leaves wouldn't put it past hawthorn or Collingwood miraculously coughing up the cash to get him..with Richmond just missing out...

Wasn't he already on $400-450k when he was wallowing in the NEAFL? Would have to be on similar numbers now. I imagine he'd be looking at a base of around $600k on the open market.

The draft (in the Silvagni era) should be our friend .
The likes of Mitchell , Prestia , O'meara etc would cost us dearly trade wise .
To meet our salary cap limits , front load those young players we consider to be the future core of the team and as we near the end of the 66 game rebuild , then prioritize selected FA's and out of contract players .
A sugar hit now might make us feel better in the short term , but the club have set a course and by and large the supporters have bought into it ... we've gotta stay strong and see it through !!

Mitchell would be good and young, can't see it happening... What's the latest on Prestia?

After watching us at the weekend, the midfield is where they pressured us out of it. Need elite support for Cripps moving forward.

It probably will be but only to a point and that's somewhat draft quality dependent.

If we can get a Josh Kennedy & Pendlebury @ #4 & #5 then fine but if the draft returns a Cale Morton & Jarrad Grant @ #4 & #5 ........?????

More to the point, it does depend on the draft.
Good top end talent as in 2015 then fine, but you wouldn't want to be banking your future on a 2003-quality draft.

Agree with both sides there red bull and what you say if prestia was available for our pick 2 or 3 and it was just the 1 first rd pick for him not sure that would do it ? .Would we be better to do something like that with our first pick since I feel , we hope we've nailed this year's draft and bring in a 23 year old super midfielder like prestia . Sometimes better the devil you know as you eluded to about Morton and grant ? Will add I have stated previously that we shouldn't be giving away first Rd picks but I'm starting to waver . All comes down to whether an early 1st Rd pick will do it I suppose .

O'Meara or Mitchell?

Need to spend our mula wisely...
If it was between the two, honestly, I'd be going for Mitchell without a second glance. Would we be looking at similar money? I would imagine so.
Same age, similar games played. Tom doesn't have the injury factor hanging over his head and is posting much better numbers.

Need to hang onto our first pick which will be 1-4. We also need to be brave and find currency in players that won't be around at the next tilt. Must again walk away at the end of this trade period with 4 picks inside the top 30.

If we are afraid to back Silvagni at the draft for fear of landing a Morton/Grant , well we may as well pack it in as a club .
Those with more knowledge of the draft than i , suggest this year's crop is a beauty ...

This years draft appears to be the draft to trade out of the top end with an even talent spread. At the moment.
Things will change throughout the year they always do.
I am however glad we have the finger in the pie.

I'm hearing that feelings are that it's a deeper draft but not necessarily a better one. Not at the top level at least.

Who knows for sure and we'll be somewhat wiser in 6 months time but the point is that you can't rely on draft alone.

Agreed mate ,
It's always a case of mix and match in a list build , but at this stage of our build , the draft has to be the priority .

Our biggest hole at the moment is a KPF, is it worth chasing say a Jack Redpath from the Dogs who sits behind a few players in the pecking order at the Dogs to fill that void while the younger boys develop? That will give us Levi and Jack as big forward targets. I haven't seen a lot of him but what I have seen, he is a strong grab, reliable kick, a wranger and tough. They play us round 1 in the VFL so if anyone goes for a gander let us know your thoughts.

Walker will be gone next year, earlier if his body has had enough, Everitt is not and never will be a KPF/B as he is a free running player suited to a wing. Unless your a Jacob Weitering our young boys will take a couple of years to get going

The interesting part is that there's no 'one way'
Would love to be doing SOS's job right now. He's taken on a lot but it must be exciting.

The synergy has to be right between he and Bolton with no party pulling rank.
Bolton has to get his needs.....SOS has to give him the best rounded-off tools.

It's not all about talent either as it is about getting the right blend of characters, skill-sets, leadership qualities etc etc.
So many pieces to a large puzzle but if you get it right............Immortality :)

Trading out a top 10 pick for a gun mid is fine by me, as long as that player is of an appropriate age. If they are 25 or so, they would be best to avoid unless we are sure they have pleeeeenty of years left and aren't injury prone. Otherwise, a 22-23 year old gun like Prestia is a no brainer if we can get him for simply a pick 4 or something. Ten year gun player that we didn't have the opportunity to ruin in development during our poor recent history. Sounds good.

A deeper draft? I liked most of the first 100 picked last year so that's great news

They usual gauge the depth of the draft by that talent coming out of vic metro.
Last year vic metro was considered weak and therefore the draft was considered weak.
In my opinion the "experts" neglected the quality coming out of vic country.
This year vic country looks just as strong in conjunction with a stronger than last year vic metro.
Therefore deep draft.
