If the AFL want every AFL match to be a contest - then they need to fix the CFC problem - so they should give us an extra First round pick. But I expect Donuts!
And the AFL will be handing Essendon* every possible handup they can give. And they will be thumbing their noses at Carlton yet again.

If we have #2, we must use it IMO, as two mid-late first round picks are a much lesser % chance. And we need Stars. (Compare Weitering to McKay - both potentially very good players but Weitering currently a class above IMO and worth far more to us in building the Brand/Future).
Personally, the guys I have seen in the WA games last year, there are all the underaged 17 year old West Aussies who will be coming through in this years draft who are actually good enough to go first round is going to mean that the guys around picks 10-14 are going to be the same as the guys around picks 2-5. These kids are going to be great.

Also what are peoples thoughts on this.

- Load up on the 2017 draft at the expense of the 2018?

Should we trade out 2018 first for high picks in this years draft.

Serves two purposes (1) banks on us increasing out ladder position dramatically next year and hopefully getting better value than what we would have if we kept it, and (2) tightenning our list profile so that we have more top end talent peaking in the twighlight of the Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer years.

We could have Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Cunningham and 3-5 first round picks from next year running around at 21-22-23 when Murphy is like 32 and Gibbs and Kreuzer closer to 30
I got absolutely zero love on this post..

"Am i so out of touch?

No, its the blues board that are wrong."

Which club would have two top 10 picks and then be prepared to trade them ??

Let's say Essendon finished 14th which gave them #5 and they received #6 as a compo for losing Hooker as a Free Agent, given their position and list, why would they do that trade ?? They need to pick up two quality draftees, not one.

The only way we could get two picks inside the Top 10 is if we hold on to our first pick and then somehow traded players & later picks for another a second one.
Not two in the top ten but GWS have their own, Geelongs and Collingwoods

At this stage that's two in mid teens and one around 6-8

The Mitchell ship has sailed. It would be Judd all over again, we'd have to pay heaps, we need numbers of good individuals and not one star. One star for a handful of potential stars/good players just isn't on.

It would be excellent to get into the top 10 twice, this is how we should be thinking. It would be great to get into the second round a few times too if it's a strong draft.

Go to the draft and leave other clubs stars alone, draft ours. We aren't in a position yet to trade for big names.

Tomlinson, has he done anything to warrant high trading for? A third round pick maybe. Anything higher would be a big call.

I think we'll trade hard again. Trading will come from our best 22. Everitt and Casboult I see as having a bit of trade value. Trading a guy like Gibbs is the wrong way to go about it.

Great, thanks for telling me what I already posted a while back.

Just so you are aware, here is the rumour :

SOS looking at turning our 1st pick (unless its pick 1) into 2 top 10 picks again this year. The depth of this years draft especially at the top end is pretty deep.

Then I feel that we are going to be somewhat restricted in our dealings this year.

Certain players who will be viewed as redundant within the next couple of years will be traded out for best offers. Freo might drop their second round pick on the table for Casboult if they can't do the deal for McCarthy from GWS.

I think that Rocket might try again to get Everitt come the end of the year, and with the way he is playing, I doubt that he would garner more than a second or third round pick.

With the reputed depth of the coming draft, I feel that we should be looking at 2-3 first round picks and a couple of second rounders.

Why would anyone give us a 2nd rounder for Everritt? It will be his 4th club and he isn't even meeting our expectations. It would be pure madness in the style of the much missed Michael Voss.

I doubt we would gain more than a pick upgrade or 4th rounder.

If we don't rate our players and we finished dead last, not sure how we expect other clubs to pay overs to attract them.

Maybe I should clarify.

If we end up with pick 1, 2 or 3, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just have a look at the quality of player we picked up with #1 last year, how much excitement & enthusiasm has he generated for Blues fans ??

However, this does not mean we shouldn't be trying very hard to get more picks inside the Top 10 or at worst, within the first 25-30. We have some currency to trade with (albeit limited) and I'd be hopeful that SOS & Co will use them to maximum effect.

Agree with you about Everitt, if GC want him and we can get a decent deal from them (or with some convoluted horse-trading with other clubs as well) that somehow gets us further inside the Top 30, then goddam go for it. Same applies to players like Jamison, Tuohy, Walker, Gibbs, Casboult, maybe even Graham.

We need to find another Weitering, another Cripps, our own version of Buddy plus a Dan Hannebery or two. Players with genuine skills both sides of the body, genuine leg speed & a professional attitude overall.

It is going to take a couple of years to corral all of this cattle but we should all be positive that it will happen with this new administration (as opposed to previous regimes who left us in limbo for way too long). Some supporters will be gnashing their teeth at the constant player turnover but how else do you build a quality list without trading out or delisting the weaker links ??

All will be forgiven when we are playing finals every year for a decade and win some flags along the way.

Bring it on I say !!!

Absolutley Sheik , a brilliantly skilled mid like 1.Sam Petrevski-Seton or a fwd/ mid like 2.Anisworth will both be AA performers and club champions , too good to miss out on either of theses talents.
They will inspire on the ground and be a great marketing tools for their clubs.
